If a dress doesn’t fit properly why not buy an extra large kite and stick it on the front?

Honestly finding the presentation of the new drop ridiculous , the photography is no longer arty, the theme is crazily taking over, showing clothes is sidelined and the models look very self conscious holding the artefacts .

I find so much in the collection all round unattractive now . I can’t imagine many people are looking for a dark brown sleeveless T shirt , but a black would have been nice!
I got forced in to Zara by a friend yesterday and bought a staggeringly good white skirt for £60 about which I feel needless to say it looks pants with my sludgy t shirts from Toast . Maybe I’m overload sludge now.

ScottishMouse · 02/05/2025 08:23

I saw that brown sleeveless top and also thought it would be useful in black @OftenOrange. My wardrobe used to be about 90% Toast, but most of what I have bought and am wearing most often this year is not Toast, sprinkled with much older Toast pieces.

RockaLock · 02/05/2025 08:36

Tbf dark brown really suits me, it’s one of my best colours, and I will absolutely be buying that vest top! They did a similar one a couple of years ago but it sold out.

But I do appreciate that dark brown is not everyone’s cup of tea.

I’m not seeing too much else that I’m interested in. But I’m thinking that about most shops at the moment. Very uninspiring all around.

I am in complete agreement. I have been struggling to.find nice things in the Toast collection these days!
I do like a couple of dresses but I am finding that the prices are hard to justify!
Strangely been buying a few things from Lucy & Yak. I find there things quirky. I love dungarees and wear them a lot.

Countmeout · 02/05/2025 10:10

I like that dress too @shrinkingthiswinter but maybe as a sale buy as I definitely don’t need a dress.
I suit brown too and it will go with the ogee culottes instead of the white I normally wear.
I have sent for the blue skirt as it looks that lovely blue I like.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/05/2025 10:13

I love both of the maze print cotton popping dress ( but why those colours?)and the tie front panelled check dress.

Dark brown suits me too. I even really like this https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-dresses/products/tie-front-panelled-check-cotton-dress-bright-red-wisteria
despite the raspberry, but it’s cut much too closely at the top front and would show the wrong bits of my arms

Yes this is exactly what I mean- it’s almost designed to show off the bit of arm I want to hide!
Have to say I too love dark brown 🤎

IlovePond · 02/05/2025 12:11

Ooh. I love dark brown but sleeveless in public is not for me until if/when I do something about my upper arms 😿

@Stravaig that’s a great picture! Straw hats leave me cold, but it’s an interesting pattern!

Hello, I am a fellow toast fan. I have just bought a pair of Annie cropped jeans in my actual size and they fit kinda perfectly but I’m worried they’ll stretch. The size below is ok but slightly snug on the waist. What’s been your experience. Do they get looser with wear?

Countmeout · 03/05/2025 06:42

@Carocurls if the only area on the smaller ones that is too tight is the waist I would go for them. The button on the waist is easily moved.
Denim usually gives doesn’t it?

Popplebop · 03/05/2025 07:38

@Carocurlsmy Annie cropped jeans also fit me perfectly and I don’t think they really give much as you wear them. I have had them a few years now!

applecatchers36 · 04/05/2025 09:16

Carocurls agree that Annie jeans don't give so would be tempted to stick with ones fit you best now.

I popped into Dering street shop yesterday around 5 and it was so quiet, a couple of customers. Very small selection of women's wear half shop devoted to menswear. Looked on rails but very struck some linen trousers at £245, just came from a heaving Uniqlo with wide selection of linen dresses for £40, shirts for £25/30. Can't see the justification for the hike in prices. Needless to say got a couple of things from Uniqlo and haven't bought any Toast lately so will mix in my new purchases with older Toast pieces.

IlovePond · 04/05/2025 16:45

Totally agree @applecatchers36 - I understand why - for example - the Uruguayan hand knits are so pricy - but most of their stuff now does not merit the current price tags, imo!

I am a huge fan of Uniqlo. I ended up with two of their last season cord jackets, (one in the sale), and a couple of people have asked if they are from Toast!

OP posts:
PrincessofWells · 04/05/2025 16:51

The Uniqlo cord jacket was great value in the sale at £19.90. I also bought a COS cord jacket on Vinted for £30 or so, also a bargain.

COS have some very nice balloon/barrel leg trousers in a mid weight cotton at around £85 in blue denim colour and in olive, both elasticated waist, which are worth look.

Bimblesalong · 04/05/2025 21:02

@oddandelsewhere I have a navy cotton seasalt jacket too, a real favourite from a couple of years back in the sale. It gets so much wear, usually with a nice brooch or scarf. I have a longer toast jacket in a plum colour also from a sale - two wardrobe stalwarts.

I agree that the price hikes are rather staggering. I’m off to London soon and will be looking in a couple of the shops. Given the number of lovely classic toast (etc) garments I have, it will need to be very special at the prices now being charged. My recent purchase of the navy crinkle skirt has filled the skirt gap in my wardrobe.

Carocurls · 04/05/2025 22:17

i also purchased the navy crinkle skirt @oddandelsewhere. I love it. It’s a lot of skirt on me as I’m petite but I still think it looks great. The gingham one is also lovely and is back in stock for pre order.

Yorkshirelass04 · 05/05/2025 13:45

Of the new drop, I love the maxi gingham dress. It's really on trend. But not for £245!
I can't see myself buying any of the new stuff at full price. Anyone know when summer sale starts?

Yorkshirelass04 · 05/05/2025 13:48

Also out of interest, has anyone here dabbled with Beyond Nine? They aren't as arty as Toast but some of the styles cross over and I'm in love with a recent co ord that I bought there.

shrinkingthiswinter · 05/05/2025 16:11

No, but I’ll have a look now!

ScottishMouse · 05/05/2025 17:03

Has anyone got a Toast shower curtain, and if so, did you get a recall notice? I have one and was looking to buy a second. They are great because they have a liner curtain too and it is a lovely fabric, not the horrible plastic type fabric that many liner curtains are. But I couldn’t see them on the website so googled to see if I could find one on a resale site, and I found this:
www.gov.uk/product-safety-alerts-reports-recalls/product-recall-toast-organic-ticking-stripe-shower-curtain-and-organic-pyjama-stripe-shower-curtain-2502-0126

applecatchers36 · 05/05/2025 17:38

Thanks for the tip about beyond nine Yorkshirelass04 off to have a little gander now..

The lead laced shower curtain recall doesn't sound good Scottishmouse

IlovePond · 05/05/2025 17:53

That’s appalling @ScottishMouse - I think my DSis bought one - I have sent her the link. Does the one you already have contain the lead too?

I haven’t seen anything on the Toast website. Do we think they contacted people who bought them?

I wonder how it came to light in the first place.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in Toast’s quality control/ethical/green credentials 🙈
