@ScottishMouse thank you so much for that helpful information. I have to say that what I normally do in Edinburgh is just park at the back gate of the Botanic Gardens in Arboretum Rd and then take taxis or walk, but I won't have time for that t omorrow. Any info about interesting shops very near Toast would be gratefully received!
The only other shop I usually go to is Ragamuffin on the corner of the High Stre and Saint Mary's St. for Quernstone knitwear but I won't have time for that tomorrow. Probably just as well, I've got four of their cropped cardigans!

ScottishMouse · 27/04/2025 15:09

No problem @oddandelsewhere. My fave shops very near Toast are Edinburgh Mercantile a few doors down from Toast for lovely homeware pieces, Dicks next door to Toast for beautiful clothes, but pick carefully as some prices are insane (lovely brands that they sell that are not extortionate are Harley of Scotland, Labo Art, Vetra, Maison de Soil), Treen on St Stephen St for clothing, Golden Hare on St Stephen St for great books. Enjoy!!

PeonyBlush10 · 27/04/2025 16:12

@oddandelsewhere i had no problem parking right opposite Edinburgh Toast on the same road - lots of pay and display. I found it very easy to park in the New Town generally, all pay and display for a maximum of 4 hours if I remember correctly. Lots of parking wardens patrolling so make sure you keep up to date with payments. Some roads are less expensive than others. The Ringo app is very useful.

ScottishMouse · 28/04/2025 18:35

Hope your visit to Stockbridge was fun @oddandelsewhere.

oddandelsewhere · 29/04/2025 10:31

@ScottishMouse it was fun, but very fleeting! I wanted to try some trousers but they only had large ones left. I have never bought Toast trousers before because of the (mostly) fixed waistbands and I have a horror of tight clothes, however this season I have bought the wide leg twill trousers and love them, they do have an elastic waist. However because of my fears (literally!) I bought large ones and they are really too big. I was hoping to get the very similar cotton/linen ones in medium but they didn't have any left.
They did however say that there will be new things on Thursday! I have arranged to meet a friend in Edinburgh for coffee on Thursday morning.

ScottishMouse · 30/04/2025 12:30

New things appearing online. Including the return of this fabric!!!

@ScottishMouse our favourite 😅

Stravaig · 30/04/2025 13:34

Is that the fabric from the endlessly boomeranging JL dress?

I spy the latest batshit photography gimmick 😆

AmethystMoonShine · 30/04/2025 15:54

Yep, that's definitely the JL boomerang dress fabric 😂

Countmeout · 30/04/2025 16:24

They must have bought an awful lot of that fabric. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes this time. 🤣

ScottishMouse · 30/04/2025 16:40

I had a very tough morning today, and just seeing that pink fabric gave me a chuckle when I needed one.
Not sure there is anything new I love. I will try the vneck linen tank and maybe the sleeveless linen easy dress, but not sure there is anything else I’m drawn to.

Stoic123 · 30/04/2025 18:28

Ha Ha - fantastic to see the Boomerang dress fabric make a return. I think it got down to a really low price at JL (£19?) and they still couldn't shift it.

oddandelsewhere · 30/04/2025 19:33

Disappointingly there isn't anything I would bother going back to have a look at when I'm in Edinburgh tomorrow. I had hoped that one of two of the dresses might have sleeves. I've got lots of lovely old (5 or so years) ones made of lovely fabric and with sleeves, but they're all too big for me now.
On a positive note I bought a really lovely jacket in Seasalt. It's a sort of French workwear jacket in French blue organic cotton and feels like a bargain at £80 or so. I tried it on with OSKA navy barrel leg trousers and it is a very good fit on me,so when the assistant pronounced it 'cute as a button' how could I possibly resist?

faustina · 30/04/2025 19:56

There was a shirt in that fabric too which they couldn't shift either. I saw someone wearing it in real life and it looked quite nice on her!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 01/05/2025 08:21

I was looking forward to a new drop as I didn’t like anything much in the last one, but I can’t see much I like here either. I was also hoping for some more homeware.

Is anyone else getting emails 'Items in your bag have been saved for you'?
I’ve been getting these for the past month or so when there isn’t anything in my bag, they’re always really random things I haven’t even looked at either.

ScottishMouse · 01/05/2025 08:31

I’m going to pop into the Edinburgh store today (might see you there @oddandelsewhere!) as I will be passing. You never know, sometimes things that don’t look great online are much better irl. I’ll report back on anything interesting.
I was also hoping for homeward @Theteapotsbrokenspout, I haven’t bought any homeward in ages, nothing has appealed.

oddandelsewhere · 01/05/2025 08:51

@ScottishMouse you are right about things looking better in the flesh. Perhaps I should just pop I to see?.....

ScottishMouse · 01/05/2025 09:06

Well if you are going to be nearby @oddandelsewhere, it would be rude not to!

OrangeyLemon · 01/05/2025 12:13

I'm always taken aback by how much nicer the clothes are in real life than in the photos. It's definitely worth popping into a shop if you can!

However I'm not much taken with anything on offer at the moment. Some of the dresses have lovely fabric, but the sleeveless styles are a bit unforgiving on my old arms. I have the sleeveless denim dress which I adore and wear all the time, but the sleeves sit far enough across the shoulder to hide the bit where my arms leave my body, which is the bit I don't like. I love the pretty seersucker dresses but the armholes cut in too much for me.

OrangeyLemon · 01/05/2025 12:20

I love the fabric of the Selmas too, but that shape doesn't flatter me either! I'm the problem, not Toast : )

ScottishMouse · 01/05/2025 12:28

Well, I just had a quick try of a few things and nothing was any good. I looked at, but didn’t try, the new poplin top and the new linen easy dress. What is going on with the seams lately? The exposed seams down the front of both were so badly finished, with the fabric puckering up around them. I tried the new linen gathered waist dress, which was lovely except for the sleeves. They stuck out in such a weird and unflattering way and ruined the whole dress. I also tried the new vneck linen tank, no quality issues to report on that one but the shape was no good for me. Nothing else appealed at all. @oddandelsewhere did you pop in?

ScottishMouse · 01/05/2025 12:28

I also tried a dress from the swap rail, which was too big, but so much better made than anything else I looked at. It was from about 5 years ago if I remember right.

shrinkingthiswinter · 01/05/2025 14:44

Totally agree on the too closely cut armholes. There’s a squashy bit between my bra and my arms that no one needs to see

IlovePond · 01/05/2025 18:13

Ah, that raspberry fabric. How strange to see it again! I remember that I liked the colour but that everything made in it that I tried - dress and shirt - were just impossible on me - everything had been cut so big!

Do we think they are trying again, in the hope that a new set of customers won’t know about it? I hope these versions fit better - it’s a nice colour on me.

I took a chance and wore my sample bargain black/lime linen dress at work yesterday and got several compliments. I was worried it might be a bit flamboyant, but apparently not. I have resolved to make more of an effort to wear my nice things regularly, rather than ‘saving for best’.

I therefore wore my sample bargain linen jacket today over my exchange black linen dress. Unfortunately I was too hot and gently boiled until I got home.

If the weather holds tomorrow, then it’s time for the Pond to make its first spring/summer appearance !
