@ScottishMouse ah I didn’t read your post properly!
I’ll be wearing those trousers for work all summer I think, as they are very loose and the waist is very forgiving I don’t think it will be a problem. Also with the dress as it’s sleeveless and v neck I would think it would be ok as it would be the top half for me that I would be worrying it was too hot. I’d wear a thin linen white tee underneath, the one toast does.

shame about the other minako trousers, I was about to blow out on 2 pairs but I can imagine what you mean about the linen not falling the same. I found the cashmere ones on Vinted - was very pleased!

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 09:29

Maybe you should still try them @Snowyowl78 , don’t take my word for it. I also didn’t love the colours of the linen ones, I might have given them a more considered try if I had.
I also really like the look of the crinkle trousers. How do you find the waist, some reviews say it is bulky?

Snowyowl78 · 15/04/2025 09:35

@ScottishMouse the reviews say much the same to be honest, but I might try them. They are a bit bulky, they may not be the most flattering really but I don’t care. As they have quite a thick elastic waist band, paired with 2 substantial pockets it makes for quite a bit of fabric. I wear them with untucked tops though so not really an issue on which to sacrifice comfort.

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 09:46

@Snowyowl78 another question about the crinkle trousers if you don’t mind - what is the length like? Say compared to the Minako I have to turn the Minako up twice, so think I would have to turn the crinkle ones up too. But I wonder if they would stay turned up or fall down and also would it look nice to see the gingham or would turning them ruin the shape.

Snowyowl78 · 15/04/2025 12:39

@ScottishMouse they look a bit weird turned up I think because the gingham then cuts off the black line and makes my legs look short and stout. It also creates quite a heavy ring around the calves. I don’t think they would stay rolled either. I am surprised that you have to turn up the Minako twice- they are quite cropped on me and I’m 5’3- making me wonder if the Vinted seller had taken them up and not told me but the measurements for the linen version doesn’t make any sense to me. How do toast measure an ‘outside leg’? It is from the waist to the hem?

Snowyowl78 · 15/04/2025 12:45

@ScottishMouse comparing the two, the crinkle are longer by 5cm

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 13:04

Thanks so much @Snowyowl78 i think they are a no for me then based on the measurement and your thoughts. I am 5’2” but my upper body is long and my legs are very short. I loved the era of cropped Toast trousers (even though I still usually had to turn up once or twice!), but am finding them so long these days, which means you often lose the nice shape if you need to shorten them. I think the dresses are getting longer too - I have one that I bought in the January sale that I absolutely cannot wear until I take it up at lease 2-3”!

Snowyowl78 · 15/04/2025 15:23

@ScottishMouse i have to take up most of the dresses, I found a really good tailor who was very committed to preserving the shapes. That was good, while it lasted but now she only does wedding tailoring. Have you tried the Gabis? They are pretty short and would also be able to be rolled up easily without any loss of style or design…

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 15:28

Yes, I have a pair of Gabis @Snowyowl78. They’re a bit small for me now and very tight on my calves (never thought I had enormous calves!). Alix also used to work but I swear they have made them longer recently.

IlovePond · 15/04/2025 16:58

@ScottishMouse - I hope you are feeling a bit better today x

Here in the holiday shed we are renting in Cornwall, it is pouring down and blowing a gale - having got soaked through we have come back in a vain attempt to dry out. I have also realised my ghastly black puffy coat is not really waterproof and that I have not brought enough warm clothes with me 🙀

Despite the red version making me look like a clown, yet again I am drawn to the gingham trousers- I almost tried them on in Bath last week, but I found the staff a bit scary, (and that was even after I had bought something!)

I had a look at the orange Uruguayan knit last week at the outlet - even size XL looked very short - it’s a lovely jumper, but I cannot do short and boxy. I do wish Toast would do a range of jumper/top styles, rather than picking one and sticking to it for years!.(TBF: If the style they stuck with was longer on the hip and less boxy, I’d be happy with them sticking to that!)

I’m driving back via KC this Friday, so I will post some pics of the outlet stuff in case anyone fancies an over the phone long-distance purchase.

Thanks @IlovePond, trying to distract myself a bit.
I’d love to see photos of any quilts/throws they have at KC if you remember. Thanks!

Bimblesalong · 15/04/2025 17:02

@ScottishMouse I am eyeing the crinkle dress too. I may order it to try on along with the v-neck cotton jersey dress, although working out which one to send back from the choice may be a challenge if they both work.

I've just ordered the navy crinkle skirt with patch pockets from one of the London stores. The assistant was lovely and tells me it's on a next day delivery once it's been picked up. This was free but I'll have to pay if I need to return it as it has to go back to a store. It's frustrating that we don't have one nearby but equally, that means that we are not saturated with Toast wearers locally, so the garments do have that extra special feel and look.

IlovePond · 15/04/2025 17:12

I will try to remember @ScottishMouse - they had a nice cream/red brown patchwork quilt last week for about £235 and and a yellow/white floral quilt for £160, (that one has been knocking around for a while), and a green mohair diamond pattern blanket for £65. They also had quite a few of those blue/white stripe ‘ticking’ quilts.

I would be absolutely bankrupt if Toast introduced a petite length on their dresses and trousers. I can get away with the Gabis and some of the linen styles but beyond that I'm restricted to tops (and homewares 😅) which is probably a good thing

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 17:36

Thanks @IlovePond. I’d be interested in the ticking ones, particularly if they had the larger size (I think it came in two sizes if I’m thinking of the same one).

ScottishMouse · 15/04/2025 17:37

Although I have just ordered Merchant & Mills’ new House book, so I should really look at making one myself!

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2025 20:57

I feel like we may have spoken about this in a previous thread, but talk to me about steamers. Handheld, I don’t have space for anything big. Worth it? Pros/cons? How much would you spend? Particular models you would recommend?
Thanks!

Countmeout · 18/04/2025 05:00

I have a steamer @ScottishMouse but never use it. It’s a bit of a faff. I’d rather put up the ironing board.

Did anyone watch grand designs the other night? Some Toast clothing spotting .

Bimblesalong · 18/04/2025 09:11

Must catch that @Countmeout - Toast and architecture, perfect!

@ScottishMouse I have a handheld steamer I bought from Lakeland. It’s ok for the odd thing, particularly where the fabric might be tricky due to seams (eg where I would have to iron over seams through the fabric iyswim). However I mostly use the steam iron. I don’t think it’s as good as the steamers they use in shops to get garments out on the rails, they seem to have a lot more steam going.

My lovely navy crinkle cotton skirt with pockets has arrived. Really impressed as it’s fully lined. However, it will have to go back and I’ll have to size up - chemo has done for my waistline (for now!). Interesting to see that although I wear a medium in their v necked unwaisted dresses I’ll need a large (I think!) in the skirts. Makes me wonder how the black crinkle dress might fit, as well as the v necked jersey. I’ll have to pay postage to send it back as it had to be sourced from a shop - we are nowhere near one. Come on Toast, our nearest city would be ideal!!

shrinkingthiswinter · 18/04/2025 11:16

@Bimblesalong is that this one?

I want it in medium and it sounds like a pain to get hold of. Perhaps I could buy it from you? Will PM.

I have it in large and it’s getting a bit big on me.

Bimblesalong · 18/04/2025 13:37

Thanks for that @shrinkingthiswinter - I’m dithering now! It’s in stock in plenty of the shops still in a medium (you can click from the product page and size. It’s the navy crinkle cotton patch pocket skirt ).

I’m now verging on hanging on to it for a couple of weeks to see how I go - if I do manage to get on my way back to pre chemo weight it should fit and I think it may loosen with wear. It would be quicker for you to order from one of the shops whilst I dither - photo of current stock status attached.
