@Bimblesalong congratulations on your return to work! I hope you’re feeling well.

I have the cotton jersey v neck dress and agree that it is quite fitted. I have the XL and it fitted well when I was a 16 and is just a little loose now I’m more like a 14. But it is still cut annoyingly close around the top, so that without something underneath my bra would show in the armhole. Also the unattractive squashy part between my boob and upper arm is exposed. With a top under (one of the wool tencel turtles) it is a useful versatile dress, though. I hope to have reduced the squashy bit by the summer so I can wear it as a casual summer dress.

@ScottishMouse Not I in Edinburgh sadly ! It was the Islington store , always a pleasure to visit and lovely staff currently .
@Bimblesalong I hope you find some lovely forever pieces, much deserved after the treatment .

OftenOrange · 07/04/2025 15:13

I’m having a week of washing and stashing the first half of my Winter jumpers cleaning out drawers and wardrobes and replenishing mothproofing .
Also forcing myself to wear a part of my clothing which seldom gets worn,Toast tops ; I’m addicted to buying them and love them all but realise the wearing avoidance is to do with hating ironing !
Anyway , here now in the golden Baya top over navy boy T and the usual indigo Annies.

I’d to see/hear what everyone else is sporting this lovely Spring day !

Love that jacket/top @OftenOrange! I’m currently in ancient pjs, which doesn’t count. But the other day, in honour of the sunshine, I did whip out my sample bargain lime/black check dress, with sample sale cotton mint green jumper and the current stock bird napkin as a bandana paired with Toast green socks!

Glad you are on the mend @Bimblesalong

Four days until the sample sale…

@OftenOrange - that shirt is beautiful! I am in gardening mode today so wearing my wax green gabis and a navy t-shirt from Ninety Percent. For my very quick dash to the supermarket I wore an old and well loved Chinti and Parker knitted jacket, also navy, on top, and a brown Kate Sheridan mega tote

ScottishMouse · 07/04/2025 17:10

Love the colour of that shirt @OftenOrange. I am still in my pjs (working from home day), they are Toast but very old.
@IlovePond in a moment of madness I wondered if I could get to the sample sale. I had clearly underestimated quite how far from Edinburgh it is! 🤣

shrinkingthiswinter · 07/04/2025 17:14

That outfit is perfect on you, @OftenOrange!

I’m in my gym kit with the intention of doing today’s core workout at some point. I’ve realized recently that considering how extensive my toast wardrobe has been, I don’t actually get dressed in proper clothes very often.

mizu · 07/04/2025 18:13

@Bimblesalongi have the black v neck dress from last year - it looks the same as this year’s but maybe it was a bit more fittest last year? I wore it a lot with a cardigan for work last spring / summer - the TOAST brown neat wool one looks nice- but got it out this year and it seems slightly smaller 🧐

Sample sale 🤩

OftenOrange · 07/04/2025 20:28

Admiring your industry; @Faustina gardening in great style, @ScottishMouse working at home in chic pjs and @shrinkingthiswintergearing up for a workout.

All of you lucky ones going to the Sample Sale, best of luck , I hope the Toast gods are filling the shelves with gorgeousness, please share !

Just edited to say I didn’t realise that KC was in Shepton Mallet , I used to be in that area periodically and often found bargains in the Mulberry place , it was decades ago and I think Mulberry was the only outlet , now it seems like a much larger centre .

Bimblesalong · 07/04/2025 20:31

Thank you again!

IlovePond · 07/04/2025 22:33

@ScottishMouse - as someone who persuaded her DH to drive back home to London from Yorkshire via Shepton Mallet for the last sample sale, I think coming down from Edinburgh is a very reasonable thing to do 😹 (Having said that, October’s was much smaller than usual and there was nothing left by the time I had trekked southwestwards.)

@OftenOrange - for a few years there were quite a few shops at KC, (but that was before I discovered it). Then the site was repurchased by its original owners - the cider Showerings family. All the leases were ended, apart from Mulberry, Toast and Yves Del Orme, (who left last year), and the cafe. It’s such a shame to see so many of the buildings just lying empty, mouldering away.

@mizu - did you manage to get Friday off?

I will post pics but am expecting it to be extremely busy.

mizu · 08/04/2025 07:47

@IlovePondI’ll be there on Friday and yes I think it’ll be busy too. I’m dressing appropriately - something loose that is easy to get on and off 😁

I think there used to be Margaret Howell at SM too many years ago? It used to be a lovely place to visit and mooch around. I have an old uni friend in Glastonbury and we’d meet there in holidays when the kids were young.

ScottishMouse · 08/04/2025 09:13

Has anyone got the linen shirt or trousers in the oat colour? I’m wondering if it will lose a little of its creamy colour when washed. I have the shirt and have been sitting in it trying to decide whether to keep it the colour is a little too warm/cream but would probably be perfect if it faded a little. Any experience if washing this colour? Thanks.

It’s a lovely space @mizu - I wish they would do something with it properly.

Good luck finding some great things!

AFingerofFudge · 09/04/2025 23:03

Is anyone else really missing the Instagram posts from the different Toast stores? I miss the ideas they gave me on how to wear various things and also the posts about things happening in my local store!

I still don’t understand why they have stopped updating them.

ScottishMouse · 10/04/2025 07:51

I do miss them @AFingerofFudge , but I also think it might be good for my pocket in that I’m not constantly coveting things I hadn’t previously looked at.
I’m expecting delivery of the new chambray short sleeved shirt in white today. It would be a very useful piece for me, but I’m not holding out too much hope as last year’s blue version was not a great fit for me.
I ended up returning the oat linen shirt as the colour just wasn’t quite right for my skin tone. I was a couple of days over the return window, but it let me create a label so I’m hoping that’s ok.

Ecocool · 10/04/2025 08:55

Toast has been brainwashed too it seems. Received email this morning with questionnaire and asked for my "gender identity". FFS. I thought they were above all that horsesh1t.

shrinkingthiswinter · 10/04/2025 09:22

Oh good grief that’s irritating. Way to annoy your almost entirely female customer base

TosstTastic · 10/04/2025 09:41

Gender identity, I feel so alienated by that mostly bollocks.
Particularly sad from Toast who supposedly championing artists, craftsman and skilled production workers.
When buying new clothes for work, the only thing that relevent is will this overall give me sufficient protection and mobility to weld.
When buying clothes for fun, I mostly look for good fabrics, that fit my shape.
My height and shape are the relevant things relevent to clothing, that a biological sex burden. I might want to identify with the low BMI modelthats art but I need to buy clothes for a dumpy 50 something.

Ecocool · 10/04/2025 10:01

I've just emailed them about this. Autoreply saying they will respond. Should be interesting. They've gone way down in my estimation now. I really don't want to support this gender bollox, erasure of women.

faustina · 10/04/2025 12:13

Ah - the questionnaire! A lot of multiple choice questions in it and it seemed as if quite a few of the answer choices had been taken from our thread

Stravaig · 10/04/2025 12:30

Bizarrely no question/answer combination to cover 'customer since the very beginning disgruntled with everything new Toast' :D

ScottishMouse · 10/04/2025 13:51

Just popping on to say that the short sleeved chambray shirt is exactly the same as last year’s version. There is something odd about the cut. It could be a great basic, but it doesn’t hang well and looks awful on me so is going back.
