I ordered the tessellated cardigan which arrived today, and is definitely going back. I don’t like it one bit! I ordered S and M one in each of the two colours. The cream colour does nothing for me. I imagined it would be quite oversized but actually I would want a L if I was keeping. The knit is kind of hard/scratchy though, and the seams are very firm and uncomfortable against the skin. Now I can see why there are not that many reviews considering how long it has been around.
I also ordered the white short sleeve chambray shirt, but it was a pre-order so not expecting it until next week. I’m not overly hopeful though.

Ha ha @Poplinskirt, I meant that there were not enough neutrals for my liking 😆 I suspect there will be a high summer drop beginning of June, this one is quite small. I seem to remember a conversation in store where they said that last year they had gone to a drop every two months but that wasn’t popular, so they are now doing a drop every month but one month it is mainly men’s with a small amount of women’s and the next vice versa.

😁
I think we agree -the colours are not what I would call classic neutrals.
I love a crisp white, blue, khaki and navy for the summer .
Repeating previous years colours of blah pale stripes and the yellowish warm tones
again -ugh

ScottishMouse · 05/04/2025 08:08

Yes @Poplinskirt i wish there were more whites in their T-shirts, and not so many off-whites. It takes a very special off-white to make me look ok.

i’m going to take some returns to store today and have a good mooch about. Wondering about trying this, has anyone tried it and can compare to last year’s vneck version? Does this year’s have splits at the hem? I think it might be too long for me if it doesn’t.

So... I've just ordered the blue check shirt and trousers co ord set, the brown pinafore dress and the brown cord shirt.

Anyone any views on any of those before I eagerly receive them?

Also, there were 2 other things that I wanted including the indigo waistcoat. However they are on pre order and arriving June or July! CUE DISMAY

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 06:58

Which co-ord is that @Yorkshirelass04 ? Is it the slate check that also comes in a dress and shorts? If so, I tried the dress yesterday - love, but wasn’t a great fit on the bust for me - and I have the trousers sitting in my bedroom waiting for a decision. I wanted them to fit like the Minako graph check ones, but somehow they are a bit more pyjama-like and I’m just not sure if I love them enough. The fabric is also a bit coarse, though I imagine it would soften with wear and washing. I saw a shop assistant in Edinburgh wearing the top yesterday and it looked lovely.
Just to also say, they had stock of the preorder waistcoat in Edinburgh, so presumably other stores might have some too. You could ask on the online chat if anywhere has stock in your size in the items you are after and can then call the store and order over the phone and they will post it to you. They usually charge about £5 postage, but I have used this service in the past, it’s a good option if the alternative is waiting until June/july.

MiracleToast · 06/04/2025 08:15

@ScottishMouse how was the knitted tank in slate? Did you try it and how was the sizing?

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 08:25

I did try it @MiracleToast. It was sooooo good, except….too long I think for me. The neckline is lovely, and it fitted slightly loose in my usual size M, but not oversized. I wanted to wear it with trousers and skirts and also maybe over dresses, but for me, I needed it to be about 3 inches shorter to have the right proportions for this. If I was a confident knitter, I might have bought it and tried to unravel the length as it was otherwise perfect, but I think that’s beyond my skills.

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 08:30

i also wanted to try the black cotton jersey easy dress - I have last year’s vneck version which I love in theory but I find a bit too fitted to feel confident in over my bust and belly. They didn’t have the easy version in store though. Has anyone tried it?
After I came home, I also spotted online the black crinkle vneck dress which has a similar vibe. I didn’t spot it in store, but would definitely be interested in trying it (despite my ambivalence to the crinkle fabrics usually). Has anyone tried that one either?

Thank you so much, good to hear it is so good! But a shame too long for you. If it was that nice that it might be worth unravelling I am even more sold 😂 I have two sizes tempting me in my basket.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/04/2025 08:39

@ScottishMouse I was really interested in the knitted tank as I wear the navy v-neck all the time but I had a couple of concerns, I thought the colour might be too similar and also I wondered whether the neckline was too high.

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 09:06

@Theteapotsbrokenspout the colour is very similar to last year’s. Slightly more black, slightly less navy, but in between the two to my eyes. As for the neck, I loved it, but I didn’t love the vneck on me, so 🤷‍♀️ i didn’t think it was too high, but it’s hard to say as some reviews seem to think it is too high. Sorry, not much help on that one.

Thank you for the tip on the waistcoat! I will try that. It looks like it is in stock until you click on the size you want (for me 10) and then it says pre order!

Yes the co ord set is the slate version. I am OK for it to look a bit like PJs 😀 I hope the material is soft enough though.

Yorkshirelass04 · 06/04/2025 09:44

I was also eyeing up the Steve Mono Mary Jane's. Anyone any experience with them? Some are saying the leather is quite stiff.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/04/2025 09:54

Thanks @ScottishMouse I'm probably right to give it a miss then.

Sorry @Yorkshirelass04 I didn’t think to click on the sizes. That’s a long wait, obviously very popular.

Poplinskirt · 06/04/2025 12:27

Ooooh just knit one instead @ScottishMouse 😁

Drops Bomull-Lin is perfect for these type of tops and it's not expensive.
Plenty of knitters on the Toast thread who could assist 😉

Personally I don't mind minor sewing alterations but would draw the line at unravelling a £125 tank

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 12:32

Yes @Poplinskirt i think it was a moment of madness to think about unravelling it. My knitting skills are definitely not up to making one from scratch sadly.

OftenOrange · 06/04/2025 16:57

Stopped by my local Toast to try a dress I’d decided had to be mine. Sadly it didn’t suit me at all and the fabric looked very creased and tired. It was the cpicy coloured checked wrap dress in linen cotton . Therefore I’ve decided to keep the green gingham Franca dress from the sale.

The piece that looks so much better IRL is the pleated skirt in mul mul , very juicy vibrant colours and looks stunning . The shirt in the same fabric also looks lovely and after seeing them online I’d wriien them off, photos are terrible.

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 20:04

You weren’t in the Edinburgh store, were you @OftenOrange ? I saw someone trying those very things when I was there today!

ScottishMouse · 06/04/2025 20:08

And yes, I was there two days in a row! There was some problem with my return yesterday so I wanted to check back that it had gone through ok (apparently it has, though I never got an email 🤷‍♀️). I had another mooch, tried the linen tank again and decided it is definitely too long for me, also tried the black vneck crinkle dress, which was a nice fit but unsure about the fabric (I feel like this season’s crinkle fabric is a bit thinner and with the black you can see the gingham coming through which is a bit odd). I’d like to try the cotton jersey easy dress but unsure if I can be bothered ordering it online as it wasn’t in store.

oddandelsewhere · 07/04/2025 10:11

@Yorkshirelass04 I have that slate check top and I really like it. I've been wearing it nearly every day since I got it. It does go slightly wrinkly when you wash it, (a bit like seersucker) but to me that's good, it makes it feel more substantial. I don't iron it. I haven't got the trousers because I think on me they would definitely look a bit too casual!
I do agree with you @ScottishMouse about the crinkle fabric, I have lots of old crinkle garments where you definitely can't see the lining pattern showing through, and on the newer things you always can. I tried on the indigo dress and really wanted to buy it but I really didn't like the effect of the gingham showing through. The sales assistants tried to persuade me it it was a desirable design feature, but they also tried to persuade me that the unmatched checks on the side seams of the brown and orange deck wrap dress were acceptable so I think I can ignore their advice!
I do think, given the price of the new things, they should be better quality. (Some are very good, but they all ought to be)

Bimblesalong · 07/04/2025 10:34

Morning, toastistas. Has anyone tried the v neck cotton jersey dress and the easy jersey sundress? I also rather like the look of the v neck crinkle cotton dress, although note what @ScottishMouse says.

I hope to return to work next month (self employed) after almost a year off due to cancer treatment. I want to line up a treat once I’m earning again. I’m out of the loop on delivery etc - are delivery and returns usually free over a certain amount? I had hoped to go to one of the shops when I visit London but it looks as if the garments I am interested in may not be available - mail order could be the way for me!

Last year I had a gorgeous giant flower print loose dress and would love it if Toast do something similar this year.

ScottishMouse · 07/04/2025 10:36

Oh I agree @oddandelsewhere, mismatched checks drive me nuts. It doesn’t take much to make sure they line up. And as for the thinner crinkle fabric being a design feature, bah! If I buy a black dress, I want it to be a black dress.

ScottishMouse · 07/04/2025 10:39

@Bimblesalong i have the vneck jersey dress, but I have never actually worn it as I find it a little too fitted for my taste. It is a really great dress though, can look casual or more dressy depending on how it is styled. I should have bought a bigger size though. I want to try the easy version as I think that might be better for me if a bit less fitted. My store didn’t have it, so I am tempted to order and see what it is like.

Bimblesalong · 07/04/2025 12:10

Thankyou. 😀
