A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

@anon2022anon, thanks for posting pictures, you look great in the check coat and the red shoes, I love the way the red from the coat is picked out by the shoes.

It's giving me ideas. I have some red shoes and can never think of what to wear them with, but can see from you that just a little bit of red elsewhere can work.

@Netcam oh thanks!
I read this article last year, after buying some red Mary Janes that weren't getting enough wear, and I found it so helpful. I've bought much more red since! But red is probably the only coloured trainer that would work with my wardrobe. A red ribbed top for layering gets worn lots, and I was on the hunt all year for the perfect red chunky cardigan with no joy (I'd like the sezane one but out of budget).

A pop of red. It's definitely a 'thing' and it's a very easy trend to jump on board with. Here's 6 ways to add it to your outfit.

I love the leopard @Cantonet and @anon2022anon - trying to resist the temptation to buy some more leopard accessories in response to your posts. I think my only leopard print are the trainers I posted - but given I am an Autumn, they go with ALL my outfits.

And welcome @Garlicnorth! While I agree the temptation is real, the benefits for me of this thread are 1) knowing we are all in it together as @Netcam says, 2) the Whering app process of cataloging and pulling together outfits, reminding me of just how many lovely (to me at least!) things I already own and 3) the inspiration from others about potential combinations of what I already own.

Today's outfit - lunch with friends. Yes, I wear this coat a LOT.

@WillaDeWord while I was very tempted by your leopard trainers 😂 I've seen Adidas are planning on releasing some this year, they may go on my 'planned buys' or birthday list, if I manage to curtail my buying for the rest of the year. I love that you're getting so much wear from the coat- that brand is such an investment buy, it's good to know its one worth making.

Thanks, that article made me smile. The last time I wore my red shoes (Mary Janes) was at our office Halloween fancy dress day. I was actually dressed as the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz, in a black dress, stripey black and white tights and my one wear of the year of those shoes!

@Garlicnorth we're not all in expensive clobber. I wear a mixture of H&M/Primark a lot in summer as I like the feel of natural fabrics. My Cashmere comes from Tk Maxx or eBay mainly. One thing I do dislike unfortunately is synthetic knitwear and I can't wear wool.

@Netcam I've counted my Boots & it's 11 pairs. Most are very old & from Duo.
But they're so well made I will keep them forever. My leopard booties are several years old.

Welcome to the new posters. Everyone is welcome & style has no price or age assigned to it. I know I've been in the process of re-discovering myself the last couple of years, after some very tricky times. Part of that process has been sorting out my wardrobe & discovering the Whering App.

Outfit of the day attached. Dog walking in the super warm puffer again. With a bright orange chunky cashmere hat from an American brand that's sadly defunct now - Lita by Ciara. It's amazing quality & was such good value from Tk Maxx.

I've been watching this thread with interest as I really want to cut back on my clothes shopping obsession. I LOVE clothes, always have. I think about them for an unhealthy proportion of my day. I get a high from buying clothes which quickly fades, only to be replicated from buying more clothes. Without blowing my own trumpet I think I'm good at putting clothes together and I get complimented almost daily on my clothes and how I dress. But this makes me buy more clothes!
As I've got older and my salary has increased I gravitate to more expensive brands like Me and Em which is not cheap!
There. I've said it out loud-I have a problem.
The point of my post is to ask if the Whering app is helpful. I've downloaded it but I'm not sure if I can face cataloging all my clothes. It will take weeks! Also not sure I'll have time to add my clothes I wear daily to the app. It seems like just another job to do. Would love to know if it might help me.

ShopMyWardrobe25 · 19/01/2025 14:18

Welcome @Garlicnorth! I absolutely adore both your coats @anon2022anon (like - really adore!!).

I was seduced by the rare appearance of the yellow thing on the sky yesterday and underdressed for what turned out to be a freezing day near the sea. Thought I'd be warm enough with a wool blazer and silk top in Edinburgh in January. Haha. Oh, how I laughed at myself once home and defrosted!

Breakfast with friends today was merino polo neck (with vest!) and Harris tweed blazer that I bought years ago on Harris and just love (not pictured - light awful this end so it's a screen shot of similar) and next satin skirt. Was I indulging watching Traitors last night? Perhaps!

Your chosen outfit looks great on @Netcam !

Hi @sunshinechaser - I downloaded the app a year or so ago and had thought to upload everything. I got bored, it took too much time and I didn't progress.

This year, I'm uploading as I wear and it's far easier. Uploading photos or screenshots is easy and not time consuming. I've got enough in now to plan outfits in advance and as such, I'm relying less on my (old) go to. It really is helping me to wear my wardrobe.

sunshinechaser · 19/01/2025 19:36

@ShopMyWardrobe25 thanks. That's a good idea. I'll do my toe in and give it a try.

Netcam · 20/01/2025 09:33

Warm, basic WFH outfit for today and probably subsequent days this week. All machine washable wool, don't want to create any more hand washing this week.

Icebreaker merino crush pants (kind of cross between leggings and joggers, very warm and comfy). Benetton lambswool jumper, John Lewis cashmere cardigan. Smartwool merino long sleeved top and Icebreaker merino leggings underneath to keep warm (not visible).

I'm shivering on your behalf @ShopMyWardrobe25, though the tweed jacket is beautiful. It was absolutely frigid here.
Cosy soft tones you're wearing there of blue & grey @Netcam.

Meeting friends today & warming up a grey Alpaca jumper with some camel & animal print. I'm a soft Autumn/ soft summer ( seem to be able to wear most tones of either). But I always feel I have to warm up grey a little. Soft fuzzy textures do soften the look somewhat.

I'm back from my ridiculous multitasking, multi centre trip taking most of my wardrobe. I could have done it with less but everything got worn, the majority multiple times. It was good to swap stuff around even if it was only the pop of my gloves on variations of navy blue.
I've made some notes, my yellow Toms were perfect for breakfast or evening meals in hotels or slippers in a home. The navy dress works as a casual throw on but also works for dinner.
Multiple bags allowed me to split stuff for 48 hours or for tasks. And I was warm enough!

What a lovely selection, how fun to share.

Assuming you were driving, so why not if it all fits in the car.

Great you were warm enough too.

I love that dark orange backpack.

Did you have a good time?

Today's outfit. I have enjoyed the multi-tasking, multi-centre updates @TosstTastic! Always good fun to try to puzzle out the maximum no. of combinations from the minimum amount of clothing for a trip.

Today's outfit - and the coat makes another appearance! One of the reasons I like it so much is that it looks just as good open as belted. A bit like a '50s swing coat. Perfect for wearing over a trouser suit or anything extravagantly skirted.

NB I wear the pussy bow blouse with ties undone as opposed to tied up, to try to streamline the look as opposed to adding too much fuss around the neck.

TosstTastic · 21/01/2025 09:58

I had a great time away, and a part of that was travelling by car so I could pack extravagantly.
And like @WillaDeWord with it's neck ties undone, my trusty Cos navy blouse seemed to work again and again. I think it's the smart nonchalance.

My winter stuff is from different shops, jobs and decades and proving hard to boil down to a capsule. I tend not to get bored of clothes and maybe the tougher winter ones have a bit more longevity.
Summer - I bought a far bit last year from one brand, hoping that these will pair together beautifully in a casual 'accidental' way. Just need to head somewhere warm for field testing.

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 21/01/2025 10:17

Another day, another hospital appointment.

The coat was a fab Vinted purchase - it's wool and French Connection and I paid £45.
Trousers were also Vinted.
Blouse Nobody's Child at M&S.
Rieker boots.
Earrings borrowed from a friend.

The blouse is a much brighter green than it looks. I've already had 2 compliments on it this morning.

radiatorcat · 21/01/2025 11:39

Hullo

I think I'd like to join. Nervously. I have no sense of style at all!! 🤪 I've previously used Stylebook and see you're all using Whering. Has anyone used both to compare and comment?

Cantonet · 21/01/2025 12:06

Welcome @radiocat. I'm sure Stylebook will be similar, but I know nothing about it I'm afraid. I can't imagine anything worse than spending time uploading clothes to yet another app though. So I would stick to the one you've got.

@nomoreclothes those earrings are amazing & really look good with the blouse.

I've been sorting through my wardrobe listing items to eBay again & rediscovered 3 Me & Em blouses from the beginning of the retailer. They were too tight for years & i was debating about selling them for the past couple of years. But the quality is excellent and I was reluctant to part with them. So today I'm wearing the wool/viscose pintuck blouse today under yesterday's Alpaca sweater. I normally can't wear any type of wool but this is completely itch free. This is also my first leggings outfit in quite some time.

Today I wore this dress, which is new, but was a ridiculous £8 in the sale. It's not like anything else I own, and I feel a bit like I'm in either Star Trek or Star Wars, but I do like it. Silver trainers, black tights, enormous recycled aluminium earrings.

I'm in! I'm aiming for a low buy 2025.
Also on Whering. Here's my plan for tomorrow.

@Cantonet I think I have that blue scarf, is it Reiss?

I need to get better at planning ahead otherwise it's what is ever nearby at 6:30am! No wonder I have I wear a few things continuously in cycles.

Love that electric blue @SwishMyCape always brings energy to the day.

Princessfluffy · 22/01/2025 06:51

@SqueakyDinosaur love that dress, I see what you mean about it evoking Star Wars/Star Trek! How did you feel while wearing it?
