A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

@radiatorcat I have got 3 wardrobe apps: Stylebook, Whering and Indyx.

I have 150 items now on both Whering and Indyx. Stylebook I'm not really uploading to on the basis that when you upload your own photos it doesn't automatically remove the background for you like the others do. Therefore it's more effort to upload your wardrobe. It looks like there are good features once you have done it though.

Indyx has an option to choose a personal stylist to suggest outfits for you which looks v fun but is extra money of course. I feel like I don't struggle to make outfits so can't justify trying this out. Indyx is also strong on cost per wear and has quite good analytics although I'm on a free trial for these and they cost extra. Indyx is good for being able to look at your entire wardrobe altogether. It's also easy to pin what you wear each day to their calendar.

On Whering I like that it can suggest outfits using AI and I also like that you can create combinations of tops/bottoms/shoes using a rotating carousel.

I'm not sure how long I will stick with using the apps but for now I'm finding it fun.

I'm not sure if I can legitimately stay on this low buy thread as I've had a very bad start to 2025 with 3 deaths in a five day period which I'm still reeling from and I had a retail therapy reaction . I had £500 in my Vinted account from my sales and then spent most of it again on more stuff from Vinted in an emotion driven spree. Am quite disappointed with myself. Probably 50% of what I have bought will be unsuitable and go straight back on Vinted. I'm now trying to use this to motivate me to sell another £500 of stuff from my wardrobe.

@TosstTastic I love your holiday board. Definitely going to have a play with something like that when I go away next month. I’ve also been inspired by people including accessories and coats on their images. I didn’t have them in my app before but have started to add them, I quite enjoy adding a few images at a time to the app. And it’s also made me think about wearing them more. Yesterday I wasn’t feeling inspired clothing-wise so added my leopard print scarf to an all-black outfit and it cheered me up - helped that it was also warm!
The skirt and jumper outfit was for lunch out at the weekend (skirt is my best ever vinted bargain - £2) and with the jeans and cardigan I wore the burgundy trainers which I really liked - they picked up the colour in the fairisle.

Thank you @Princessfluffy for going over the Apps. I took have found it fun for now, its a great distraction. I look forward to hearing more about how you use stuff and how that relates to what you actually wear.

So sorry to hear you've had such a hard start to a New Year. Room for everyone here.

outofideas2 · 22/01/2025 08:51

@Princessfluffy So sorry to hear about your hard start to the year, I too succumb to shopping (and eating) when times are tough.

I've started to upload to Whering and it's going to take a while to upload everything. So far I'm just uploading as I wear but I need to do a weekend of wardrobe sorting and uploading. I think I'm going to be shocked when I see how much I've got!

Princessfluffy · 22/01/2025 08:59

I'm loving seeing how people are laying out their outfit boards!

Mine look pretty messy at the moment so I'm picking up tips.

@SheSawSeaShore love those outfits and also love the one outfit 3 shoes layout

@TosstTastic thank you for your kind words and I also am a fan of your holiday layout - is this a "lookbook"? I haven't got my head around lookbooks yet.

With my own wardrobe, Indyx has made it very apparent that I love a pink blouse and already have more than enough of those, so it's stopped me from considering any more pink blouse purchases. Contrariwise I love coloured trainers and have added some in to my wardrobe that I don't own, experimentally, and can see that they would work great with lots of my existing clothes. Am holding off buying though. Am considering a 10 items out, 1 item in approach.

I'm up to 150 items digitised and it's making me consider which items are actually not worth uploading and just need to go, a process that I am enjoying.

Princessfluffy · 22/01/2025 09:05

@outofideas2 thank you. I'm interested to hear how many items you have to catalogue, I'm up to 150 and haven't done much summer stuff yet.

Has anyone tried the Allison Bornstein method of describing your personal style in three words?

I'll take a look @outofideas2. I did attend an event with Alexandra Fullerton who has a similar approach and it did change the way I thought. She emphasised that you shouldn't buy things just because you love them, make sure they're actually your style. I'm definitely guilty of this.

Yesterday's outfit from Whering.

Cantonet · 22/01/2025 10:03

@princessfluffy you're very on trend with all the pink blouses 🩷 It's one of the major colours coming in for spring. Along with light blue & a lot of suede.
I'm currently trying to fish out items from my wardrobe ( aka storage bags) in those colours.

I found my old ( vintage) suede & sheepskin jackets which now somehow look better on my dds in their 20's ... Dd2 is wearing dh's suede jacket from the 70's !

Anyone else here use the Archive function on the App? I archive my summer clothes in winter, as I do the same in my actual wardrobe - packing items away in storage bags for the following year. I also use it to store clothes I'm ebaying or ones my dds have 'borrowed'.

A blue theme with touches of leopard is what I'm wearing today. I'm loving all the different layouts & colours - so diverse.

Princessfluffy · 22/01/2025 10:32

@Cantonet I had no idea how to use the archive function so that's very interesting.

I love your blue and leopard and might try that out myself, it's not something I would have come up with.

radiatorcat · 22/01/2025 12:52

Thank you for the app overview @Princessfluffy . It's been years since I added anything to Stylebook and I did find it quite hard work getting the background removed. So I might just start again with Whering if this is a popular app.

I did a 'Marie Kondo' on my wardrobe about 7 years ago and the positive benefits lasted a long time. I really need to do it again.

I'm also useless at packing away out of season clothes so it's difficult to see what I have. I want to do this too. What do others use to store clothes in when they're not in the wardrobe.

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 22/01/2025 16:17

Leggings today as I had a scan. Paired with a bright dress to cheer myself up as I'm not feeling great.

The dress is from Oliver Bonas and was a Christmas present from DH. The bag is from vegan brand Matt & Nat. I've got 2 of theirs, really nice styles and the quality is fab.

The earrings were made by a friend who used to do them as a small business. I've had them around 5 years I think.

Off to a fundraising thing this evening, so a casually dressy approach today - aiming for as much warmth as possible (!)

I am also enjoying the blue and leopard combination @Cantonet

I absolutely love this outfit. Especially the dress, but all of it!

Birthday today so decided to wear my pink skirt to celebrate being 55! DH is making dinner and then I'll open my cards and presents and celebrate a bit.

Happy birthday @Netcam , you look fabulous! 🤩

@Princessfluffy so sorry to hear of your losses. Such a tough start to the year x

anon2022anon · 22/01/2025 20:50

A couple of casual day off outfits for yesterday and today. I've never actually worn the gold boots, so forced myself to make a day time outfit with them today. However a fail is that the jeans are new.
Obligatory hat too, it's so cold!

Edit, I've cropped off the boots 🤦🏼‍♀️ they're under the paler jeans!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. For the woman who really doesn't need any more jumpers and bags, a yellow Carrier Company birthday jumper from DH and a birthday (and Xmas combined) Celtic & Co bag from MIL. And some posh birthday olives from DS2.

Are you doing one in one out?

No, because there's nothing I want out!

But I did a big wardrobe clearout of everything I don't wear/need recently so only really have things I want and use.

@anon2022anon I love the denim with cream hat and jacket and red shirt/shoes, great colour combination.

@WillaDeWord what a beautiful coloured moss green dress.

I love colours in an outfit.

@Netcam that sounds great, I'm still trying to get to that place of having only things I love in my wardrobe. It's a fun process.

I'm finding uploading things to Whering/Indyx useful as I'm asking myself is it worth the effort to upload something that I'm not excited to wear or to look at in my digital wardrobe.

WillaDeWord · 23/01/2025 08:03

Happy Birthday @Netcam! The colour combination is gorgeous.

Thanks @Princessfluffy and @DontNeedAnyMoreClothes for the kind words. It is a dress I had forgotten about for a little but perhaps I should wear it more often!

Today's outfit - wearing my glitziest blazer.
