A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Today's outfit - relishing the opportunity to dress down a little.

@Ponks it is indeed from Reiss, probably the same one! I love a good coloured trouser suit for work. I feel professional and comfortable while also avoiding disappearing in the sea of black / navy / grey of my male counterparts.

@ShopMyWardrobe25 you cannot guess how pleased your saying that makes me. I love interesting colour combinations and contrasts on people but am never sure about how to do it on myself. I usually just play it safe with tonal dressing!

I'm attempting today to wear the baby pink trend that's coming in. Although I'm not sure whether mine's more Barbie than baby ( which isn't in at all apparently). The subtleties of it all sometimes escape me ...

@Cantonet think pink looks lovely with the grey

Agree, those colours go well together.

Who knew the subtleties of pink @Cantonet ?!

It's been a wee bit milder here, which allowed me to get out of long sleeves and brave a @WillaDeWord mint and caramel inspired combo.

@ShopMyWardrobe25, love the orange bag picking out the orange bits in what looks like a Celtic & Co jumper.

So, it's my 55th birthday this coming week and next weekend I'm going for a special birthday lunch with my 3 best friends at a posh restaurant.

I don't do that kind of thing very often and I also feel the cold. I don't have to dress up, but I want to! So I think it needs to be a wool sweater dress and a cardigan.

Shopping my wardrobe, these are really my 3 sweater dress options. I've been playing around with the Whering App like a young 54 year old child making outfits this morning.

Outfit 1: Celtic & Co teal geelong wool dress, John Lewis raspberry cashmere cardigan, Jigsaw wool coat, Kiltane cashmere/wool scarf, Arche boots, Falke softmerino tights.

Outfit 2: Moschino pink wool dress, John Lewis raspberry cashmere cardigan, Jigsaw wool coat, Kiltane cashmere/wool scarf, Arche boots, Falke softmerino tights.

Outfit 3: Karen Millen merino dress, John Lewis raspberry cashmere cardigan, Jigsaw wool coat, Seasalt wool/silk scarf, Arche shoes, Falke softmerino tights

Think I might need to have a trying on session today to see what they all look like in real life.

The coat doesn't really matter as I'll be driving and taking it off, but thought I'd add it anyway.

It is indeed a Celtic jumper @Netcam - well spotted!

I'm liking all your outfits but gravitating towards the third. I'd worry about overheating with the roll neck in 1 and feel 3 offers greater colour differentiation than 2 - bringing in the caramel offers 3 distinct colours and they work well together.

The more I'm using the app, the more I am liking it - so much easier to plan rather than look at sides of items hanging in a wardrobe. Which reminds me, I do need to upload more.

Happy Whering and planning (and have a marvellous birthday).

Netcam · 18/01/2025 10:41

@ShopMyWardrobe25, thanks for looking. There's no danger of me overheating in January! I'll try them all on and take some photos.

@ShopMyWardrobe25, in fact the Karen Millen merino dress is the thinnest of them all and I'd worry about being cold, I'd probably wear a thin merino long sleeved top underneath.

OP posts:
ShopMyWardrobe25 · 18/01/2025 10:55

All of my earlier comments made, I love the pink dress most - it's gorgeous @Netcam

WillaDeWord · 18/01/2025 12:42

@Netcam I personally love the first two outfits. I like a more tonal outfit, and as you say, they look a bit warmer.

My outfit today - for lunch and shopping with my mum.

Predictably, I love the mint and camel @ShopMyWardrobe25 - gorgeous!

I have a laura Ashley merino dress with I wear with a heat tech long sleeved underneath, its remarkably warm.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/01/2025 13:03

That teal jumper dress is absolutely gorgeous!

Cantonet · 18/01/2025 13:22

I Iove the first selection @Netcam.
The cohesive colours on the scarf pull everything together beautifully.

@Willadeword the relaxed Friday outfit is just perfect. It's my favourite colour combination of mid blue denim with tan & a touch of leopard.

I'm enjoying the contrast of the orange bag too!

Outfit today for shopping in town. It's freezing here so I'm wearing my warmest brushed Cashmere Cardigan & Dkny fur, plus a bargainous cashmere scarf.

Well, after trying various things on, I've come up with something completely different.

I remembered I wore the pink wool dress last year celebrating my birthday with the same friends.

And I've worn the green jumper dress quite a bit recently. And it comes up above my knees, so I might be cold.

So instead, here's: Hobbs ecru merino cashmere jumper, John Lewis black cashmere cardigan, Kiltane wool cashmere scarf, Falke softmerino tights, Boden fuschia merino skirt, Arche purple boots.

I got these Arche boots in September and haven't worn them yet as they're too nice for everyday wear. So whatever I was choosing had to go with my purple boots.

That's a fab outfit @Netcam.

Netcam · 18/01/2025 17:07

Or maybe this:

Celtic & Co teal geelong wool dress, Dilling black merino cardigan, Falke softmerino tights, Arche purple boots, Kiltane wool cashmere scarf.

Still trying to decide. But now I think I have 2 options. Not going with the pink dress simply because I wore it last year. And wondering how long an ecru jumper will stay that colour if I'm eating.

Thanks, I'm not used to putting things together to get dressed up as I do it so rarely.

I'm going to save the outfits I liked when I tried them on in a category on the Whering up so that next time I need to find an outfit for a similar occasion/season I won't have to try loads of things on again.

Oh the pink skirt outfit is beautiful and eyecatching @Netcam , I vote for that! Is it the type of thing you wear regularly? If not, seize the opportunity!

It's a bit too dressed up for my mainly WFH life and also for my very casual office.

I would wear the separate bits of the outfit but would dress them down a bit, so a simple jumper with the skirt and no scarf. Or the cardigan with trousers and a simple long sleeved top.

I think scarves look pretty but in reality they get in the way and I find them a bit faffy. But for a special occasion I can wear one and try not to dip it in my food!

And generally I'm outside walking and wouldn't want to wear my lovely and very expensive soft suede boots.

Having launched my no-buy 25 with an unplanned purchase of 3 tops from the Roman sale 😏 I thought I'd read this thread for motivation. I must regretfully report that any inspiration I could draw from you lot would result in an exponentially increased clothing spend, as I tried to match the quality of your wardrobe contents!

You all have lovely things and are putting them together with admirable panache. Me, I'm going back to ransacking my disorganised heaps of cheapskate clothing. There's a kind of inverse satisfaction to an "Ooh, haven't I got a .. ? It should go with this!" moment. Nothing like what you're doing, though!

Netcam · 18/01/2025 23:08

@Garlicnorth, welcome! We are all trying hard to ignore the urge to buy something lovely we've seen from each other's wardrobes. It was an unintended side effect that hadn't initially been considered! Let's stay strong together.

While I really would like to take the time to upload my wardrobe to indyx- started last year and abandoned unfortunately!- here are a couple of last week's outfits, from errand days. The heart cardigan is unfortunately where I've faltered this week and is a new addition to the wardrobe- but I love it! As are the cord trousers, a charity shop find. I need to now not buy anything for the rest of January.
Too much of what I'm wearing are recent purchases, even if not this year. This week I'm going to pick out 2-3 things that are older and make a point of wearing them. However, it is progress that the stuff I have bought is getting worn, I can't think of anything right now that's come in within the last few months and is sat unworn, so that's progress. My worst problem is buying a 'bargain' that doesn't get worn.
