A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Whering have now introduced the ability to suggest outfits for other people from their wardrobes! If anyone would like to create an outfit for me I am Cleopatra@cleopatrasf
Share your username if you’d like me to create one for you!

This sounds like great fun. I'll have a look tonight @Princessfluffy and will need to see a photo of what I come up with for you!

anon2022anon · 13/05/2025 06:21

@Cantonet I am definitely smaller on the top, and I've always been a definite pear shape with a generous bum and thighs- my bottom half can sometimes need two sizes bigger than my top half. Interesting thought about the shoulder pads. I shall give it a look, though I'm not sure it's for me- I instinctively stay away from any puff sleeves/ big shoulders/ flounces and frills. I think it's a throw back to spending a life trying to look smaller, I try to minimise the bottom half to go with the top, rather than play up the top to match the bottom and look like I'm an overall bigger person. While it's not something I love about myself, I'm not sure that's something thats ever going to change and not be ingrained in me!

That long denim dress has ended up being a very good sale buy from Next last year and got 4-5 comments from other women when I wore it last week- unheard of! Very flexible in its use, and a lovely soft modal type of denim/ not denim.

Really do like all of those outfits from Bristol for you, the layering of the waistcoat and the vest is interesting, you have 3 completely different looks from 1 jacket, and a maxi skirt is completely the vibe I'm here for this season. Only problem is that you have just strengthened my urge to find the perfect gingham maxi skirt 😁
Interesting that both your skirts are drop waisted, which is everywhere this season- is that something you normally go for?

Cantonet · 13/05/2025 19:47

Not at all @anon2022anon.
I wasn't even aware these skirts had a drop waist.
I just liked the very wide ruched elastic waistbands.
For comfort & as they're more long midi length the ruching means they can be pulled lower down on the hip to be worn as a maxi. I sometimes find long midis easier to wear than maxis day to day.

I love that waistcoat I wore to Bristol. I bought it last year & just adore it over summer dresses or vests. It just seems to make things a little cooler.

I can fully understand about the shoulder pads & not wanting yourself to look bigger. But I don't think frill sleeve tops or slightly puffed sleeves would.
What about these pics attached.
Caveat: I adore this style top & wish I could wear them myself 😉

Yep, I do quite like those, I can cope with a shoulder frill just about but that's as much as I can go.

I think I would say those were drop waist personally, but interesting about wearing them on your waist- I understand exactly what you meanabout getting in the way, wore a maxi skirt yesterday and fell up the stairs 3 times 😂 you might like this red skirt from next, it's quite lovely and good value. I bought it, tried it on at home and immediately returned it as my hips felt very prominent, but it was a lovely skirt.

Wore this dress again today and remembered to take a photo.

Oh that's lovely!

Netcam · 15/05/2025 07:26

@CantonetI really like the black/white check skirt. That kind of waist/hip elastic makes it look like it would hug the hips nicely rather than puff out too much, which isn't a good look on a short person like me.

I also prefer a long midi/short maxi. If it's not petite I find a midi is like a maxi on me anyway. I really like the length of the chartreuse crinkle cotton dress I wore yesterday, but that's a petite. I really don't want something all the way to my ankles.

OP posts:
SqueakyDinosaur · 15/05/2025 08:57

I have the opposite problem, @Netcam - I'm 5'10" and I really like long swishy stuff, but almost everything is too short.

Cantonet · 15/05/2025 20:35

That dress fits you beautifully @Netcam. It's giving you an real hourglass shape & the colour looks great with your skin tone.

The gingham skirt is a really lighweight floaty crinkled material so hangs nicely & isn't too pouffy. I think the wide waistband gives me the illusion of a waist which I don't really have. I've seen it on other people in different sizes & it really seems to flatter everyone.

That's a beautiful red maxi @anon2022anon.
I've actually bought 4 skirts this year having not bought any since before Covid. My latest is a white crinkled cotton midi/maxi from Uniqlo. It's meant to be short but it's still ankle length.

I'm wearing Colour very unusually today!
A coral pink cheesecloth Boho Embroidered Blouse with button fronted lighter wash jeans. My DD said to me when she saw me trying it on' that's very coral, are you sure you will wear it? '

tonybennscat · 16/05/2025 09:35

I love an ankle length skirt too @SqueakyDinosaur, I’m also 5’10.

Packing for a week long trip to the Netherlands today. We’ll mostly be doing art galleries, museums, mooching around shops etc so I’m packing jeans, wide leg trousers, T-shirts, layers etc. Been before at this time of year so I know it can be wet and windy.
I had laid some tops out on the spare room bed, mostly red, green and blue with some stripes. Visiting DS asked if I was going as the Rice Krispie elves! I am having a re-think!

Netcam · 17/05/2025 10:08

@tonybennscat, hope you have a great trip. We're going away soon to visit in laws on the east Yorkshire coast. It always feels like a holiday when we go as we take our micro caravan and have some time with them and some time doing our own thing.

I tried the Whering App packing list, very impressed.

That list looks useful@Netcam. I think I just did a holiday lookbook & posted outfits for inspiration & packing help. As I wasn't quite sure how to utilise the packing list. Is it easy to use?
Have a great holiday @tonybennscat. The Netherlands is so pretty in summer & I love the food.

3 outfits from this week as attached.
I have bought some things but I've also sold about £100 worth of items listed on eBay. I've ordered some lace edged cotton vests ( pure cotton) from Zara. I live in this sort of thing come summer or winter. A white pair of cotton jogger trousers as my white pair from last year is too big & needs to be listed. I've also just ordered the Uniqlo khaki jersey jacket as it's in the sale & I've been eyeing it up for a while. I've been wearing the beige a lot & love the shape & drapiness.

Love the chartreuse (?) dress @Netcam and have been enjoying catching up on all the comments, as well as reading @anon2022anon's eagle eyed assessment of what works for her.

In honour of the PP who liked my previous antique green dress, I wore another, more vibrant green dress this week. And also enjoyed the opportunity to wear some warmer weather clothing. Outfits in pics.

Off to the Med next week to visit family. Packing for 26 degree heat and significant but also for a small town where everyone knows each other and the pressure is therefore on to look chic and soignée at all times.

Hadn't realised there was a Whering packing list function: I shall take a look!

@tonybennscat if you're going to be in Amsterdam for part of the trip, may I recommend the restaurant De Waaghals? It's vegetarian with vegan options, and 5 of us, only one vegetarian, had an absolutely fantastic meal there last year.

Wow, just had a look, that restaurant looks incredible. It looks very much like a place I went to in Amsterdam over 20 years ago, it could be the same restaurant although I don't remember the name. I'm not vegetarian but that is totally my kind of food.

@Cantonet, the packing list was easy to use once I figured out how to start.

Open the planner from the bottom icon, then click the calendar icon in the top right.

Then select a date and you will get a menu pop up. From there select 'Create Event'.

Then you can add your event start and end dates, after which, it will be possible to add items or outfits for each day in the event.

After that select the suitcase icon in the top right of your event and it will create your packing list, which updates if you change the items/outfits on any dates in your event.

Bridlington, which is where DH grew up. We're going to visit his family. We always go out for some lovely coastal walks while we are there.

Cantonet · 18/05/2025 11:57

Very envious of your forthcoming holidays @Netcam& @tonybennscat. Thank you for the tips on using the holiday packing option. The Rice Krispies comment made me laugh.

Woken up at 5.30 by my errant teen coming back from a concert & finding the front door locked. So as I was wide-awake by then I watched Jo Good on the Sheerluxe Channel interviewing Annabel Croft & Jasmine le bon.
It was so interesting listening to them & then I further watched Amanda Wakeley interviewing Jasmine le bon. She's still beautiful & appears very down to earth & unaffected.
I also found a skirt I've had for several years that I bought in the H&M sale that's very of the moment - pale yellow & chloe - esque. It's actually really quite dressy. I have the blue/white version of this & I've worn it for years but only rarely have I worn the yellow.

@Cantonet, lovely yellow skirt. Sorry about being woken up so early, having 2 teens I feel your pain. Although DS1 is at uni at the moment and DS2 busy revising as he has his first A level on Thursday, so it's very quiet round here. He literally pops downstairs for meals or to print and exam paper and disappears to his bedroom again.

Not very summery but my washable wool winter coat finally arrived from Alpine Trek. Very pleased with it and managed to try it on for a few minutes to take photos without boiling. I would say it was an absolute bargain for £130, is lovely thick wool and should keep me very warm in the winter, even without multiple layers underneath.

Found your Whering fluffy I love how colourful your clothes are, I'll see if I can make an outfit when I've got some time to scroll (I'm cathtings on there).

It was me! Looking forward to seeing a photo. I've only added a few things to Whering so far, but aim to get everything on there at some point.
