A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Confession, ordered a navy wool winter coat on my wish list. Had my eye on it all winter as unusually for a wool coat it's hand washable. Been watching the price go down over the months and at 60% off couldn't resist:

Well, that's a bargain... be a crime not to buy it 😂

tonybennscat · 06/05/2025 19:33

Sometimes you just have to! Nice coat.

I am returning the Fitflop sandals I bought myself with birthday money. They looked nice but they weren’t as comfortable as I expected. I may go for a pair of their Gracie sandals (I am eternally grateful to Fitflop for curing my plantar fasciitis five years ago and rarely wear anything else for more than a couple of hours because I’m terrified of it coming back).
Also going back is the Seasalt jumpsuit that didn’t look too bad fit wise but the colour was nothing like the website photo. I often have that problem with them.

SqueakyDinosaur · 06/05/2025 21:15

I'm a bit annoyed because I tried on some trousers that had been too small for ages, as I've lost about 20kg. They fit (and look nice) everywhere except over my stomach because I have an absolutely enormous incisional hernia (24cm long by 8cm wide). It's going to be fixed fairly soon, and I can't wait.

anon2022anon · 07/05/2025 06:40

@tonybennscat which fitflop style do you recommend please? Possible plantar fascitis is a new problem for me too after finally completing couch to 5k - nothing in my arch so far but my heel feels like it's broken.

Cantonet · 07/05/2025 09:02

That's how my pf started @anon2022anon.
Is it more painful in the morning or after rest?
Have you tried stretching exercises?
I wear Oofos - recovery footwear as I had it really badly twice and they were recommended by the specialist. Unfortunately fitflops didn't help for me as they didn't have enough arch support. But they work well for milder P.F.

tonybennscat · 07/05/2025 09:24

Yes, I’ve heard OOFOS are very good. Funnily enough mine started after completing C25K as well so I promptly gave up.

As for Fitflops, I started with the Rally - the silver ones. I now have several pairs of them, also have boots and the Chrissie slippers. I would say start with the slippers because you can get them for around £40 at MandM so it’s not too much money if you don’t get on with them.

anon2022anon · 07/05/2025 15:03

I've never heard of OOFOS, and I've got to say I'm a thin soled sandals girl so I'm not looking forward to fit flops and insoles!

Mumwithbaggage · 07/05/2025 18:50

Oofos are great - even if you wear them around the house. Sorted my pf out.

Netcam · 07/05/2025 19:25

I've had plantar fasciitis but managed to cure myself with a combination of foot exercises, a night split, never going barefoot at home and the right shoes. I only needed the night splint and exercises for several months and this was perhaps 6 or 7 years ago.

My symptoms haven't returned, but I do stick to wearing shoes at home and good shoes for walking.

The best shoes I've found for walking are Hoka Challenger trail running shoes, I have numerous pairs of Hokas in different colours and also have Kaha 2 walking boots, Speedgoat mid and Transport trainers.

I also have various pairs of Finn Comfort shoes and boots and have found the Finnamic ones particularly good. I ordered most of mine from a shop in Germany https://schuherlebnis.de/. I have also bought multiple pairs to try and returned some for refunds with no problems, other than expensive post Brexit customs charges. Most were bought pre Brexit, they are amazing quality and last for years.

I don't think Fitflops are the best, although I have some Fitflop fur lined boots that I wear at home as winter indoor shoes, but I wouldn't wear them out for walking, they are not supportive enough.

My summer indoor shoes are Wolky Rio sandals which I love and have a different pair for outdoors too, although I don't think they make them anymore, but there is a very similar equivalent called Salvia. Luckily I have an unworn pair of the Rios for sometime in the future too.

Here are some pictures of all my PF friendly shoes.

In stark contrast, these are the sandals that I'm waiting to be delivered and now I understand will probably need to be returned 😂

Those sandals are my worst nightmare @anon2022anon. Beautiful but I can feel my achilles tendons twinging as I look at them!

I should say that I do have proper walking shoes and gym trainers other than the Fitflops but day to day I live in them.

Bought a very pretty blue and white printed top in Tu. They had some really nice summery cotton Broderie stuff. I was holding a white cotton skirt when a woman passed and said ‘That’s lovely, you’d have to book yourself a Mediterranean holiday to go with it!’ And spill red wine down it no doubt. I put it back.

Cantonet · 09/05/2025 11:11

I don't mind wearing white, as I'm pretty nifty with the Vanish oxi white stain remover. However I do tend to get turmeric ( like to cook ) on everything but a cold water wash with fairy & sunlight tends to sort that out. Cream is a problem as soaked too long it can turn white in patches. I've just realised my beautiful felted cashmere Jaeger cream cardigan has a turmeric stain on the sleeve 🤔

I also have a white broderie blouse from Tu this year. It's beautiful quality with 3D detailing.

@anon2022anon
Archie's do flip flops/slides with arch support & the soles are much thinner I believe. Though I've never seen them in real life.

I'm another one that wears my Oofos as house shoes. I bought a pair of the mules as winter slippers & wore them with socks. I know they're exceedingly ugly but after 9 months of hobbling around I was so relieved to wear comfy shoes. Though apparently we're not allowed to say 'comfy' any more on style & beauty ....

tonybennscat · 09/05/2025 15:17

Vanish! Doh, that was on my shopping list!

Netcam · 10/05/2025 18:27

First time wearing this chartreuse crinkle cotton (no ironing needed) petite dress I got from the Boden sales at the end of last summer for a bargain £45. With my cream Hokas it was the perfect outfit for a long walk with a good friend in this lovely weather.

Beautiful colour @Netcam , hope you had a lovely walk together.
I'm just about to sit and pick through my outfits of the last week, let me see where I got up to.

tonybennscat · 12/05/2025 07:03

Lovely colour. It’s one I used to love to wear but now I’ve embraced the grey, I just can’t wear it. I put a lovely chartreuse silk and cotton top in the charity bag this week after it had lurked in the ironing basket for two years.

anon2022anon · 12/05/2025 08:16

I've been making an effort to keep track of a few outfits this week, here are some winners for me (all fairly casual)

And another casual one I liked, though the trainers got a few 'retro' comments

And then two I'm going to pick apart.
The first work outfit I liked the jumper, shoes and bag, I liked the pattern on the skirt (navy with a small white polka dot) and I got complements on the skirt. But every time I walked past the mirror I couldn't get over the length, I didn't like where it finished on my calf, so it's in the wash ready to move to Vinted. I think I'll recreate this outfit with a maxi, and if I can find a polka dot maxi skirt all the better.

The second is a lovely new (second hand) top, the brand is Greek Archaic Kori, and the material and embroidery is stunning. I love most of the things they do. I love the top. But I'm not sure if I can get over how the length and the embroidery put the focus on my hips and makes them look larger- that's them largest area of my body, and I normally dress to play it down.
I'm going to try the top on with a bottom that's a bit more fitted I think, and see if I can rescue it, because right now I'm looking at the picture and I don't feel like I look nice (I appreciate that's a me problem!).

Is anyone else finding this exercise very good at pinpointing why things are/ aren't working for them? It's probably doing me wonders with all the stuff that I'm on the fence with in my wardrobe.

I wear those types of blouses @anon2022anontoo.
It's a very pretty blouse.
I always do a front tuck to give some waist definition & wear them with jeans like straight leg or barrel. I'm only 5 ft 3 though.
I think you've got a petite top half and as these tops tend to hang off shoulders utilising some shoulder pads will help. You can buy ones that fit under bra straps.
You would suit any tops with shoulder frills or puffed sleeves. I look like a lineback in those due to my swimmers shoulders.
I love your denim dress pictured.

Beautiful dress @Netcam.
I love that colour & the crinkled fabric is a real bonus.

I've just been to Bristol for the weekend. To watch my eldest run the marathon. It's been beautiful weather & was so warm & sunny for the actual race. So these are the outfits I wore & took with me. I didn't need a jacket until this morning.
