No/low buy 2025 shop from wardrobe

A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Todays outfit of choice is a pair of light wash jeans, nike trainers (court vision with leopard print), and a white linen blouse from H&M.

not great for the weather in central London. But I’m travelling home to jersey this afternoon and my case is packed up with everything else. I typically wear heaviest items on the plane.

I’ve been here a week for radiotherapy. Packed up and wore clothes from the wardrobe. Yesterday I caved and bought a couple of pair of wide leg trousers from H&M. I’ll try on when I’m home. We don’t have H&M at home but am back in the Uk next weekend so if needs be I can return them. I’m a leggy 5’10 so they may not be quite long enough.

Outfit today is a basic but bright for the office, summery dress. This was a sale but last year, I'm very meh about it, so it needs to prove itself a bit more. It's light and easy to wear, but it's not my favourite length and I feel a bit grumpy.

I do like this thread for being able to pick apart what I'm feeling and why, it's forcing me to review things.

15% off at H&M today, my kryptonite, so trying to stay strong, but there's so much I want.

Thank you for the welcome back and kind words! I will have to think of a suitable item @anon2022anon - many of my "only worn once or twice a year" things are black tie frocks / sequins / lamé, so not easy for three wears over the course of a short period of time (though I do do quite a lot of black tie dressing).

And @Cantonet it is one of my favourite colours too.

Happier than ever for an air-conditioned office this week, but going in early and leaving late (busy time of year) also helps. Otherwise, have brought out my trusty linen / cotton / viscose wrap dresses. Bought 3/4 years ago and they get relentless use for office wear in the summer.

@tonybennscat I find the way for me to wear any yellow (I also have a fondness for the colour) is to wear a bright red lip with it. Not for everyone, but it works for me!

Funny, @WillaDeWord I was with a friend this afternoon who said something similar. She had a lovely yellow cotton sweater on. I might borrow something off DD to try.

There’s a lady I follow on TikTok and she said similar. Although it was specifically about yellow shoes.

I wore this Merino/tencel dress today WFH to try and keep cool.

This is my other pair of Wolky Rio sandals that are my summer 'house shoes'.

@Cantonet, interesting that you have some non iron linen shirts from Wrap. Do you find them good for summer? Mine are quite thick but I still think they'll be good for sun protection when I'm outside. And I tend to wear casual tank dresses a lot in the summer (I have loads of merino tencel ones like the one I'm wearing today in different colours) so think I can put a linen shirt over the top for a cover up.

Mine is actually a linen cotton cheescloth like mix as attached & it's beautifully light. I thought I had more linen but the others are heavy cotton.
I do have a dress in crinkle linen & it's actually quite heavy. I wouldn't be able to wear it in Asia say due to the humidity. But it's fine for an English summers day.e

I understand what you mean about UK summer dresses in our weather! Didn't you live in Hong Kong at some point? The linen dress looks great for UK. I can imagine something like that becoming drenched in the humidity in Asia.

I now have 3 linen dresses, the longer one on the right I bought early last summer and wore it loads, it's quite thin, really cooling in hot weather and very casual. The other two were bought last Autumn and this Spring so I'm waiting to wear them for the first time.

The two on the left are the kind of thing that feel too nice to wear for everyday occasions, but I don't really do the kind of thing that requires dressing up very often. So if I was going to play the 'wear something I don't often wear' game, I'd like to take the opportunity to wear one of those dresses, just because I like them.

I do have a friend's birthday party coming up next month, but what to wear will very much depend on the weather.

I'm wearing this blouse today. It's embroidered, beaded & be-shelled with a conch shell drawstring at the bottom.

You are very kind, that's enough to inspire me. I'm going out for coffee with a friend on Monday, but the forecast says 13, so looks like I'll be back in my warm clothes! The dresses can wait till it gets summery again or I'll freeze.

I don't have other plans for the weekend and wouldn't just wear a nice dress at home. But it's so nice to have a 3 day weekend with the bank holiday.

I think I said, but after putting my other red trousers on Vinted, I bought a pair of red linen style wide leg trousers from next. Wore them for the first time today, and what a difference! To say that they probably look very similar on pictures, I've just felt so much more relaxed and like me in them. So very strange. I'm happy I bought them.

That blouse is so pretty, and I love the dresses too! The polka dots could easily get away with white canvas trainers, and the others with flats, a cardigan and a cross body bag to wear them casually. You could definitely get more wear out of them!

Thanks for the advice about the dresses. I agree about the trainers with the polka dot dress, with my problematic feet I only wear Hokas, but I have some cream summery ones that would work. I also have several pairs of casual sandals that would go with them.

Yes to cardigans as well, I think they would go with all of the dresses. I actually bought this lightweight cotton cardigan in 3 different colours last year heavily reduced in the sales as I got one and really liked it, so will try those with the dresses.

I think I could wear the green or orange one with the yellow dress, the orange or blue one with the polka dot dress and the green or blue one with the blue dress.

Really like the red linen trousers, are they much more comfortable than the synthetic ones? My first thought of course, being a lover of natural fabrics.

The new red trousers are only 15% linen, 85% viscose they are comfy as not itchy in the slightest. The only issue is that putting anything in the pocket drags them down as they're not heavy enough to stay where they were.

The other red trousers weren't natural materials, but were actually amazingly comfy- I imagine the were a viscose mix too, as the material was a decent thickness, but silky for flowy.

I'm not too fussed on whether it's natural or not, as to be honest I find it's very hard to get the balance of feeling good/ nice weight/ looks right without adding in the pressure of natural too 😁 I go for feels nice and won't need ironing over most other choices.

Right. I think I have found my "wear 3 ways" piece for the @anon2022anon challenge (really like the new red trousers btw): a black Max Mara top. Beautiful fine wool, cheap as chips in a charity shop two years ago. But I find the slight peplum difficult to style in a flattering way. More a work piece than a weekend piece so will have a go next week.

Otherwise, outfits from last few days below (few days off so dinner and theatre / gallery and lunch).

Love the yellow dress @Netcam agree that could see it being dressed down in the way previously suggested. Flats and a cross body bag are a good way to casual anything up.

I'm currently obsessed with belts.Especially leather rope belts & am looking for every opportunity to pair up with outfits.
I think your brown polka dot dress would look lovely paired with a basket bag. I wear my dresses with flipflops going to the supermarket here. It's a hiking beauty spot, so largely full of anoraks. But I love it when I see someone smart.

I love a viscose linen mix as it means less ironing.
But some of them are very thin this year. I've bought & returned 2 pairs of white trousers as the white pockets could be seen through them.
But mixes done right - I have a really good quality Jw Anderson shirt from Uniqlo in a cotton viscose mix. It's beautifully designed in a really sturdy fabric.

I'm having a lovely morning watching Amanda Wakeley on YouTube on Friday night fashion. They're visiting the Rixo store & it's absolutely fabulous.
Plus I've also watched the Cindy Crawford video with her daughter on the Zara app.
Can you tell I used to buy masses of fashion mags years ago? The equivalent now is You Tube/ Instagram videos & I'm here for it.

@Cantonet I watch Trinny sometimes on YouTube. Her lifestyle and clothes choices are a million miles from mine but I always enjoy her energy and enthusiasm. I’ll look up Friday Night Fashion.
