A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Love the leopard trainers! My go-to is silver or other metallic trainers - I'm quite crippled so I have a very limited range of shoe brands that I can actually walk in, but Hotter occasionally make some that aren't too grannyish, and then I buy them. It really cheers me up to glance down and see my spaceman feet!

In summer I mostly live in Birkenstock Gizehs - their flipflop style. I currently have about 10 pairs including silver, rose gold and pewter ones, which definitely get more wear than the non-metallic ones.

tonybennscat · 22/02/2025 19:40

I don’t think I’ve ever owned a leopard print item but those trainers are great fun. I’m a great fan of metallic trainers too. Oh, I tell a lie! I have some gold metallic trainers with a leopard pattern embossed on them. Will have to dig them out.

Trying to get back into fitness and my first visit to the gym since pre pandemic so M&S Goodmove leggings and top (at least 5 years old and pristine 😂) and an old hoody and ASICS trainers. I may need to buy a new hoody but the one I wore is about 10 years old so I’ll let myself off that one.

anon2022anon · 23/02/2025 06:29

@Netcam my birthdays not until July 😁 I was going to buy those trainers as soon as I found them in stock, and I spoilt the surprise!

dayslikethese1 · 23/02/2025 10:55

I'm doing low buy rather than no buy but my main thing is not to buy anything new. I have bought a trench coat and a dress off Depop in the last week but at least its secondhand. I'm going to a clothes swap next week to try and swap out some stuff I'm wanting to get rid of.

I’m planning to spend one of my afternoons off next week trading this whole thread.

I’m near the end of a massive declutter and cull of all of my winter clothes. It’s been a mammoth task as they span three dress sizes (I’ve recently lost weight and am back in a lot of my more classic stuff) and work/casual/sports wear. I had insane amounts of clothes and still do, by anyone else’s standards. But what I’ve kept fits properly and goes with other things I have, and works for my lifestyle.

I’m looking forward to reading more!

Snap @anon2022anon! I can say that so far they are excellent for travelling and walking long distances in.

And @SqueakyDinosaur I love the Hera pattern, and on these large vicuna scarves in particular. I have three: brown/black, grey/blue/tan and maroon/red/tan.

On a bullet train today, so am dressed for comfort (and the cold!)

@Princessfluffy I like that tank top. Do you find you get much use out of it? I have a black one, and really struggle to wear it in a non- monochrome way. I need more ideas!

Princessfluffy · 24/02/2025 07:41

@anon2022anon I absolutely love a wool tank top and I have quite a few in different colours.

I usually wear them with wide leg jeans or cords and often have a blouse underneath or a stripy long sleeve tshirt. I don't really wear black though. Monochrome is a good choice for black, maybe try burgundy?

I also wear mine with midi dresses and midi skirts.

Cantonet · 24/02/2025 14:24

I love the idea of tank tops, but for some reason they just don't suit me. My mum rocks them though. Especially the M&S Cashmere ones. In contrast I do love a knitted waistcoat in the summer as long as it has a v neck & cut away shoulders !

I'm admiring the leopard trainers @anon & @WillaDeWord. I'm waiting for a flatform version to come out for the vertically challenged.

I had a good try on yesterday of some summer clothes I haven't worn in several years. A lot are too girly & I don't look right in the elasticated bandeau style sundresses any more. Some have never been worn & are probably categorised as Vintage Monsoon nowadays. I will try & flog them on eBay, but has anyone else found it's gone very quiet recently.

I'm working on a small capsule for a few days in Mallorca next week. The weather may be variable so a lightweight coat is needed. I'm hoping I can escape from my Cashmere into shirts. I have a couple of silk shirts in leopard from the Sienna Miller range & a blue stripe from the Bella Freud range that will be perfect for nice meals out with jeans. The conundrum is what bag, coat & jeans to take in a 10 kg cabin bag? So I'm playing virtual dress up again with variable success 🤔
Here's some ideas I'm working on.
The theme is of course blue & leopard & I could really do with the flatform leopard Adidas now.

Thought I'd contribute to the wool tank top thread. I love them on other people but struggle a bit with both length and what to wear them with.

Here are mine, my favourite is the yellow/grey one which is a silk/wool blend that I got from someone who makes them and sells them on Etsy. The roll neck seems to suit me and the length is just right for my petite frame. The roll neck means I can wear it with any long sleeved top without worrying about the neck looking weird.

She also made the raspberry one, which is alpaca. I love the colour but it's a bit longer and has a kind of boat neck which I find harder to style. I don't think the shape suits me as much.

The blue one is Me&Em cashmere and I do like the shape/length, but again I don't wear it that often as I don't have many things it goes with. In theory I could wear it with a shirt, but I'm not a big shirt person. I do have a few silk shirts I like that could go with them, but that almost makes me feel too dressed up!

I also find the weather changes rapidly from being too cold for just a wool tank instead of a cardigan/jumper, to too warm for a wool tank.

I do understand how some people find them hard to make work. I have tried some in the past that look ridiculous on me. They can hang off my boobs and then stick out really wide at the waist in just the wrong place.

@Cantonet how lovely to be getting away somewhere warmer.

I'd bring some short sleeves in case it's hot. And maybe go for lightweight jeans/trousers that don't take up too much space.

@Netcam I'm hoping it will be warmer. We may be lucky, or hit a cooler spell. I'm planning on taking some shorts & a costume, as it's my sister's house & we need to fill up the hot tub, as she has her first booking coming up this year. So we can heat it up high for us as long as it's sunny. I'm just looking forward to a change of scene & some sun after the recent very gloomy weather.

I love a tank top on other people but haven’t found one that is the right shape for me. They always gape too much under the arms. I have the same problem with anything sleeveless.

That's interesting. I love lightweight (non wool) tank tops in the summer. It's getting them to look right over a long sleeved top I struggle with.

Trying to get my head around the Whering app and failing dismally ( and I am quite a techie person).
Anyway. Out last night to a terrible concert and wore a lovely Seasalt dress that I got in the sale after Christmas for £29 and a teal velvet jacket that must be 15 years old at least (M&S). Hasn’t fitted me for 10 of those years. Black chunky ankle boots and opaques and a gold pebble necklace from Oliver Bonas.

Beautiful unusual colours together @tonybennscat. I'm also enjoying the cycling colours 🌈

It's so far away from my own style & it's making me contemplate wearing more colour this spring. I used to wear a lot more, but recently I've been in a sea of predominantly neutrals. So I've listed all my spring-like clothes in a spring 25 lookbook. As I've forgotten what I have ie. an enormous number of Cashmere sweaters in lots of colours ( some are years old). Plus several neutral spring jackets/coats. My brown suede jacket is more than 20 years old & came from HK.
And a separate picture for lighter colour jeans.

I went into town yesterday wearing Cream Free People Osaka jeans with a Cream lace sleeved sweatshirt from the M&S sale years ago & felt good in it. With burgundy Adidas & a neutral trench it was easy to wear.

Attached are my spring 25 pics in an attempt to organise myself.

I bought a couple of tank tops last year - Marks grey cashmere and Joules navy with a cream picot trim.

I thought I needed a, ahem, crisp white shirt 😂but ended up with pink stripes. Long sleeve t shirts don't work for me, I need the collar.

So it's wide leg grey wool trousers, pink striped shirt and navy tank for work and black wide leg cargos, Seasalt Larissa shirt and grey cashmere for weekends.

Princessfluffy · 26/02/2025 14:29

@Cantonet love those spring colours, I wear those colours a lot. Do you have any bright trousers? I find those harder to find but I do have quite a few pairs.

There are still a fair few clothes that I haven't uploaded to Whering yet that I haven’t been wearing over autumn/winter. I need to do more uploads, I'm currently on 175 items and am building up quite a backlog of items for Vinted too.

Princessfluffy · 26/02/2025 14:31

For those struggling with getting tank tops to look right, my best tip is to try on sizes bigger than your usual size if your usual size doesn't look good. Also the length makes a difference and of course the neckline.

Netcam · 26/02/2025 22:03

@tonybennscat, dark pink and teal are one of my favourite colour combinations.

@Princessfluffy, I'd love some bright wide barrel leg trousers for summer that suit my 5'2 petite frame. I can never find any that suit me, most of them drown me. Any ideas?
