A new thread to share 'shopping from our wardrobes' so we realise we already have nice things to wear and don't need to buy anything else.

Here's the Genevieve Sweeney jumper that DH has got me for Christmas 2025, to avoid me buying anything for myself.

If there's anything else I find in the sales that I really want this year, it will have to be saved for my birthday in Jan 2026, as that's my Christmas present bought.

I'm determined to do stick by this!

Actually cardigan, not jumper. And glamorously styled with ancient H&M PJs.

That is gorgeous, @Netcam. I had never come across Genevieve Sweeney before - just looked the brand up. Some beautiful things and a great story behind them. However, I will try to stay strong for 2025 as I don't need any more knitwear!

Today presents a slight outfit conundrum. Breakfast at The Wolseley (such a beautiful place, and I try not to let it down with my outfits!) then off with a friend to try some Reiki (no idea what to expect, but they said that comfortable, loose clothes were a must).

This is what I have come up with.

And welcome @radiatorcat - agree that shape changes will affect how one feels about clothes.

Having been the same size, shape and weight for 22 years, I am gradually becoming curvier (or at least my hips are!) so am having to reassess what suits me and potentially consider getting rid of some of the wardrobe that no longer flatters in the way it used to.

Netcam · 09/02/2025 10:25

@WillaDeWord , thanks, it's packed away in DH's wardrobe, only 11 months till I get it! I did have me eye on it for months but avoided buying as it was so expensive.

I feel the same about body shape. Even though I have managed to lose post menopausal weight and more.

I tried on a fairly tight fitting summer dress recently that I used to wear confidently when I weighed more and felt that my stomach sticks out in it now, despite me being lighter.

@WillaDeWord, love the yellow/gold trousers

Beautiful cardigan @Netcam & it's very restrained of you to wait a year to wear it.

@Willdeword the brocade silk? Looks stunning on those trousers.

I adore the wedding outfit too. It absolutely suits you & you look so at ease in it.

I'm having a Pyjama day here. Sainsbury's Tu Muslin Pjs & a Crush Cashmere long Fringed Cardi. Plus cashmere socks & wrap because it's freezing.

10 mile walk in the countryside with one of my closest friends today. Devold Norwegian wool fisherman's jumper, Icebreaker wool filled/lined coat, Hoka trainers, Acclima merino outdoor leggings. Dilling merino base layers underneath.

How luxurious @Cantonet

Think I am beginning a slight cold. But while I really want to be at home and wearing @Cantonet's quiet, cosy luxury, I need to go in.

So am wearing the next best thing in my wardrobe (which allows for a blazer). With the flat loafers, not the suede heels!

I really like the Icebreaker coat @Netcam - a great length.

WillaDeWord · 11/02/2025 07:43

And @Cantonet it is a silk / viscose mix. One of my best charity shop finds - perfect for travelling and, it turns out, for Reiki.

Netcam · 11/02/2025 08:50

@WillaDeWord, thanks, that coat was a great bargain, bought for £89 in 2017 and stored NWT until this winter when I finally got it out. I was keeping it until I wanted a new coat.

Icebreaker coats like this are usually very expensive as they have merino twill lining and wool filling, which makes them really light and breathable. It probably would have cost about £250 new then, and they don't make them in that style anymore.

It is also machine washable and has a water resistant outer.

Todays outfit - a simple swap-in / out of some key items to free up headspace.

Lovely bag, @WillaDeWord ! What make is it?

A very sad day for me today, the Woodland burial service for an amazing friend of mine who died way too young. She asked for bright colours to be worn.

Oops have colour bombed the thread now!

TosstTastic · 12/02/2025 18:08

I'm in my gardening clothes whilst the weather is dry and then I seek out the softest warmest cocoon of items for the evening. A padded.cotron pinafore with some form of wool tee and a cardigan. I guess if we spent more on heating, I'd have less for clothes.

TosstTastic · 12/02/2025 18:10

Sorry about your friend @Princessfluffy , in the monochrome of February the colourful dress code request must have helped on a difficult day.

Princessfluffy · 12/02/2025 19:38

Thank you @TosstTastic, it was a sad and grey day today but my friend is buried in a bluebell wood in a beautiful wicker coffin. It still seems unreal.

Office day today, it was really nice to see my colleagues as I hadn't been in since just before Christmas.

Jeans and jumper is our typical office wear, also wore a green/black/blue thick striped merino long sleeved top that I don't seem to have on my Whering App.

This is a beautiful outfit. I bet it was perfect. I’ve got a similar event next week. Am going full Victorian black.

lots of love to you. Be kind to yourself in the coming weeks x

Princessfluffy · 12/02/2025 21:09

Thank you @Netcam and @AgathaMystery
I am so sorry for your loss @AgathaMystery, full on Victorian outfit sounds perfect, will you wear jet jewellery and a veil too?
I was thinking today that in some ways it's a shame we don't really as a society do a mourning period of wearing black still.

AgathaMystery · 12/02/2025 23:44

Well I was going to come on here for outfit advice… I’ve got a black dress from ME+EM via Vinted. Going to wear with black Unisa heels but… and here is the kicker… I’m one of the pall bearers so will have to wear sensible shoes for that part.

DH will keep the heels in the pew for me to pop on. The heels are true black but the frock is like a sludgy black. DD asked if it was very very dark green. I can see what she means. I have one excellent coat but it’s fawn. I think it will look nice - just unsure of accessories.

My friend has left me her collection of Mulberry handbags. A love we shared - so I think I will use one of those - hers not mine. She’d like that. Her best colour was yellow, so I might tie a yellow silk hankie to the bag? I don’t know. I’m absolutely stuck. This is one outfit I can’t seem to pull together.
