Longline ‘fitted’ puffer coat quest

Whosmakingdinner · 10/12/2024 16:06

Advice needed please for a ladies longline puffer coat which doesn’t make me look like Michelin man. Needs to be good guality to last for years, so I don’t mind paying more for this purchase. Ideally I’m looking for a navy colour with silver trimmings (zip and fasteners). The best ‘fitted’ one I’ve found so far is Joules Cherington but the fasteners etc are a shiny brass colour. I’m 5’8 and size 14/16 Many thanks !!

I have the mackage calina and it’s great

Hi have one from regatta I got it through next - I bought it a size big so I can wear a big hoodie under but I’m normal size it would be more fitted. Think it was £70. It’s SO warm for the school run etc

I've got this one: https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/florence-womens-long-padded-jacket-p15088.aspx/navy/

I'm an 18. I don't look fat or Michelin-y in it. No silver trim, but on the plus side there's no brass either Wink

Would it be warm enough for the current cold snap and is it better to size up? X

Yes, has been for me anyway. Seems true to size to me (inasmuch as anything can be when everything seems to differ from store to store!). Maybe size up if you want a thick jumper or something underneath but I haven't needed to.

I bought the Joules one last year but returned it. I just couldn't justify the cost at the time but it is definitely one of the more flattering puffa styles I've tried. I also have an older version of the Trespass coat mentioned up thread that I paid £33 for from Debenhams when it wasn't owned by Ashley. It's not quite as flattering as the Joules style as it doesn't snatch in so much at the waist but I could forgive that for the excellent value for money. As a sad commuter it has definitely kept me warm and dry.

I bought this in black and size 8. Fits like a glove and is fitted/slimming.

I've got a gorgeous long puffer fron Tog24. It's really warm but breathable and you can see it isn't a cheap one.
Theres a good sale on at the monent. This navy one is only available in an 8 unfortunately but if that's no good to you there are quite a few other styles and colours.

I have a longline Zara one. It is very cosy but does make me look like the Michelin man. But when it's freezing outside I'm just glad to be warm.

Barbour padded coats, 100%. Classic length, style and very warm. A proper, warm, fitted coat doesn’t go out of style. I have 3 of the joules fitted coats, and my Barbour is far warmer despite feeling lighter. The materials are better quality.

Sgreenpy · 06/01/2025 01:11

Have a look at Passenger. Quite a few longer line coats - size down for a closer fit!

Frazzled83 · 06/01/2025 14:12

Brass zips aside I’ve got the joules one and it’s the comfiest thing in the world. Super warm, not too bulky, hood actually stays on my head. Love love love it and I swore I’d never be a duvet coat lady 😂

Wrestlingwrigglybaby · 06/01/2025 21:03

I have a navy coat with silver zips from Jack Wolfskin, its a few years old now but there seemed to be a couple of navy options on their website. Its very warm too!

I’ve been eyeing this coat! How does it fit? I’m 5ft 4 with a small frame so just wondering if the coat will suit

SamVan · 07/01/2025 12:24

@whenitsover im 5ft 5 and 52 kg and xs fits me well. S would also be fine for the thicker jumpers. Just be aware that it’s long! That’s what I wanted but I don’t know if you’ll find it too long.

Stella McCartney for Adidas.

Thanks for this link. I've been looking at all the recommendations but I didn't want to make a big splurge as I have coats aplenty. This one looks nice and was in the budget I had in mind so I went ahead and ordered.

Heads up that code RGEXLA20 got me an extra 20% off 😊

Scandinavian Edition are £££ but sooo warm and excellent quality.

I have their longline coat, which whilst not exactly fitted, is slim-fitting. It's really lightweight as well, so it's lovely to wear.

Wow that hood looks amazing in the video where she zips it up. But not fully waterproof puts me off, that and the price!

I’ve ordered the Trespass one which looks like hopefully the perfect coat, and is a total bargain. I will report back re sizing.
