In your opinion what is the nicest ever perfume?

Jo Malone any from her range.....love!

Kittiwakeup · 29/12/2024 16:28

I love Vilhelm parfumerie NY and Byfredo Bal d'Afrique. Some of the Frederic Malle ones are really nice. I don't like any of Jo Malone's. I really don't like Halfeti which reminds me of the scents my great grandmother wore when I was a child.

I got Guidance by Amouage for Christmas, really love it at the moment but there'll be another new one come along in a minute to usurp it! I'm just shocked by how expensive perfume is now

TinkyBella · 29/12/2024 16:41

Chanel - Bois des Iles

i had a sample of Halfeti - probably the worst fragrance I’ve ever worn - even after washing it off, I could still smell it . . .

Yes I found it really cloying and it actually gave me a headache. I wondered if it was just how my skin reacted to it as so many seem to like it.

Has anyone worn Chanel Leon.
It was raved about in the Sunday Times magazine (by India Knight I think).
I got a spray of it on a card tester.
I think there's a very faint whiff of pine disinfectant off it.
I won't be buying.
I smelled Chanel Edinburgh on someone recently and thought it was lovely.
I find though what can smell lovely on others might be ghastly on me.

Ghost - orb of the night opulence

JPG - So Scandal

YSL - Rive Gauche

Blondiney · 29/12/2024 18:46

I have a teensy problem with perfume, think nearly 200 bottles 🫣 I’ve sniffed a lot and love many but Coromandel has been my favourite for almost a decade.

Justmemyselfandi999 · 29/12/2024 18:49

Escada Collection 2000 or 2001. Simply divine. Nothing else will ever come close

Kittiwakeup · 29/12/2024 19:04

I loved the old Tiffany perfume. They discontinued it and I don't like any of their new ones.

TheZenOne22 · 29/12/2024 19:14

I’ve really enjoyed reading through this thread and have written down a few scents I’m going to test.

my current faves are:

Le Labo - Another 13
Roses Greedy - Mancera

Cantonet · 29/12/2024 19:47

In the past( 80's) it was the original Annick Goutal Eau d Hadrien. Then Prescriptives Calyx in the 90's. The Clinique version that came out as a re-lauch smelled similar but wasn't exactly the same. More recently it was Cristalle edp, but that has been completely buggered about now.

I'm reluctant to buy new versions of my old favourites now, as they've changed so much. So I keep my perfumes stored in a cool cabinet for years.

In my regulars, I have:
YSL - Rive Gauche - I fell in love as a child b/c my mother wore it on her rare nights out. She also liked Nina Ricci, l'air du temps
Halston - spicy, woody and masculine; a winter perfume for me (not as subtle as it was in the 90s but still a contrast to the big florals)
Badgley Mishka - I don't think they make it any more but I have two precious tubes.
Sung - Alfred Sung - slightly aniseed
CK Contradiction - very caramel
Givenchy - Amarige - almond but a bit heavy
Eliz. Arden - Sunflowers - a great summertime perfume

a colleague used to wear D&G light blue - always a nose tickler in a good way
a friend wears Prada - it's okay but has an undertone that puts me off
Yvresse/Champagne - too heavy and oily for me
Guerlain - Pamplelune - wanted to like this but it had a note of cat piss for me (civet)

If you could only pick one of them, which one would it be?

I’ll never forgive Stella McCartney for discontinuing In Two Peony.

Movinghouseatlast · 29/12/2024 20:04

Chanel Cristalle. I've worn it now for 35 years, it's the only perfume I like, although I'm sucked in to buying others sometimes. It is glorious.

Issy Miyake original. Get lots of compliments.
Used to wear anais anais in the 80’s.
Lots of perfumes give me headaches sadly.

Tooty78 · 29/12/2024 20:34

Veneta Bottega for Autumn/Winter.
Eau Dynamisante for Summer.

What does ‘nicest’ mean?

I recall the feeling of utter euphoria sweeping out of my top floor bedsit into rainy Cambridge in the 80’s - swathed in Joy EdP. (I gather it’s changed since then, as everything does.)

And the total excitement of graduate life opening out - accompanied by Guerlain’s Jicky.

Then sneaking out of a City office to luxuriate in the atmosphere of the nearest Penhaligon’s shop - I think Jubilee Bouquet was my primary love.

Decades later reshaping my life wrapped in Vero Kern’s Onda. (And probably spending the rest of my life regretting not investing in Rubj, which I still miss dreadfully.)

Currently happiness is swishing around the beloved city I’ve recently moved back to wrapped in Perfumer H’s Ink, which seems to express so much. Although the same perfumer’s Dandelion is tempting me too …

I wouldn’t describe any of those as ‘nice’ - but they’re all breathtaking. I couldn’t choose just one - they’re each inextricably entwined with a particular period of my life.

this is such a nice way to think and write about nicest, i loved reading it, thank you.

other than that, it is sooo overpriced and hipstered to hell and you cant walk round my city’s financial district or more well to do areas without being assaulted by it which is hilarious given how little i earn. But Santal 33 by Le Labo, I can’t help it.

mrsld1985 · 29/12/2024 21:06

The original Jimmy Choo or Cacharels Amor Amor

avaritablevampire · 29/12/2024 21:12

All the perfumes I loved have been discontinued or had a change to the original recipe.
I loved Chloe narcisse and the original 80s Chloe, both discontinued.
Moonflower from the body shop discontinued
White linen still available but smells different from the original one and it's just not the same, it's slightly sweeter and has fewer woody clean scent.
Yet to find another perfume I like for winter. I like a lighter, fresher perfume in spring and don't wear perfume in summer and autumn due to attracting stingy/ bitey insects 🐝 🦟 .

3kidsaremorethanenough · 29/12/2024 21:12

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. Wearing it now for the last 11 years. Have the shower gel body lotion and body mist - absolutely love it ❤️

PickledOwl1 · 29/12/2024 21:17

New West by Aramis
