Nicest ever perfume

SaagAloopa · 09/12/2024 18:30

In your opinion what is the nicest ever perfume?

OP posts:
Ginmonkeyagain · 10/12/2024 08:05

I go through phases. Currently in a very woody, masculine phase so in love with Oak Moss by Sunspel and Tu Te Calmes by Maison Matine.

I love Blenheim Bouquet by Penhaligons but sadly it does not last.

In complete contrast I also love single note floral perfumes. I adored Honeysuckle by American brand Demeter but I don't think it is available in the UK any longer.

Gucci Envy (Discontinued 😢)
Miss Dior (one from the 80s not modern one)

Es the original Miss Dior from the 80s 90s was divine!

WHY did they change it?

BrightNewLife · 10/12/2024 08:16

Ooh I forgot Ester Lauder Pleasures - the original. Also smelled it on a very glamorous boss I used to work with and adopted it as mine.

Loads of great ideas on this thread, I’ve screenshotted them!

ImWearingPantaloons · 10/12/2024 08:31

Jicky, after maybe an hour of spraying

LunaNorth · 10/12/2024 08:34

Le Labo Santal 33

Petrine · 10/12/2024 08:41

L’Heure Bleue Guerlain

I’ve worn this for over 50 years and never tire of it

Portabella · 10/12/2024 08:57

I still love Angel and have been wearing it on and off for years.

Chanel mademoiselle is my going out perfume.

I love CK1 as a day time summer perfume.

Starlight1979 · 10/12/2024 09:10

I'm so jealous reading this thread as I can never seem to find a perfume that suits me OR that I can wear without it being overbearing for any period of time!!! I have a couple of Jo Malone and Diptyque travel sprays but I literally wear them a few times a year on nights out and even then, they make me feel a bit sick after an hour or so😭

I always smell perfume on other women that I think is amazing but when I go to Boots / Selfridges and spray it on myself, I never like them?!?!

What's all that about?!

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 10/12/2024 09:14

Lancôme - L'autre Oud sadly discontinued
Givenchy - air in d'escapade also sadly discontinued
Burberry - weekend

These are my top 3

CaveMum · 10/12/2024 09:16

@Starlight1979 the Esentric Molecule perfumes might be worth a try? The whole theory behind them is that they smell slightly different on everyone as they react to your body chemistry.

They contain a chemical compound that is in a very small dose in most perfume s, but they use a higher concentration so the individual reaction is much more noticeable.

It’s very expensive sadly but you can pick up those little sample bottles for about £20.

Fraaahnces · 10/12/2024 09:17

@Starlight1979 personal skin chemistry makes a huge difference. So often I have asked people what that delicious fragrance was, and it’s been Chanel Chance. Every time I have tried it, it’s immediately acrid and toxic-smelling like a combination of bleach and bug spray. It honestly smells nothing like the yumminess I have smelled on others. (Disappointed)

Yes this!!! I have smelt so many nice perfumes, asked someone what it is, only to go and try it myself and find it so strong and overpowering and nothing like what I smelt!

But this seems to be the case with almost every perfume I have ever tried - I don't get it?!

I have just Googled it and you can get a "discovery set" for £55?! I think I'm going to give this a go... Will forward the link to DP now as a Christmas pressie idea😉

Thank you!

I really recommend getting the Perfume Society sample boxes. Someone on here recommended them to me last year and it was a revelation.

12 proper sample sizes for about £25 so it’s a cheap way to try out new scents. I discovered Lancombe Idole this way and it’s now my daily scent.

As an older person now I'm just going to do a throwback here. My late mother wore Estee Lauder Youth Dew, don't know if anyone remembers it.

Some time after she died, I found a bottle of it in some of her stuff I was storing that we hadn't sorted out. Folks, she was beside me when I smelled that perfume.

deeahgwitch · 10/12/2024 09:28

My go to when dressed up is Chanel Jersey.
Daytime it's Rituals Jing or a dupe of Tom Ford Neroli.
What I'd love is Coty to bring back their cheap but fabulous Wild Musk.

boobot1 · 10/12/2024 09:38

Guerlain - Insolence
JPG - Classique

Wheelyfast · 10/12/2024 09:56

@Havalona youth dew! That's a perfume I have an attachment to as well, it reminds me of a family friend when I was a child. I can't wear it it's too "much" for me but also have a bottle of it somewhere x

The one I get the most comments on is Penhaligon’s Halfeti, but it’s fearfully expensive and I’m not sure I’ll ever be in the position to be able to justify another bottle.

For day to day and more affordable, I like Clinique Happy. Fancy trying their Elixir after reading previous comments though.

If you like Penhaligon’s Halfeti, try this .... it's gorgeous! https://thesaltworkscompany.com/collections/wood-spicy/products/oud-bazaar

Oud Bazaar

Dreaming creates an aura of mystery, strength and self-confidence around the wearer. What is unique about this fragrance is Cinnamon and woody notes with a slightly cool character with leather accents warming the entire composition.

Edited

Perfume is so evocative and memory inducing isn't it?

VelvetWildflower · 10/12/2024 10:41

Creed Sublime Vanille is the nicest perfume I've ever smelled. It is, however, £400 and way outside of my budget. I don't think there are any dupes.

However I love (and wear daily) Burberry Goddess.

Growsomeballswoman · 10/12/2024 12:01

Tendre Poison. I miss it so much 😫

DecayingRelic · 10/12/2024 12:01

EBearhug · 10/12/2024 12:27

Skin chemistry definitely makes a difference. I have yet to find a Guerlain perfume I can wear, but have friends who swear by them.

I've had expensive perfumes.and cheap perfumes.
Without a doubt the one I ALWAYS get asked about and complimented on is "Black Tulip" by Shay and Blue. I've had complete strangers ask me about it when I'm wearing it.

just got a sample in my advent calendar and its so lovely and stay on for hours! it reminds me of being cool and in control of everything, which is an illusion I like to carry with me haha!
