In your opinion what is the nicest ever perfume?

Useful tool here that recommends perfumes you may like. Just type in something you already like to wear and it will give you similar recommendations.

MFK - Feminin Pluriel

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/12/2024 13:45

@Havalona my mum always used to wear L'Aire de Temps by Nina Ricci. I smelt someone wearing it on the bus last week and turned round fully expecting to see my mum - except she died in 1994.

Es the original Miss Dior from the 80s 90s was divine!

WHY did they change it?

that Miss Dior is now called Miss Dior Originale
https://www.boots.com/miss-dior-eau-de-toilette-originale-spray-100ml-10035283

then in 2005 came Miss Dior Cherie, which started the line of current Miss Diors (and never ending reformulations)

I love perfume and reformulations are the bane of my life Especially as the houses seem to sneak the reformulations out without letting us know. All three of my signature scents were ruined by reformulations and the way I found out was when I blind bought a replacement only for it to smell like nothing close to the original. (Poison by Dior, Alien by Mugler and Black Opium by YSL)

My current favourites are Shalimar and La Petite Robe Noire, both by Guerlain.

When I was little and my mum used to kiss me good night before she went out, I used to smell her Chanel 5. I still associate it with glamour and being grown up.

My mum always wore. Chanel no 5 at Christmas. And now, so do I …

Just looked this up! It's £255 for 100 ml

How is it different to eg Jo Malone rose?

Lipstick rose smells exactly of the lipstick of yesteryear to me - I came even really smell the rose in it. Frederic Malle Portrait of a lady is a sort of Turkish rose and I like it much more than lipstick rose. It has more depth. Jo Loves Rose and lemon (i think!) is a nice true garden rose to my nose.

I was given a sample of Orange Blossom when I was in Penhaligon's recently. Absolutely fell in love. It's been discontinued 😭. Ah well ... I'd never have been able to afford it.

Not RTFT so someone else may already have said this, but try fleurs d'oranges by serge lutens. Absolutely gorgeous and really lasts.

@Starlight1979 personal skin chemistry makes a huge difference. So often I have asked people what that delicious fragrance was, and it’s been Chanel Chance. Every time I have tried it, it’s immediately acrid and toxic-smelling like a combination of bleach and bug spray. It honestly smells nothing like the yumminess I have smelled on others. (Disappointed)

This is me with pomegranate noir by Jo Malone. It's so lovely on other people and just absolutely crap on me

JMAngel1 · 10/12/2024 19:03

Gosh just one!! It’s impossible.

Narciso Rodriguez for her EDT. I have to have a bottle of this at all times!
D&G Light Blue for summer
Chanel 1957 for bedtime
by Killian Angels Share for winter

Healthanxiousss · 10/12/2024 19:43

Ralph Lauren Blue for Woman ( discontinued years ago)
Armani Sensi also discontinued.
All these amazing ones are gone..

ItsFreedomBabyYeah · 10/12/2024 20:14

Wallabyone · 10/12/2024 00:29

YSL Babydoll was my perfume for many, many years. I loved it, and it was discontinued 😩😩My husband hunted down the last few bottles available in London and I made it last as long as I could but then it was gone.

Now, I wear Miss Dior eau de parfum, and the edp of Vetiver by Diptyque. These tend to last reasonably well on me.

I must admit I too have Miss Dior. It's lovely

Suzuki76 · 10/12/2024 20:23

I have some amazing ones (love an orange or poppy perfume - I got the Jo Malone Paddington marmalade one for my 40th and I like Boss Orange and Flower by Kenzo) but I am a vanilla girl. So:

D&G The One
Chopard Casmir (like a vanilla punch in the face)
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

I also really, really like 4160 Tuesdays Paris 1948 which, oddly, has a base note of hay.

Suzuki76 · 10/12/2024 20:25

If anyone likes Chanel Mademoiselle, Next Eau Nude is very similar.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 10/12/2024 20:35

I loved Tentation by Paloma Picasso - of course they stopped making it.

That’s a great tool, thanks!

Greywhippet · 10/12/2024 23:19

Penhaligons Blasted Bloom. Used to just transport me! So sad they discontinued it.

tzarine · 11/12/2024 04:00

himalaya - creed
bleinhem bouquet - penhaligon's
l'eau d'orange verte - hermes

Fraaahnces · 11/12/2024 05:59

I thought of another… Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate. I “bought it for my husband” who has worn it once. Utterly mouth-watering.

Creed Sublime Vanille is the nicest perfume I've ever smelled. It is, however, £400 and way outside of my budget. I don't think there are any dupes.

However I love (and wear daily) Burberry Goddess.

I've ordered a sample - I won't be able to afford whole bottle but I NEED to smell this!

I really recommend getting the Perfume Society sample boxes. Someone on here recommended them to me last year and it was a revelation.

12 proper sample sizes for about £25 so it’s a cheap way to try out new scents. I discovered Lancombe Idole this way and it’s now my daily scent.

https://perfumesociety.org/product-category/discovery-boxes/

Ooh thanks!

Shay and blue black tulip . Always get compliments when wearing this

Wordau · 09/12/2024 21:52

I used to love this as a 20 something!

Which one? The original (and best) or the little girl sickly sweet one that is a bastardization???
