A question or 2 about "Knickers" to the mature women amongst us!!

lovenotwar149 · 21/10/2024 20:07

  1. Do women in their mid fifties still wear thongs??
  2. For those of us who dont anymore, do you still wear knickers that still look a bit sexy so to speak? Or has that gone out the window now?

Never wore thongs - so uncomfortable.
No I have rarely l worn anything other than cotton briefs. I might have worn something slightly less matronly on a date but can't really recall anybody being interested in my underwear!

biedrona · 22/10/2024 13:24

I'm 45 and even though I am UK10 on bottom, I tend to buy size L knickers to be more comfortable.

Flatulence · 22/10/2024 13:28

I'm mid 40s. I wear big pants most of the time as I find them more comfortable. I occasionally wear a thong to avoid a VPL. I also have a few 'nice' pants and lingerie sets that I wear when I want to feel especially good/confident.
However, the main thing is to wear whatever you like, whatever you feel comfortable in, and whatever you think works for your outfit or your body.
One of my friends is a decade older than me and swears that she'll be buried in a thong as she hates big pants so much - so it's all very much down to what you prefer.

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/10/2024 13:28

Thongs all the way for me. Or commando, lol. Can’t bear big pants, remind me of my period days, lol. Far prefer thongs and have always found them comfortable with less vpl risk (I can’t bear a vpl, if you don’t care that’s fine too).

rainfallpurevividcat · 22/10/2024 13:33

I'm 49 and I wear Brazilian pants in summer, sort of a thong with more coverage, not a cheese cutter.

Most of the time I wear hipster shorts type pants.

Ha, me too! I'm a size 8 and always buy size 12 full briefs for comfort! I'm 63.

LadyDanburysCane · 22/10/2024 13:41

I’m 55 and sometimes wear thong if wearing something particularly future skimming. Usual under crackers are Brazilian knickers from M&S. I really can’t get behind (or inside) big knickers, I like sexy or pretty underwear.

KirstenBlest · 22/10/2024 14:28

I'd be picking the brazilians out of my crack all day. Not a good look.

Of course that should say FIGURE skimming 🙄

KirstenBlest · 22/10/2024 14:57

Future skimming sounded more mysterious.

Question for thong wearers... apologies if too much information , but do you feel the bit of material chafing your anus and the delicate skin around it?
I think I'd always be wanting to tug it out!!

My period pants with sanitary towels were always a red pair (red floral synthetic Top Shop) or a black or navy blue cotton normal knicker. Hema does or did a good basic black, white multipack of normal cotton knickers.

girljulian · 22/10/2024 15:49

I'm mid-30s and I've never ever been happy with any knicker that didn't cover my whole bum!

Lampzade · 22/10/2024 15:50

I wearcotton pants with lacy bits on the edges.
Not exactly granny pants
I hate things with a passion and would rather go commando tbh

mathanxiety · 22/10/2024 15:58

They're very 90s.
I've never worn them. Comfy cotton all the way.

Normallynumb · 22/10/2024 16:25

Never worn them myself
I'm 59 and have always worn cotton high legs with lace trim.. usually TU as M&S have reduced the multipack to 4 and increased the price!

justbeingasmartarse · 22/10/2024 18:17

Oh hell no.

If you are wearing the right size (some people are, let’s say, “economic” with their size selection) a thong will no more cut into your bum than a pair of “regular full back” knix will cut into your leg.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 22/10/2024 18:45

46 here, I wear no vpl lace shorts.

Used to wear thongs and g-strings when I was younger. I cringe looking back and remembering having them showing over the top of my low slung hipster trousers. Fashion was ghastly sometimes.😂

StarlightLady · 22/10/2024 19:12

If l’ve got tights on, l wear the M&S Autograph Seam Free ones; no centre seam across your tummy. They come with a cotton gusset, designed by someone who seems to know what a woman looks like. I don’t wear knickers with those. They adhere to the body and stop up better that way.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/10/2024 19:41

User1836484645R · 22/10/2024 09:58

I’m just in my 50s and it’s still thongs for me and sometimes not even those. I have a (possibly irrational) VPL phobia so I can’t see it changing any time soon.

I’d rather see a vpl than that tell take triangle at the back.

KirstenBlest · 22/10/2024 19:54

Me too. It usually looks like a tiny pair of knickers with a huge arse hanging out of it, often in almost transparent leggings.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/10/2024 20:07

I don't understand that. Full knickers sit flat over your bum. The edges also sit on an expanse of skin. The back bit of a thong sits on a crack, so it goes into it, whatever size the thong! Whether tight or loose, the material does not belong between butt cheeks!

ForGreyKoala · 22/10/2024 21:41

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 22/10/2024 09:50

Never tried them because they look so ugly.

Yep, and having followed many women wearing them with leggings it is bloody obvious they are wearing a thong, and it's not an attractive look. Unless you have a pert bum and/or thick leggings all we can see is wobbbly dimples. Can't understand how that is better than a VPL.

LorettyTen · 22/10/2024 21:49

I like cotton midi shape but M&S stopped doing them. I've got some nice microfibre no vpl for under tight things. I'm quite skinny so not much bum coverage needed. I'm 60+ and have never worn a cheese wire thong, I don't like the idea of it up my bum all day.
