A question or 2 about "Knickers" to the mature women amongst us!!

  1. Do women in their mid fifties still wear thongs??
  2. For those of us who dont anymore, do you still wear knickers that still look a bit sexy so to speak? Or has that gone out the window now?

@JaneFondue Have you tried Damart yet?

Boomer55 · 22/10/2024 09:08

No, I don’t wear thongs - but I’ve never liked them anyway. They are not flattering on 99% of women. 🤷‍♀️

Comfortable and pretty ones for me now. 🙂

user47 · 22/10/2024 09:09

I have never worn one. Always HATED riding a bike too. I think I have a very sensitive vulva and backside!

Shrinking gussets? What temperature are you washing at? Viscose is also a natural fibre, but has stretch. I’ve not had problems with shrinkage.

I don't mean they shrank in the wash. M and S now mostly come with tiny gussets. Cost cutting.

Viscose not my thing.

Sorry to digress. The issue about bikes is that saddles are designed by men and made for men. Women are often not even an afterthought.

My friend is 65 and only wears thongs. To me they look uncomfortable and the opposite of sexy. Black M&S shorts here and commando when I don't want a vpl.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/10/2024 09:12

I never wore thongs. Awful uncomfortable things. Plus I think they look silly, not sexy. I was never into sexy underwear tbh. These days (early 50s) I wear biggish pants. I'm more interested in comfort and how my clothes look over them than in what they look like in the 3 seconds when I'm putting them on or taking them off!

letshavetea · 22/10/2024 09:14

I wear Chantelle. Seam free and one size (sounds unbelievable but they work!). Black or neutral. Sooo comfy!

StarlightLady · 22/10/2024 09:15

There’s a lot of “l’ve never had it because l don’t like it” food type attitude here! I’ve never worn but so uncomfortable???? 🤔

Disturbia81 · 22/10/2024 09:20

Tried them once aged 18, couldn't for the life in my understand who would find them comfortable or a good look.

I meant I have never been in the habit of wearing them. I tried twice with different thongs and threw them away because I didn't like how they looked and they were uncomfortable.

Manyshelves · 22/10/2024 09:23

55 and still wear thongs a lot. I do a lot of sport and generally like to avoid vpl. My favourites are the adidas ones with a high front which are great under gym leggings, or John Lewis ones. But I pretty much always wear nice pants

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/10/2024 09:43

I'm not sure when I last wore a thong, since 'seamless' knickers have come on the market I haven't needed to. I'm 50 but my teenage daughter doesn't wear thongs either.

Are any men out there stressing over their choice of underwear and how it 'looks' to their wives/partners??!

curious79 · 22/10/2024 09:48

big pants. It's a comfort thing and helps keep my belly flat in trousers. I sometimes wore thongs when younger and they were hell

Often, l look at men and think they should!

I’m not in my mid fifties yet, but I haven’t worn a thong since my early twenties, and I wish I hadn’t then.
DH buys me lacy, pretty knickers but I don’t wear them (unless they are about to be immediately ripped off). For me, it’s comfy pants all the way.

Manyshelves · 22/10/2024 09:49

Men definitely do think about good pants, as an aside!

Never tried them because they look so ugly.

NoisyDenimShaker · 22/10/2024 09:52

I've never worn thongs; I find them so uncomfortable. I also don't really see the point of wearing knickers with no back to them. The only time I'd wear thongs is if I'm having a sex session, but it wouldn't occur to me to wear them as an everyday item. If VPL is the issue, I'd rather wear shapewear than have my cellulite show through material because my bum is bare.

ThornVampire · 22/10/2024 09:56

What does it matter what other women are wearing? Literally no one sees them, they're UNDERWEAR

pizzaHeart · 22/10/2024 09:57

tillyandmilly · 21/10/2024 21:50

Never worn those thongs - thry look so uncomfortable and unhygienic!

That’s exactly my thoughts.
tbh cotton underwear can look very nice depending otherwise silk is the answer.

User1836484645R · 22/10/2024 09:58

I’m just in my 50s and it’s still thongs for me and sometimes not even those. I have a (possibly irrational) VPL phobia so I can’t see it changing any time soon.

NoisyDenimShaker · 22/10/2024 10:00

I get those 5-pair cotton multipacks from M&S in different colours and patterns, either bikini style or high-leg. Works for me.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 10:03

Mid 50's, haven't worn a thong since early 40's & even then only for evenings when I knew they wouldn't be on long!

They can look nice on slim youngsters with very firm buns. But mostly look ghastly on most normal bodies. I'd rather see a pl than a wobbly cellulite arse.

if I wore one now it may require excavating!!

I found a very comfortable line at Matalan of all places, which I wore for years, but annoyingly they've changed the cut of the leg and they're not so comfortable, but still the best I can find.🤷🏻‍♀️

the only person that really sees them prefers lingerie on the floor regardless of its design/colour, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I may be in my 40s but l’m regularly seen in mine 😉.
