A question or 2 about "Knickers" to the mature women amongst us!!

  1. Do women in their mid fifties still wear thongs??
  2. For those of us who dont anymore, do you still wear knickers that still look a bit sexy so to speak? Or has that gone out the window now?

I'm in my 60s and have never worn a thong (shudder!). I have always dressed for comfort, and boyshorts have been my knickers of choice for a very long time.

Joycedelight · 22/10/2024 06:48

I'm 40s and only wear thongs. I can't wear any other style so imagine I'll be wearing them in my 50s too.

muddyford · 22/10/2024 06:50

Same here!

Farmgoose · 22/10/2024 06:50

Comfort all the way. I wear Sloggi Romance. They have a bit of lace so not really ugly.

It’s funny when I peg them next to my two daughters’ knickers. 4 grammes of tiny nylon thongs in a row then my giant two peg jobs.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 22/10/2024 06:51

Not that I think about underwear as 'sexy' but thongs are deeply unattractive on even the nicest of arses. I can't imagine a time outside of the 90s that one is required, I find big pants much less obvious under clothes.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/10/2024 06:53

Judging by what other women are wearing in the gym changing rooms, I’d say most women in their fifties opt for comfort. The only people I see in thongs are 20s max.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 22/10/2024 06:59

In my 50s and wear either a thong or Brazilian depending on what I’m wearing. I hate vpl and I find thongs very comfortable, the key is to buy cotton I can’t think of anything worse than nylon undies.

Povertytrapped · 22/10/2024 07:01

My new favourites are sloggi long leg knickers - I got them to wear under dresses in the summer to prevent chub rub, but they are so soft and comfortable, and look lovely in a retro way, that I wear them most of the time now.

StamppotAndGravy · 22/10/2024 07:45

I wear grey cotton thongs, so basically granny thongs. I gave up on sexy knickers in my 20s because a) I still got plenty of sex even in ugly pants; and b) I was too busy having sex to do complicated laundry.

Same here!

Sorry, was trying to quote that I have never worn thongs but boy shorts! Think my quote failed.

Octavia64 · 22/10/2024 07:48

Late forties.

Bloody hate thongs.

Sloggi all the way for me.

unsync · 22/10/2024 08:16

Jeez, arseflossers? No thanks. One of the many benefits of age is you get to wear big, comfy pants. Peri-meno is not the time for a small gusset.

JaneFondue · 22/10/2024 08:21

Never worn thongs. Or heels. Even in my youth. Being uncomfortable is not sexy.

BigFatLiar · 22/10/2024 08:25

I tend to wear skirts and dresses so no issue with vpl. I'm 60+ and ever since complications after childbirth I've woren comfy knickers. You can still get comfy pants with a touch of lace etc.

Seasidewalker · 22/10/2024 08:36

Mid 50's used to wear thongs, gave up mid 40's.

Like PPs I tend to wear Brazilian briefs often from M&S.

Like another PP I buy 2 x knickers with a matching bra, I like matching underwear even though nobody else sees it! No nude or white, only bright colours to make me smile!

Post mastectomies, I can only wear wireless bras and that makes choice a bit limited although it is getting easier with more choice around.

Big pants are far less obvious.

The thing about wearing thongs to avoid VPL is that if the material is so thin your knickers will show, if you wear a thong your bare bum is obvious. You might think "great, no VPL"- but honestly, bare bum, it's not a good look.

Do you find that you can still wear a thong after a c-section? I found that it sits directly on the scar area and doesn’t feel comfy even years later, but maybe that’s just me.

You’ve got them on back to front 😀.

NewGreenDuck · 22/10/2024 08:43

I'm very mature (!), I've never worn thongs as the thought of them is off putting. However I have always worn what I would describe as pretty underwear. Nice colours, natural fabrics, just big enough to cover the essentials.

JaneFondue · 22/10/2024 08:46

Does anyone have a recco for nice cotton knickers? Used to wear M and S but the gussets shrank. Wirapa a bit too ugly even for me. Don't need to be sexy, just vaguely pretty.

Sloggi ( the budget end of Triumph) have a number of thongs in their range.

GettingStuffed · 22/10/2024 09:00

I've never worn thongs, they just don't feel right

AlisonDonut · 22/10/2024 09:02

Thongs?

I thought they went out of fashion in the 90s.

Bloody hell love. Get yourself some big pants and loaf out.

Let me answer my own query. Just looked at Tu Sainsbury's and they have some that look promising.

Shrinking gussets? What temperature are you washing at? Viscose is also a natural fibre, but has stretch. I’ve not had problems with shrinkage.

MrsKwazi · 22/10/2024 09:06

When I had my last baby 4 years ago I.bought those massive M&S ones to go over the scar and take a maternity pad.
Have never stopped wearing them 🙈
It’s just so comfortable and actually no vpl as your bum is totally covered by the knicker so the line is v low, if that makes sense.
Sexy knickers are overrated - cotton comfort all the way!
