I would say wrap dresses are the most flattering

Florally · 09/09/2024 22:34

I don’t think a 14 is fat.

coxesorangepippin · 09/09/2024 22:34

Pencil skirt, tucked in top, high heels

Preferably black

Moonshine5 · 09/09/2024 22:36

Confidence and clothes you love

I don’t think a 14 is fat.

It's not fat because it's a dress size.

But people can be fat at size 14 of course.

Especially if they're around 5 feet or under. It also depends on where we carry our weight.

Malcevine · 09/09/2024 22:43

I think it depends where you carry your weight and what parts you want to highlight. If it’s dinner you’ll mostly be sitting down and your date will see your top half so maybe focus on a top/blouse/dress. You could show a hint of cleavage, or a bare shoulder.

personally I wouldn’t wear a pencil skirt, tucked in top and heels as my tummy is big and that outfit would look awful, plus I’d feel like I was on the apprentice. I’m a 14 too and I like shirt dresses, or a silk shirt and jeans with good earrings.

I'm 5,2 and carry my weight on my stomach. 50s style dresses are flattering or wrap or faux wrap style - go for knee length if you're happy to show off your calves.

If you're not keen on the style above - something like this is a bit less dramatic!

The most important thing is you feel good because then that will shine through. I hope you have a lovely time!

Thanks x

What sort of budget do you have in mind,@pnutter?

From your description of yourself I’d say this

Klements dress

would fit the bill. Tremendously flattering - pure silk cut to skim over the body; both dressy and fun - the sleeves will keep falling away from your wrists …

But I don’t know how much you want to spend.

Garlictest · 10/09/2024 07:06

This is a sweet dress and comfy to wear. Comes in loads of colours. £38.

That is cute.

Bright red lipstick. And a small winged eyeliner look. I’m still to master the eyeliner…

I don’t think a 14 is fat.

It depends on one's height / build etc., but most women wearing a dress size 14 would be overweight. I'm 5'6" and can still fit into a size 12 at 11st 3lb, which is overweight for my height. I'm not athletic either so at that weight, yeah I'm a bit fat. I reckon I could be almost a stone over that and still fit a size 14 - I'd almost be obese and so would definitely be fat at that weight!

Unsurprisingly I love that. The tortoise shell version does look like fire- quite extraodinary.
The wisteria version is gorgeous too.

Best suggestion so far. Fits the brief (unlike that tortoiseshell/wisteria frumptastic monstrosity).

I think try to feel like a sexy confident version of yourself, which if you're always in gardening gear, probably isn't going to be heels and a tight dress. You don't want to go wobbling into the restaurant all trussed up in a pair of Spanx unable to relax because you feel like someone else. Not saucy.

I'd get a silk shirt, without any pockets on the chest, bottom half I would go for jeans and boots. Bright lipstick or gloss, a manicure and a blow dry. Get a new lacy bra and matching knickers. Have fun!

That is cute.

It's cute, and it's sweet, but it is not saucy.

Singleandproud · 11/09/2024 10:02

Good underwear IE not your Bridget Jones' I think it gives you a secret boost and air of confidence.
