How do you dress to look slightly saucy at a 14 + not tarty
For a dinner date

Pencil skirts are absolutely not out. And neither is a kitten heel. Both firmly back in.

I would wear a leather pencil wrap skirt with a tucked in silk cami and either kitten heel mules or kitten heel knee high boots depending on the weather. Lots of tactile fabrics will make it look more “saucy”.
Nothing posted above could be construed as sexy - as a rule avoid frills/prints and keep outfits streamlined and skimming over curves to hug them. The kitten heel gives you a wiggle (decidedly not a wobble!)

eeeek yeah this is another outfit I would very much avoid!

poor op is probably more confused than ever 🙈

Btw CONGRATS on your date, feeling special and for managing cancer op. You got this. 💅

Velvetandgold · 11/09/2024 14:55

I've got a leather pencil skirt and flat knee high boots and wear with a polo neck jumper and I don't look remotely like a hooker you weirdo 😆

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/09/2024 14:56

Kitten heels are never, ever “in”

Regardless of anything else on the thread, that's just flat out wrong.

Velvetandgold · 11/09/2024 14:59

True Castle
Don't think that other poster has the first clue about fashion.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree there. Plenty of my very stylish contemporaries feel the same, they are the height of naff and early 2000s. If you mean low block heels then they’re fine, but the “traditional” mini stiletto kitten heels are as awful as they always have been.

It's cute, and it's sweet, but it is not saucy.

It's boring.

Genuine question - don’t men (at least the intelligent ones) prefer women who look as if they know which century and decade they’re living in?

If my date turned up dressed as if he had no idea of, nor access to prevailing trends in clothing, it would be a definite ick for me. I don’t mean straight off the Balenciaga catwalk, but at least in keeping with contemporary ideas around formality / informality when dining out in the UK.

No, many don't. Plenty of intelligent men have no interest in fashion, either for themselves or their spouses.

This can't be surprising.

Personally I don't need a fashionable man.

No - I didn’t say ‘know about fashion’. I meant recognising that a woman was dressed as a cliche of ‘woman on a dinner date dressed to seduce’. The younger men I know (work / family) would genuinely be flabbergasted if a date turned up in a tight black dress and heels. It would look like cosplay to them - and imply a lack of confidence or individuality.

OMG we are back in the 90s.

I'd wear a loose fitting dress similar to the Klements ones in style, though I don't like those prints so would orobsbly go for navy or a solid colour. Or I might wear a silk shirt and very well cut trousers with boots.

Either of these would make me feel confident though perhaps not saucy enough. I am not keen on showing cleavage. Less is more.

CharlotteBog · 11/09/2024 15:32

I have it on good authority (shoe designer) that kitten heels are in!
I go to her ideas for the one event of the year I dress up for and she's suggested wide leg trousers, a blouse (possibly pussy bow, though I prefer a smoother look) and kitten heels.

go wobbling into the restaurant

Bit rude

Why? High heels can make you wobble if not used to them.

What you think of them is irrelevant.
Do a bit of Googling and you'll see.

I agree with this on one level. Nobody seems to wear a tight black dress and heels anymore.

Personally I wouldn't wear either, or a pencil skirt, because I wouldnt be comfortable in them and for me comfortable is sexy.

Yeah, that'll get you laid.

Did OP say she wanted to get laid though.

Something like this -

Garlictest · 11/09/2024 16:39

😂 @DeCaray, that IS saucy!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 11/09/2024 00:27

Unsurprisingly I love that. The tortoise shell version does look like fire- quite extraodinary.
The wisteria version is gorgeous too.
Klements Morhav Wisteria dress

That looks like a naff curtain from the 90s imo, not exactly saucy

Nah. Most men may call a spade a spade and a tent a..tent!

(Or a naff curtain, just saw pp)

Also, they’d be staggered that their date paid nearly £300 for a tent/curtain I think.

no, they are very much ‘in and have been for the past season.

Usually worn with loose denim or capris.

Yes, they are 2000s. That is the point. if the y2k obsession has just passed you by, you and your stylish contemporaries are not really as up to date as you think.

fwiw- it’s not a trend I can get hugely behind, I don’t like the look myself- I prefer a chunky shoe. But they are indeed ‘in’

You're confusing "I don't like" with "what is currently fashionable"

Whereas I hate chunky, clumpy heels. I never wear them, no matter how fashionable they might be.

Fortunately LK Bennett, Manolo Blahnik and I'm sure others will continue to sell ballet pumps and low kitten heels year after year.

This is a sweet dress and comfy to wear. Comes in loads of colours. £38.

Edited

That looks a nice dress. Especially if you aren't too tall and plenty of scope for dressing up/down.

I don't think the Klements dresses are the kind of thing to wear on a first date really. You want your date to be looking at you rather than your 'interesting' dress.
