With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

Ummm, I know it’s not getting a lot of love on here this year, but the more I look at it, the more I’m being drawn to the Vogue calendar There’s a lot in there I’d be happy to use/try out. Love the Votary Star serum and Verden bath oil. Would like to try the Tatcha eye cream as it appears to address lines and wrinkles as opposed to dark circles and puffiness, which most eye creams seem to do now. The BS sun drops sound interesting, as does the vibrating face tool thingy. I like the look of the earrings and the silk scarf (I know, I’m alone in that 😂). The makeup appears to be quite neutral, which I see as a bonus. Always happy to try a new fragrance too. Oh yes and the cashmere socks 😊. DoDs would be the eye mask, playing cards and that Foreo face cleaning device (sounds like a faff). I really need to think on this………..

QueefofSheena · 09/09/2024 09:00

Has Mac revealed anything yet? Not just the AC, I’m keen to see their Christmas range. 2022 was nicer than last year.

wheresmyshoe · 09/09/2024 09:03

I tried the Bader serum that came in either the Liberty kit or GWP last night. It has had a dramatic positive effect, so much so I actually feel justified in getting a calendar that contains it...
I've spotted it in SpaceNK, do any of you with better memories than me remember seeing it in any other calendars before I trawl through them?

IDontHateRainbows · 09/09/2024 09:24

I'm beyond excited - Harrods AC is coming today at 10.30-11.30. Will be unboxing straight away so will update

NeverEverSure86 · 09/09/2024 09:28

@Sunnydaysarehereonceagain you’re not alone. I looked up the earrings on Completeworks site and I really like the look of them. I like silk scarves, I’m just not good in tying them up and styling them.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/09/2024 09:34

I really do want the SpaceNK, but I also really want a Balsam Hill tree, so I'm considering going without an advent calendar this year, or getting the F&M tea one to share with my husband.

I don't know what to do!

CalicoPusscat · 09/09/2024 09:57

Loose or tea bag F&M? If tea bag you could get that, the tree, and a couple of favourite items from SpaceNK, which ones do you like?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/09/2024 10:13

The F&M tea and biscuit one looks amazing.

paristotokyo · 09/09/2024 10:25

@wheresmyshoe there's some on ebay/vinted if you wanted to pick up another? Would be much cheaper

Therightcoffee · 09/09/2024 10:55

Oooh @OchonAgusOchonOh I saw that and nearly posted, the tea and biscuits f&m calendar looks great

wheresmyshoe · 09/09/2024 11:00

Excellent idea @paristotokyo thank you

Peridot1 · 09/09/2024 11:03

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee - Balsam Hill do a great sale after Christmas………

IDontHateRainbows · 09/09/2024 11:12

Unboxed the Harrods AC. Seems good value for the money, so I'm glad I got it. I'm a bit annoyed there is only one perfume. Obviously they have the fragrance calendar but that's sold out now. There's a lovely Tom Ford lipstick in a neutral colour. Other top picks - La Mer lip volumiser. Will open and try them over the coming weeks but not all at once!

IDontHateRainbows · 09/09/2024 11:13

I tell a lie - there is another perfume - a byredo one

Stowickthevast · 09/09/2024 11:16

@Sunnydaysarehereonceagain I'm tempted by it too.

But tootling off to look at F&M tea & biscuits now.

As a random calendar, I really rate the Bonne Maman jam one, loads of unusual flavours that I wish they would do in full size.

wheresmyshoe · 09/09/2024 11:38

I've noticed pre-orders for Degustabox are open.

Picnics27 · 09/09/2024 11:42

ordered the Clarins men’s advent calendar and it automatically added the Clarins showstopper for free. I also added a £10 hand cream which allowed me to choose a free gift worth up to £43.
ended up with the men’s advent calendar, showstopper, 30ml hand cream, super restorative gift set and 3 samples for £95 including delivery

Puravida23 · 09/09/2024 11:43

Any Espa fans the code BDLF gets you 21% off the advent calendar on Look Fantastic bringing the advent down from £175 to £131.25 but I find these codes only work for a limited time sometimes only hours it seems . It just worked for me now though

Theresalotgoingon · 09/09/2024 12:06

Hi, this is my first time posting - I’ve been following this thread (and the first one) avidly and thank you to everyone for all the helpful information! I have a question …. I have done a spreadsheet of my favourite ACs (Space NK, Harrods and Liberty) to try and formulate an answer to the best one for me (overthinker!).

On the Liberty website it labels 18 full size items but when I check the products for their value and info you can’t actually buy some of those items in that size eg Sam McKnight Treatment Mask is only available to buy in 200ml not the 50ml in the AC. Also Augustine Bader Rich cream only available in 100ml not 15ml…

I know I am seriously overthinking but it’s frustrating when it advertises 18 full sized items but they’re not…. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there some advertising rule that allows them to do this eg minimum product size? Thank you!

JudgeBurrito · 09/09/2024 12:17

@Theresalotgoingon They might not be available on the Liberty site but you can buy them in those sizes on e.g Sephora or Cult Beauty. I guess they're still making it clear the sizes they're selling (i.e. they're not listing AB cream as 100ml and giving you 15ml) so they're probably not doing anything wrong. You just have to keep your wits about you. You will never get 100ml AB cream in any calendar, 15ml is standard.

Just tried this and before I got to pay, they took the showstopper out of my basket so must have realised there was a glitch. Hope they honour yours!

Stoic123 · 09/09/2024 12:31

Not posted so far this year but was active last year - good to see a lot of returners.

Gone for Harrods Beauty calendar this year. I'm a fan of Bioeffect EGF, Elemis Marine Oil and AA Bath Oil. Also fancied trying the AB Retinol Serum. Would probably spend about £140-150 on eBay for those so an extra £100 for the joy of opening and discovering one or two new things I like is worth it. Will open in December.

Main lesson learnt from previous years is to quickly give away/sell anything that doen't appeal. My beauty stash has really gone down this year and I want to keep it contained.

Aww no! Sorry it didn’t work for you. Time will tell if they honour them anyway

Theresalotgoingon · 09/09/2024 12:57

Oh that makes sense, I didn’t check anywhere else. It’s just so I can work out if I can put the bits I don’t want on Vinted and what sort of value they are - particularly the AB as I don’t want it!

The best guide to value is the prices of similar items. I always buy the cheapest and the difference in pricing is wild. Some people really take the piss.
