Beauty advent calendars 2024 #2

With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

@BakeOffRewatch I had one of those clarisonics and I went to get a facial and the facility was appalled at the dehydrated overcleansed state of my skin...it's been in the drawer since then!

I always tell the dc that you have to make sure the skin advice is right for your skin - dare say this w electric cleansers are great for someone...

For me, I'm not keen on Floral Street - I've had the sampler set so have tried nearly the whole range. I'm not arguing re their quality, just my personal taste. I did try Beauty Pie Brazilian Lime when it was first released. Created by Frank Voekl (creator of Santal 33, many Le Labos and Glossier You) and I was very disappointed. It had very little sillage and longevity. I know that citrus scents often do not last very long, but the performance was poor.
I'd look at Fragrantica and try different scents by a favourite perfumer, but I wouldn't expect them all to be the same quality. (If they are it's a brilliant bonus & please share them on here.)

Selfridges calendar looks very uninspiring so that's a no from me.

The Next luxury calendar is £170 which is a better price point but I'm not convinced of the value for money looking at the contents.

Morning all, I have just watched an unboxing video for the ASOS calendar here:

Two things struck me:

Firstly - I actually really like the look of some of these products now I have seen them unboxed ‘irl’ and am quite tempted.

My personal DoD:
The Revolution palette
The pale pink blush thing
All the - many - oat products😹
The REN tonic - just no🙀

Secondly - half the a/c was soaked with shower oil as the product in one box had been put in upside down with the top left open. It’s difficult to see how this could have been accidental, (especially when the YouTuber mentioned that many of the other products had been put in upside down too), as the product in question - I have it - has a really secure top!

I hope she complains and gets a refund, but I also hope that it was accidental and not a disgruntled employee at the packing stage. Given how many beauty products in a/c in particular are not sealed, I really don’t like to think of tampering.

What I am trying to say is:

Probably best to check/have someone else check a/c contents before 1/12 so that you can get onto CS asap in the event of problems, (I know this has been mentioned previously). Maybe pay special attention if buying the ASOS a/c.

Space NK looks great, but more than I wanted to spend.

I’m pinning everything on Boots. If not, I’m going to need a different amazing advent calendar. Any suggestions? I’ve got the Paxton and Whitfield for DH.

I’m a bit tempted by White Company. It’s £70 and I do like their fragrances.

Where have you seen the White Company calendar for £70? I have only seen it for £175 but might be tempted if you can get it for £70 😃

Dior looks amazing but ‘The Trunk of Dreams’ is a bit clunky!

My sister had the White Company advent a few years back. She was a little disappointed as it was full of mini hand and body washes with a few mini candles.
I would get it for £70 but not at the full price.

BTW: I had to google the definition of: ‘lithophane’ from the Dior list of contents.

From memory the White Company gets discounted - obviously it’s overpriced every year.

So we're still waiting for details of Boots Premium, OK, Space NK Fragrance (if they're doing one this year), Elle (ditto). Any others?

Just had a little look on EBay and it seems the listings for the Harrods fragrance advent have already started. This one is up for £600! 😮

There were a few last week for £700. (I may have been naughty and watched a couple so they thought they had a chance! 🤣)

Yes..and I haven’t even had an update on mine…still processing!

My SIL had White Company a couple of years ago and found the bag she'd put the sample size products in in a cupboard a couple of weeks ago 😆 I do like their candles, DB usually buys me one for Christmas.

Torn between Selfridges and Harrods now Vogue is a bust. Or I might just give up and order this :)

I watched that last night @IlovePond not a fab PR moment for asos either! I think several people said they wouldn’t buy due to this.
Also the lip liner or eye liner in CB seems damaged or broken on opening. If anyone has CB I’d definitely check that. Such a shame we have to check these things, remembering Harrods shampoo and conditioner debacle of last year!
