Beauty advent calendars 2024 #2

With just under 3 months to go until 1 December, there are some big decisions to be made! Thread to discuss advent calendars while we wait for more content revelations and release dates.

I did see a couple last year but they either had too much make up or they didn't include excise, vat etc and I would have been hammered with import charges.

For those who have joined the waitlist for Space NK, did you get email confirmation? It said to go up the list you could share the calendar details with 2 friends, which I did (on a couple of platforms) but I’ve not had anything so how do I know if it’s worked?

I'll check them out although I think Stylevana don't include customs charges etc. in the price.

I’ve just bitten the bullet and ordered cult beauty scent with love. Might get John Lewis too but nothing really doing it for me this year. I know I’d be missing out in December and be upset if I didn’t get one and Cult appealed most. I got Space NK last year and it was amazing but I’m not feeling it this year.

YesStyle is where I usually buy my K Beauty stuff as they include customs charges in the price. I did consider that one last year but it was too make-up heavy.

I generally only wear make-up if I'm going out out or on days I go in to the office which probably averages out at 1-2 days a week. That means I have enough make-up to see me out and then some so I really don't need any more although a nice eye liner or something is always acceptable.

I joined the waitlist but did not get any confirmation.

Anyone have an idea when the Space NK is going on sale?

I've got the cult beauty one over the past few years and decided for a change this year. How popular is the Space NK, is it likely to sell.oit quickly?

I loved these threads last year. I couldn't understand why no one on here was talking about advent calendars but had been looking in 'Shopping' rather than 'Style and beauty'!! Glad I've found the thread now even though I've had to read 100s of pages to catch up 🤣 I'm liking the look of JL at the moment. LF looks good this year too. I loved M&S too last year but agree with previous poster that I'm going to consider that one a gift with purchase!

I'm.going for LF this year. I'll use pretty much everything and what I won't use I know teen dd would really like in her Xmas stocking.

I'm late to these threads this year! Last year I bought Vogue for a luxurious treat! I absolutely loved it. I use my silk eye mask daily, the earrings became a staple and the cashmere socks were a revelation. That's not to mention the creams etc

This years offering seems rubbish in comparison! I think I will be buying m+s and filling the drawers of last year's vogue with them.

I think it’s 12th September. This is my first year splurging so I’m not sure about demand.
I am still tempted by the Harrods one but I’m put off by the fragrance calendar debacle

I bought the Stylevana calendar last year and thought it was great. All great sizes in stuff that I've never tried before.

I didn't have any issues with delivery. No customs charges and it arrived within a week. Maybe it's different in Ireland though.

@MidnightMeltdown I'll message them and confirm but when I checked previously they said shipments were subject to local customs. Mind you, I'm sure I could work out and charges in advance and see is it still worth it.

Was they much makeup in the one you got last year?

No it was mostly skincare. I think there were only 3 makeup items - a brown mascara which I gave away, a pink liquid eyeshadow and a liquid blush

That sounds like what I would like. I'll figure out the customs charges and build it in to my decision when it comes out.

On a side note, I got a brown Eyeko mascara in the M&S calendar a few years ago and liked it so much I have repurchased despite wearing black forever. It's great for work.

I think brown works if you've got light coloured eyelashes, but my eyelashes are naturally black, so I think it would look a bit weird to put brown mascara over them.

Dd has black eyelashes of which I am envious. They frame the eyes so much better than my lighter ones.

I bought the vogue calendar. I didn’t get it last year so don’t have that comparison to be disappointed by and I don’t do a full review of items but did have a quick glance and I like the socks and playing cards - appreciate this makes me an outlier!

One thing that I really liked about the Stylevana calendar is that everything has an expiry date on it, so I know how old stuff is and when it needs to be used by.

Usually, you never know how long things have been hanging around before you buy them, and I'm always suspicious about stores trying to palm off old stock in advent calendars

Just ordered H&B for my dil. She should be getting it next Tuesday (ish). It's got to be an annual tradition now, along with the Lindor for my son and pet ones for their dog and cats.

I'm still holding out for Boots and waiting delivery of the Harrods fragrance. (Whenever that may be)

I have black lashes. The dark brown Eyeko mascara from the M&S AC looked fine on me.

I ordered H&B collection from store and received an email saying estimated date is today so wonder what time it will be there...

I'll be in the centre this morning but if it arrives afternoon then I'll have to pick it up tomorrow.

For me there is definitely element of buying advents for years, and knowing what I like and what I don't for skincare and makeup. That makes it harder to want one this year. I don't want to buy things that end up waste either, and while 10 years ago I felt there is no issues to buy avent and toss half of the items as I am getting my money worth anyway, we are all now more environmentally aware and this will not be enjoyable for me at all. When I see 5 full size products I know I don't want to use and I know I am not one that will deal with finding new owner - it just puts me off even if I like the rest.

I am interested in perfume, hair care, body care etc but with black friday cyber monday you can get up to 30% off - I can buy few things. I am still going to keep an eye, there are few more to come out

I really wish I didn't stock up on face products from Space NK recently as their advent have few of my favourite products but I just don't need backup of backup type of set up.

Jo Malone - I think there is one scent that I don't know due to having the advent before. The 30ml choice for this year was in 9ml form last year and it's one of my favourites. For first timer, it really is fab way to get to know all scents but once you know them - the old theme again harder to justify buying again.

Catching up properly today. I forwarded the Vogue pre-order email to DH before I checked the contents then asked him to hold his horses! I didn't have it last year and actually quite like cashmere socks and silk eye mask - although would only use it for long haul flights/camping, so maybe 3 nights a year at best.

I think I need to do a hard comparison today and go through contents for Space NK, Libertys, F&M, Harrods & Vogue, and decide which works best. I'm also intrigued by Stylevana.

That's a definite plus. It would definitely be helpful to know which should be used up first.
