How many dresses do you have?

I met up with an old friend a few weeks ago for a lunch in John Lewis. We got onto the subject of how many dresses we possess in our wardrobe. My friend said she thought she owned about 8. I was shocked and felt I owned around 30 dresses minimum.

We both went home and counted up our dresses. I had 40 dresses and my friend just 20. So we were both inaccurate. 2 I haven't even worn yet!

I felt so guilty I donated 8 dresses to charity toute suite! My friend has never been that materialistic or shallow despite earning a handsome salary (60k) and she said she wd get rid of a few.

How many dresses do you all possess out of interest? I now have 32 hanging in my wardrobe....! How many is too many?

I have loads of dresses, day, evening casual and dress up. Love dresses, never wear jeans.

I love dresses, probably own about 30 to 40, maybe more, but a lot of them look the same or similar - very long, mostly A-line pinafore style in linen and a few checked crinkle cotton smocked ones from Toast. I'm 60 but I don't suit grown up dresses or party frocks or anything floral. I favour deep muted shades like charcoal, purple or dark olive, sometimes navy and always a lot of black. I wear the pinafores over stripey tops and leggings with long lace up (flat heeled) leather boots. Style I suppose Goth/Hippy/Witch.

My style has been the same since I was about 14 or 15 but I also used to wear jeans a lot with tunic dresses over. Somehow I can't wear jeans since the menopause; even though I'm only size 10/12 I now hate my belly being constricted so I am in ankle length frocks every single day. Even for walking the dog. I just love dresses!

@KateDelRick I'm rather curious as to why you automatically think of dresses as floral and tiered... Some frock devotees are more Morticia Addams than Miriam Margolyes 😜

Lots. But I’ve only got 1 pair of jeans and no trousers.

Guessed 10, counted 14. Might need to buy more dresses!

Just been counting. Including those in the washing basket, 17. But dresses are my day to day go to. That includes winter weight ones. Although l sometimes go for a skirt and a top, l rarely wear jeans and less so trousers. Exception being when the weather is freezing.

About 60.
But 30 of those are at my villa in the Canaries.
At home l have summer dresses.. Autumn dresses and winter dresses l wear with tights.
I prefer dresses to trousers.

I only really wear dresses. Absolutely hate jeans...find leggings look too casual. Hardly ever find a skirt or pair of trousers which suits me.

I used to have loads as worked in smart office & dresses were my go to outfit.

Then post Covid I sold them all on Vinted (I had also had a baby and changed shape a bit).

Now I have a new approach-

Now rather than accumulating numerous dresses, I buy one off Vinted / charity shop, wear it a few times, sell it on . I only keep my absolute favourites long term.

Probably about 20. I used to wear them all the time. Most of them aren’t suitable now because they’re not breastfeeding friendly. I probably should donate some.

I have a lot !! But I only ever wear dresses for work, and usually throughout the summer, I have dresses in so many sizes as I struggle to maintain a healthy weight. But I only have 2 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of shorts, I one pair of linen trousers

One which I picked up yesterday and am still thinking about; 2 which are on the rail to probably go to Vinted , and a couple which are likely on their last summer.

All but one I would consider very casual.

I'd guess I have around 30-40..they're not all out at the same time. I am about to have a clear out, have sold a few, and will charity-shop more. But I mainly wear dresses, am not far off retirement so don't want to chuck anything that might be useful in the future. I'm sad I can't wear short dresses anymore, and wearing them with leggings doesn't feel very chic, so those will have to go.

Ten. However I have culled my wardrobe and sold loads on Vinted.

If it doesn't fit or I haven't worn it for a year out it goes.

I'd guess at 150. I don't wear trousers and hardly ever skirts.

Work
Daytime
Socialising
Dancing
Non work events
Weddings etc
Weekends

Some of you must have much bigger wardrobes than me

Around 12- I'm actually off to buy some more! I rarely wear jeans/trousers and I've lost quite a lot of weight this year so I sold all of my old dresses on vinted. What is left is now too summery as the weather has definitely cooled down here so it's time to go shopping.

I counted up at Easter and realised I had 44 - dresses are all I wear in summer and winter and for lounging around the house.

I decided it was too many and sold 20 on Vinted which felt great.

Unfortunately I am now addicted to Vinted and keep stumbling across lovely cheap dresses so my number is creeping up again!

I have over 100 - I recently counted as my friend and I had a similar conversation.

I have a few I've had for years but constantly change others - donate to charity or sell on Vinted and buy from charity or Vinted. I probably around 10 with tags still on at the moment waiting for the right occasion. I have the space and the moment and I buy 90% second hand. Don't understand where any guilt would come from.

I have lots of all clothes, probably hundreds of all of pairs of trousers, t-shirts and jumpers/cardigans. Plus work clothes. At least 30 coats and jackets, maybe more. 🤷🏻‍♀️
