AW 24, what’s in style?

Any predictions as to what is going to be on trend for 40 somethings this autumn and winter?

I used to live reading style magazines for the new season but haven’t bought one for years!

Wintery pastels or rich jewel tones? Black and white monochromes?

I’m hoping chunky jumpers and comfortable trousers are on the menu!

(ultimately I wear what I want, but I like to feel stylish when I can!)

Hmmmmm
my friend has a little leather backpack with leopard print pockets, I could be tempted.
olive green is my favourite colour so I’ll stock up!

Badatmostthings · 12/08/2024 18:30

Great thread. But...how on earth do you translate what you see in Vogue/catwalks to what's on the high street?! Is it a skill you can learn?!

TheLeadbetterLife · 12/08/2024 18:32

There’s a very specific shade of wine red that I’ve been trying, and failing, to find a jumper in for years. Maybe this time I’ll be lucky…

henlake7 · 12/08/2024 19:00

If olive green is similar enough to army green then I should be set. I have tons in this colour including a long coat and a blazer.
Also have a plaid blazer and trenchcoat not to mention numerous bits of leopard print kicking about.

(I should point out I bought them with no thoughts of fashion....I just like what I like!).

I want everything in Envoy of Belfast but I especially want the tweed jacket and the black dress.

I have a Casey Casey double rideux skirt in a sort of army camouflage and I love this one

I don't like "jewel colours"- the pharse maked makes me think of Bombshell dresses. I don't like animal print.

Who What Wear says chunky knits, jewel tones, tartan, wide leg trousers, which makes me feel very Miranda Priestley (jewel tones, for fall? Groundbreaking.)

I think that I may be in love with you for quoting Miranda Priestley.

Where are these boots from please?

Busted … Grin

(Though in truth anything Guidi resides mainly in my fantasy wardrobe.)

They are gorgeous boots. Most of my selection is fantasy too.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 12/08/2024 22:28

Tartan wide leg trousers are more Bay City Rollers than Miranda Priestley. And as for the cloven-hoof shoes. 😂

Theremedy · 12/08/2024 22:55

I read that “country estate” was going to be a thing, so tweeds and herringbone (love herringbone). Might dress like Diana at Balmoral in season 4 of The Crown. I have the country boots already!

Some hideous clothes for winter then Grin

I've seen long kilts, long denim skirts, wide legged jeans. Nothing very colourful.

Tabi shoes, based on shoes worn in Japan, and a staple design by Margiela. (Although not those pictured).

This style shoe has been a around the mainstream for a while now. Nike has made them - Air Rifts - for two decades now.

It's a quote from a Vine...

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/08/2024 23:50

More animal print? Is that because they want people to replace the ten year old stuff now?

Something new, please.

Izzynohopanda · 13/08/2024 01:33

Went into a larger Next store at the weekend, and what hit me was the amount of red clothing they had.

InTheBleakMidsummer · 13/08/2024 07:12

Now, this is what I meant about new proportions. Don’t think I’ve ever considered this exact combination of shapes before - and I so want to find myself striding down the street in this outfit (with perhaps an added tweed jacket) on the first day of autumn:

I can do country estate. I am not wearing pig trotter shoes though!
