Does nobody wear slip any more?

I have 3 slips, a mini skirt style one, a midi dress style and a long maxi one. I would never ever wear a dress or skirt without a slip underneath, unless it's really well lined. It smoothes out lumps and bumps, makes the dress less see through if light in colour, and stops it from getting stuck up my bottom if I stand up. I see so many dresses from behind that would look so much better with a slip underneath. Have slips been confided to history? Is it like wearing a corset, codpiece or hoop under my dress?

Has anyone ever found a ‘trouser slip’? I have bought a linen suit, but the jacket is lined and the trousers not - So of course they appear slightly different. It miffs me because the men’s equivalent suit has both halves lined, of course

I’m hoping to get them lined if I can do it without selling a kidney. But Amazon has under
-trousers if I can call them that. I’m just not sure of the quality

Stop press, they do exist

For some reason my phone isn't allowing images

The former are actual long trouser slips

The second are silk long johns

If you want a silk slip, Sulis Silks, Silky Silks and Lilysilk all have cheaper options than Brora, though it depends how much out of your budget it is. (The slips and half-slips I have are all silk.)

I've worn slips since I was in my twenties, dunno what's old lady about it. They just make clothes look better and more expensive. And they make tight clothes less, um, anatomically correct.

And if you're bothered about such things, as I assume people are if they're worried about looking elderly - all I can say is, me in a slip is a darn sight more appealing than me in just bra and pants.

If slips shock you, prepare to be stunned as I reveal I sometimes wear a silk cami under clingy tops like tshirts. Has to be silk or something slithery though, not jersey.

Has anyone else found the Sulis Silk ebay store & put in an order?
Or is it only me ...

No, but I’ve ordered a slip from M&S to wear under a dress for a wedding next month, when I’d never have even considered one before!

I've ordered from their website a number of times. I got good customer service from them when I enquired about bra sizes once, as well.

Oh thank you Dyson. I’d actually found the Amazon ones, and thought they might be a bit sweaty, but the silk ones are interesting

dazzlingdeborahrose · 20/08/2024 19:13

I do. Get them in Marks. This is one of those areas where your granny was right. They help a dress out immensely. They stop it clinging and so lumps and bumps are greatly minimised. The dress just skims over them. I resisted for years. I'm a convert.

I think Tommy Hilfiger should have read this thread, looking at the red dress in the photo:

Yep! I wear them - though they were quite hard to source (M&S came up trumps - full and half slips) I don't wear them with every dress but I do find they help dresses sit better. Plus so many dresses these days are unlined and see through material so I feel better with one underneath (though if I wear a well lined dress I trend not to wear a slip)

Me too! I also wear the satiney type vests and/or bodysuits underneath tops.

Ha- that's the least offensive there but agree no one wants to wear a Fanny muncher.
