Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

It would be nice to escape the idea we have to wear clothes which 'flatter' us, i.e. make us look tall and thin.

ClairDeLaLune · 07/07/2024 10:34

Notgivingup54 · 07/07/2024 10:06

If only women could get past criticising each other.

^^ this with bells on. You don’t generally get men indulging in this nasty bitchy shit. She can wear what she wants, and good for her.

Corinthiana · 07/07/2024 10:35

@sunshinegrey you're right, this is S&B and you've not been offensive. We're discussing clothes. Not one person has criticised Akshata personally.

You don't get men indulging in "nasty, bitchy shit"? Really? I don't think men are morally superior at all. They are not a saintly sex compared to us.

What a bizarre thing to say - most patterned dress fabric would look ridiculous as a suit.

I'm referring to the fabric of that particular dress as you well know.

anyolddinosaur · 07/07/2024 10:38

Criticising someone else's clothing choices when they are not offensive, just not your taste, does make you a bad person.

EllisEllisBoom · 07/07/2024 10:38

heldinadream · 07/07/2024 10:09

Very hard to choose the right dress/clothes for that particular occasion. On the world stage but in the background like a prop. Needing to be silent and dignified. Knowing full well that whatever she wears will be talked about. Everyone knows she's rich - so should she spend a lot and be accused of rubbing people's face in it, or not a lot and be accused of pretending to be slumming it?

It's a hand made dress by an Indian designer, which is a perfect choice for her heritage and supporting a small designer of her choice. It's both modest and striking and as someone else pointed out it's red, white and blue.

I think she got it right.

I was going to ramble on, but the quote above says everything.

Curious to know if a £500 brolly will actually stay up. I gave up on them decades ago.

Why does it make you a bad person?

BluebirdBoogie · 07/07/2024 10:40

I'm with you OP. I thought it was hideous and didn't suit her at all.

And as for not criticising other women, I feel absolutely no solidarity with a multi-billionaire, right-wing, pull the ladder up person like her, woman or not.

DoreenonTill8 · 07/07/2024 10:40

Peoneve · 07/07/2024 09:58

I thought that she looked lovely as usual

lets see a picture of what you are wearing today?

Yep. Shock news, woman wears dress she likes. How very dare she!

AmelieTaylor · 07/07/2024 10:40

TitusMoan · 07/07/2024 10:12

Never mind the dress… the umbrella was £500 !

Bloody hell £500 for an umbrella??

I suppose it's pennies when your non dom

oh & the dress is hideous.

DoreenonTill8 · 07/07/2024 10:43

sunshinegrey · 07/07/2024 10:32

Careful now, people will be passive agressive nasty because you happended to not like a dress and say it out loud

I thouth style & beauty was one of the safest corners of MN

In my posts I never said a bad word about this woman but alluded to her money and choices - somehow this makes me a bad person

I’m sure if wasn’t for the politics and this was a random person, the tone of the responses would be much different

So if you just posted a pic of a random rich person in a dress and insulted her, you'd hope everyone would agree and say 'yeah she looks hideous, how could she!!' ?

Because she likes it and doesn't need validation from anyone?

This 🖕🏻Do we really get anything out of tearing other women’s appearances down OP? Have you nothing better to do this morning? I wouldn’t choose the dress but I also think it suits her and good for her.

As much as I hate the tories I really like it and think that she wears it well. I love the colours, the pattern, the cut and the boldness. She could have faded into the background with a navy two piece but chose to stand out.

She possibly is one of the most beautiful and stylish women to have graced Downing Street imo.

Part of me thinks this is modern power dressing and her showing her husband and the public that she is strong and powerful.

Corinthiana · 07/07/2024 10:46

I'm always amazed that some women think men are morally superior because they don't discuss style. They do, and they are not.

Show us where she's been torn down.

LadyPoison · 07/07/2024 10:47

It’s not a dress I would choose or wear.

Fintoo · 07/07/2024 10:48

I’m baffled by all the threads about this dress. It’s not particularly outrageous in any way.

TheMarzipanDildo · 07/07/2024 10:50

Kick her when she’s down why don’t you!

LakeTiticaca · 07/07/2024 10:50

Well yesterday people were ridiculing Ange in her Showaddywaddy suit so it sauce for the goose I guess 😆
