If you have all the money in world why would wear this?

Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

I really like the skirt but would have lowered the neck and added a red section at the top to balance the bottom. It's still lovely and suitable for the occasion with red and blue.

Saucery · 07/07/2024 10:51

It was perfectly chosen to both make her stand out and to conceal her. Like a costume for an event she’d rather not be at.

Buttoneyed · 07/07/2024 10:51

TheMarzipanDildo · 07/07/2024 10:50

Kick her when she’s down why don’t you!

I’m sure she’s fine 🙄

op I also don’t like the dress. Reminds me of a Tesco carrier bag from back in the day

Charlize43 · 07/07/2024 10:51

Each to their own, but it is far too busy for my taste.

For some reason, the blue & white stripes remind me of deckchairs & garden furniture & beach towels. I imagine she'd clash horrifically, if she sat on a deckchair...

It's also rather jarring and completely swamps her.

Lentilweaver · 07/07/2024 10:52

I don't like it but I am feeling a bit sorry for her because it caused such a reaction and spawned so many memes. I get the nod to her Indian heritage but there are some other nicer dresses on that site.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 07/07/2024 10:52

OP could have just asked what people's opinion on the dress was and said that she wasn't a fan of it. No need for the 'all the money in the world and she chose this' comment.
Also, it was not 'shockingly expensive' as someone said, it costs about £350 (unless you expect her to wear something from George at Asda).

spriots · 07/07/2024 10:52

Nothing against her but I agree the dress is absolutely fugly and unflattering

But TBH I think the same about virtually all current fashion.

@LadyKenya just for you ☺️

ominana.com/products/lina-dress

Tjank you for the link.
I have very little spare money, so this is way out of my price range. But this seems a very ethical business, sustainable, fair pay, hand made etc, £395 isn't actually outrageous for an outfit like that.
She has money and is chosing to spend it ethically, I don't think you can fault her for that.

summeroccupation · 07/07/2024 10:52

Christ haven't we moved past knocking other woman down?

Get a grip @sunshinegrey and move on with your day without being so mean!

sunshinegrey · 07/07/2024 10:32

Careful now, people will be passive agressive nasty because you happended to not like a dress and say it out loud

I thouth style & beauty was one of the safest corners of MN

In my posts I never said a bad word about this woman but alluded to her money and choices - somehow this makes me a bad person

I’m sure if wasn’t for the politics and this was a random person, the tone of the responses would be much different

@sunshinegrey but you surely knew it was a very emotive moment, irrelevant of political views? I think it’s unkind to comment on the outfit she chose at that moment. You also added a comment on her financial status.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/07/2024 10:53

The neckline makes me feel like I can't breathe properly, bit it's otherwise perfectly nice. No idea how much it cost

ChangingMyNameForThisOne · 07/07/2024 10:56

Why would she wear it? I'd say because she likes it. Fairly obvious really.

I like the dress and I think she looks lovely.

The only person IRL that I know who was slagging off her dress hates the Tories and going on about her dress is just an extension of that. I find her weird for that. She also sits round in pyjamas stained with bean juice....so.....

Money = choices

Her money is not a secret to anyone

I actually really like the dress, I think she’s very petite though and it looks like the dress is wearing her rather than the other way round.
But I like bold dresses. I also think she’s gone for an incredibly modestly priced dress tbh!

It’s a fabulous dress and if I had the budget, I’d be wearing it. LOVED the white block heels with it too - kept it very modern.

Dweetfidilove · 07/07/2024 10:57

She likes it.
It's a lovely dress.
A refreshing change to the usually drab things I usually see.

Oh, MUCH more reasonable than I was expecting. Might have to investigate further!

that was a lighthearted comment, I too am sure she’s fine, what with being a billionaire.

springhassprung20469 · 07/07/2024 10:58

I've seen a lot worse on Mumsnet. Maybe you'd like it if it was from boden 🙄

VerityUnreasonble · 07/07/2024 10:59

I like the dress a lot, I think it's unusual and not overly expensive for a hand embroidered, cotton dress (£250ish). She looks lovely.

OpalSpirit · 07/07/2024 10:59

Looks good and clearly wanted red, white and blue to send a message.

I bet she doesn't care. I can imagine the sorts of people that do make the memes and what they look like and wear.

turnipsarelush · 07/07/2024 10:59

BluebirdBoogie · 07/07/2024 10:40

I'm with you OP. I thought it was hideous and didn't suit her at all.

And as for not criticising other women, I feel absolutely no solidarity with a multi-billionaire, right-wing, pull the ladder up person like her, woman or not.

This is style and beauty. We discuss the style and beauty not the politics
