Politics aside, but is this hideous and not best for her frame, or is it me?^^

@sunshinegrey but you surely knew it was a very emotive moment, irrelevant of political views? I think it’s unkind to comment on the outfit she chose at that moment. You also added a comment on her financial status.

the comment on her financial status is because money is not a thing she would necessarily consider while choosing an outfit and specially the outfit for this highly watched and photographed occasion

it is not like she has to stay within a certain budget and limit her choices

I love the dress. It’s striking. I would wear it if I had the lifestyle (I don’t.)

howlsmovingbouncycastle · 07/07/2024 11:00

I actually really liked it on her - I thought it looked fantastic on her when she was walking as the movement really made it.

Show us where she's been torn down.

@Corinthiana yes Sir!

ruethewhirl · 07/07/2024 11:02

I think it's hideous. Then again I'm not a fan of the styling of many dresses that seem to be in fashion at the moment, they're just so shapeless, and not everyone can pull off these ubiquitous high necks.

Teddleshon · 07/07/2024 11:02

It’s not my taste but I think it was a great choice for the occasion - an Indian label and a wonderful nod to the Union Jack.

Anyone who snipes about her family’s money needs their head examined. They are 100% self made and didn’t become wealthy until Akshata was a teenager. She was sent away to live with her grandmother so her parents could build the business. The story of Akshata’s mother’s business success in the incredibly patriarchal and class ridden society that is India is extraordinary.

If only women could get past criticising each other.

This. I wonder if men start threads saying didn't he look awful. I thought the dress was hideous but it was just a passing thought I kept to myself. Why post on an Internet forum to ridicule her.

If only women could get past criticising each other.

I agree with this.
Why doe everyone always become about what the woman is wearing and how she looks.
Why not focus on what she is like as a person: what her personality is, what she contributes to life etc.

@Corinthiana yes Sir!

I think you have the wrong poster. I was asking for clarification for her being "torn down".

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 07/07/2024 11:04

I didn't like it but she did suit it.

Starlightstarbright3 · 07/07/2024 11:04

Urgh … I hate this kind of post ..

The leader of the conservatives does his I’m out of a job speech . She has to stand there as supporting her husband and someone wants to comment on what she is wearing ..

I doubt it would even be mentioned if it was a woman as pm with husband behind

It’s unusual. I think she looks cool. The fact that it’s shockingly expensive is the notable thing.

Have you converted to pounds? My eyes were on stalks until I saw the price was in Rs, but in pounds it's about £300, which is a lot but not for a wealthy woman with the eyes of the world on her.

It was probably loads less than what Rishi's suit cost, which is no doubtedly made to measure from a high end tailor.

badhappenings · 07/07/2024 11:05

YABVU

I think she looks absolutely lovely.

The red white and blue is also very patriotic and the dress to me is a mix of both cultures.

I bet you couldn't carry it off.

Butchyrestingface · 07/07/2024 11:05

Probably already been mentioned but someone on X/Twitter suggested the dress made it harder for German U boats to gauge her speed and bearing. ⛴

Sadtosaythis · 07/07/2024 11:05

@sunshinegrey I just think it’s unnecessary. I have seen loads of memes and unkind posts about this moment on Instagram and X and you’ve added to it.

friendlycat · 07/07/2024 11:05

Great dress. Really liked it on her. Loved her block white shoes as well.
Thought she looked really stylish and absolutely appropriate.

MartyFunkhouser · 07/07/2024 11:05

I also think it’s hideous, OP.

because this forum is called style&beauty not personality&life contributions

I thought it was OK and suited her. Struck a balance between being "a statement dress" but also modest and elegant. I'm surprised she wore something with red in it though.

No, I haven’t. I just don’t like your tone. It’s pretty obvious she’s tearing down her appearance during a vulnerable moment. It doesn’t matter about politics or bank balance, I feel it’s in bad taste and unkind. Not necessary (a bit like your tone).

AnnaMagnani · 07/07/2024 11:09

I liked it. A dress with a lot of handmade features from an ethical Indian designer which is also red white and blue.

Thought it was an excellent choice and she looked great in it.

So "yes, sir" is a nice tone, is it? No.
I would say it's far more rude and personal.
I'm not personal.

Ah I stand corrected! You’re right, that’s not outlandishly expensive.

BobbyBiscuits · 07/07/2024 11:10

It's horrible isn't it? It kind of looks like the fabric of a circus tent. The fit is really unflattering too. She's really short and skinny, but I don't think she dresses great for her shape. That one is particularly wrong though.

Lifeomars · 07/07/2024 11:10

I thought it was horrible but very memorable. I really liked what she wore on polling day, can't find a photo but it looked lovely. That dress is not my choice or in my price range. I am sure I wear stuff that other people think is horrible. I also have clothes that I have loved and then looked at a few years later and wondered what on earth I was thinking when I bought them. Fashion and style while being two different things are very personal things.
