Yes I know, I'm stupidly early, but I love a beauty advent calendar and I've just seen Liberty has stopped a sneak peek at their offering this year...

Look fantastic did sell out so quickly last year…can’t blame them if they do broadly the same. I love cult51 so f&m has edge. @MidnightMeltdown I hate pillow sprays, but they make ok ironing water/clothes refreshers, that helps get rid of them!

I never thought about that! 😆

mynewusername2023 · 09/08/2024 12:32

Just seen the Flannels advent cracker and it looks really good. It has a few products I already use and love and some I'd like to try. Good brand IMO as well. Plus it's a slightly lower price at £185.

This year is going to be so hard as I really really shouldn't get 3 - I'm fairly loyal to CB and spacenk so flannels is confusing things.

I still haven't gotten over the trauma of the year they messed them up really badly and mine didn't arrive until December 15th. Mind you, they did refund it eventually after a concerted twitter campaign so it was free. Their customer service was so bad that I haven't bought anything from them since.

I don't mean to be rude, but can we please move on from this now? I feel like for the past few years you complain about this repeatedly on every AC thread. These are meant to be nice uplifting threads and it can be a bit of a downer. (I appreciate you've only mentioned it once this year so far).

Yes I think Harrods did this last years as well - they had a second drop on release day. I actually thought that the pre-release sold out more slowly than usual.

In previous this years I seem to remember it selling out within a couple of hours, whereas this year it didn't sell out until the following day. I wonder whether it was the timing of the release, or whether they produced more this year. Or perhaps people getting advent calendar fatigue!

I didn’t get the email for preorder from Harrods until Thursday morning, by that time I’d already ordered the night before..just wondering if that was the reason it was a bit slower to sell out. I thank @AprilLady for the heads up as my updates for Really Ree are slow, and I would have missed out too if I had not read this thread. 🥰

Growlybear83 · 09/08/2024 15:09

I didn't get my email from Harrods until long after I'd ordered my fragrance calendar, so I would probably have missed it again if not for this thread.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/08/2024 15:47

@SoloCat & @Growlybear83

Ah that's probably the reason. Annoying for people who didn't get the email until after half of the stock had already gone!

Thanks again to @AprilLady and her hawk eyes! 😄

My understanding is these threads are about figuring which calendar to buy so people mention negatives as well as positives. I know I appreciate knowing if a company has poor customer service as well as the other positives and negatives about a calendar in previous years.

Out of curiosity, I did an advanced search on the 5 threads (so apprx 5000 posts) from last year. I mentioned it twice. Once when I said I liked the look of LF but was reluctant give my previous experience when it didn't turn up until the 15th Dec and once when I advised another poster whose calendar had gone astray and who was getting nowhere with CS to take to twitter as that was what I have done when I had a similar experience with LF a few years previously. Hardly a flood!

You can always ignore my posts...

Yes, thanks indeed. This was the one I wanted to get more than any other and I really didn't want to have to traipse up to the store to buy one again like last year.

virgocatlover · 09/08/2024 18:27

With F&M, Liberty and Harrods already releasing their offerings, I hope Space NK and CB will announce their calendar contents soon. It took longer for calendars to sell last year, which indicates more competition in the market this year.

I was thinking about getting one for the first time this year as December was so grim last year and they sound cheering! Are there any vegan and cruelty free ones that anyone knows of?

Not seen any notices yet but Holland & Barrett usually do one.

Holland and Barrett is a good one. It's comparable to m&s but all natural beauty products. I've always enjoyed it, although i didn't get last years one

No idea how/why that website got linked

Holland and Barrett is worth a look but not much makeup. I bought it three or four years ago . Face scrub , cleanser, solid shampoo and conditioner, eye cream, etc. Some random things like a mirror, reusable cotton bud.
Lipscrub , lip balm, really nice shower gel. Horrible toothpaste

There is H&B if you're looking for a more budget option, but I had it in 2022 and didn't rate it. I'm pretty sure Naturismo is vegan and cruelty free. You're probably best waiting for all the contents to be released, often bloggers/vloggers will review them and make lists of which are vegan etc. Unfortunately most of the biggies aren't, but that does mean the vegan ones aren't the ones that generally sell out quickly. There was a great one in 2021 by Freedm Street but I don't think they've done one since unfortunately.

@OchonAgusOchonOh I'll take your word for it, maybe it's the fact I've been hearing about it for years. We've all had bad experiences of customer service in our time, but it's been years now, and ultimately it did get resolved in the end.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 10/08/2024 00:21

@JudgeBurrito and a quick glance through social media would suggest their CS has not improved.

Housewife2010 · 10/08/2024 04:01

@OchonAgusOchonOh I had a dreadful experience with Look fantastic a couple of years or so back. It took me 3 months for them to refund me for a smashed palette. In the end I was contacting them daily on Twitter, email and Instagram. Their Instagram was a joke; every time they put a new post up, it would be deluged by irate customers wanting to know where their order was. I've boycotted them ever since.
AC's are a nice fun, indulgent treat. I can see how LF spoiled your experience that year and I don't think there's anything wrong with you mentioning it.

mynewusername2023 · 10/08/2024 10:23

Well looks like I might be getting 3 this year 🫣 just pre-ordered the Flannels beauty cracker and will almost definitely get the CB and spacenk ones. Good job I've been saving since January for them.

That's only two really. The cracker doesn't count. That's really just a Christmas decoration.

I quite like the look of Liberty. Quick question for those who have had it before - do the perfumes tend to be atomisers or roll-on or similar? I'm wondering how they manage the international shipping as they can't ship atomisers so wondering if they sub with something else.

Or if anyone from Ireland has gotten it before, how did the perfumes work out?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 10/08/2024 10:50

Thanks @Housewife2010 .

JudgeBurrito · 10/08/2024 11:10

Interesting! Nice to see a new option, I've never shopped at Beauty Bay but looks like they stock an interesting range of brands.

Isabelle70 · 10/08/2024 11:11

@OchonAgusOchonOh I am in Guernsey and they won't ship to me so I use a shipping forwarding service. I changed the shipping location on the calendar preorder and it's not available to ship to Ireland.

Thanks for checking.

That's disappointing. They shipped to Ireland last year. I wouldn't mind but I spent ages last night putting all the contents in to my spreadsheet.

Unfortunately, forwarding service doesn't work for us any more as they need an invoice on the outside and won't ship atomisers or any other things on the prohibited list. I used to use them pre brexit all the time. They were great.
