Beauty advent calendars 2024

Yes I know, I'm stupidly early, but I love a beauty advent calendar and I've just seen Liberty has stopped a sneak peek at their offering this year...

Probably a stupid thing to do but the fragrance advent is still showing on the Harrods website so I've ordered it again. Why would they have it still available if they are refunding people?!

Let's see if I end up with anything!

That's really odd - it's been showing as out of stock since the day after they announced the preorders, until now. Hopefully you will still get one!

wheresmyshoe · 30/08/2024 11:43

Good luck @TreesinthePark

I'm too irritated to give them more of my money 😁

AprilLady · 30/08/2024 11:53

That is really shocking from Harrods, especially this long after the initial order. I’m now anxiously checking my emails - nothing from them yet.

As it happens, I’m planning to be in London on Sunday (family) and Monday (work) but wasn’t expecting to need to be anywhere near Harrods.

MidnightMeltdown · 30/08/2024 11:55

Urgh, I've had a Harrods customer service nightmare in the past with calendars. Can't remember whether it was last year, or the year before, but there was supposed to be a shampoo and conditioner in the calendar, and the conditioner was missing (from all of their calendars)

Instead of just sending me out the conditioner (which they did for all other customers), they made me send the entire calendar back and reorder it. I had to take it to the post office and pay the return postage (which was quite a lot on a heavy item), send them the postage receipt, and then wait for them to refund me! I was not impressed.

Puravida23 · 30/08/2024 12:02

Really shoddy of Harrods to cancel orders especially if they still have stock which will be in store from Sunday. Just checked my order and it is status:Reviewing so not sure if mine will be cancelled or not . I shall see.
I was also considering their main beauty advent as well . Not sure I will order now given this
I had a similar experience last year with the Flannels Perfume Cracker preordered the men’s and women’s. They then cancelled my men’s orders . And then to add insult to injury restocked the men’s so like you @TreesinthePark I ended up buying it again. It wouldnt have been so bad except for the ridiculous postage charges (£7) which I then had to pay again on the second attempt
Makes you wonder why you bother preordering if it dosent guarantee your order anyway

wheresmyshoe · 30/08/2024 12:06

It was you I was thinking of @MidnightMeltdown it was dreadful customer service.

Growlybear83 · 30/08/2024 12:07

The status on my order says 'reviewing' as well, so I'm waiting to see if I get the email too.

MidnightMeltdown · 30/08/2024 12:14

How did I know that there would be a Neom candle in there!

JudgeBurrito · 30/08/2024 12:23

John Lewis looks good. Nothing overly exciting, and Neom is very boring for the candle, but it's a solid list. And less than £200.

I posted my ideal list recently -

For me it would be BioEffect EGF serum, Alpha H Liquid Gold, a retinol (Medik8?), a rich night cream (not AB rich cream…), vitamin C serum (Sunday Riley?), Kate Somerville ExfoliKate, full size candle (Diptyque if we’re dreaming, or Jo Loves), a couple of fragrances (nothing too oudhy, I like fresher scents), a brown eyeliner, a black mascara, a red lipstick, an eyeshadow palette (NOT Charlotte Tilbury. Maybe Vieve, haven’t tried that brand), Aromatherapy Associates/Olverum bath oil, Larry King A Social Life for your Hair, and a body lotion. I can dream!

So JL has two/three retinols, a vitamin C, an exfoliating acid, a Kate Somerville product, a full size candle, a few fragrances, an eyeshadow, a mascara, a lipstick, an AA bath oil AND Olverum bath oil, a blow dry cream, and Bum Bum cream... it's not far off!

virgocatlover · 30/08/2024 12:30

Thanks for this. This is my favourite so far, and I quite like the Neom candle.

John Lewis is a bit of a mixed bag. Definitely not a bad offering, but I think I prefer Space NK, F&M and Harrods so I probably won't buy it.
I'd put this in 4th place

JudgeBurrito · 30/08/2024 12:39

@MidnightMeltdown I'm inclined to agree. I just wish Space NK had less hair products and an AA/Olverum bath oil and candle instead, but we can't have everything. Tbf JL is what, £50+ cheaper than the other three?

MidnightMeltdown · 30/08/2024 12:50

@JudgeBurrito

Yeah that's true. I do think that it's good value, and I too like that Olverum bath oil, it's just that I'm not hugely excited by the other products.

I like the fact that they've got an Elizabeth Arden product in there, but I wish that they'd included a tinted one instead of the boring plain one.

John Lewis also seem to have a thing for always selecting Barbie pink make up shades, which as an olive skinned person, don't really appeal to me.

wheresmyshoe · 30/08/2024 10:50

Urgh, they will be in store, they won't send one from the store. Harrods have gone right down in my estimation. I'm reminded of the Mumsnetter who had an awful time with her calendar.

Twitter worked for me when I had the nightmare with Look Fantastic.

What I would recommend is tweeting them detailing the problem and that they won't send you a calendar from the shop. They will want to move to DM. Do that but reply to your tweet, making sure they are tagged in on a daily basis asking for an update or summarising their DM if it was unhelpful.

The other thing I would suggest doing is looking for tweets that have Harrods tagged it from people who have received their calendar or who are looking forward to receiving it. Reply to them, making sure that Harrods are tagged saying how disappointed you are and summarising your story.

Finally, look got tweets from people in the same boat as you and reply with a "me too" tweet.

It sound like a lot of effort but I just spent about 10-15 minutes a day on twitter for 4 or 5 days after which they refunded me for the missing calendar.

Good luck.

wheresmyshoe · 30/08/2024 13:08

Thanks @OchonAgusOchonOh I hope you have a smooth ride with your advent of choice this year.

SoloCat · 30/08/2024 13:11

Mine was cancelled too..had the reviewing order, then the email. I ordered the beauty one too and they’re sending that, but I’m thinking of refusing delivery 😡

So weird that Harrods are cancelling pre-orders. WHY?? They still have stock!

Maybe it's some error on their system.

I assume it's a different system. Boots and M&S are the same - they can have stuff out of stock online but available in store but never the twain shall meet

MidnightMeltdown · 30/08/2024 13:29

Hmmm... it's just weird that they made them available again online. Presumably those were from the cancelled orders, as they are now out of stock again online.

Mine says 'reviewing order' so wonder whether it will also get cancelled!

Puravida23 · 30/08/2024 13:43

Thanks for posting @MidnightMeltdown I love the JL box so pretty. I quite like it as a calendar too it’s a contender for me . I am quite boring on what I like so bathoils/pillow mists/hand creams/body creams are right up my street . Plus combined with some nice skincare like Dermologica, SR Luna Oil, REN and Murad
this could be a good one. Just wish they were not so formulated with their advents with the same brands every year (Neom, Dermologica, Sunday Riley,Floral Street). I like the brands but you never feel like the calanders are that different year on year

Isabelle70 · 30/08/2024 13:46

My Harrods fragrance has been cancelled as well. I purchased a shampoo with the order and due to my location I was charged £20 delivery. So now a £23 shampoo has cost me £43!
I am going to see if I can return the shampoo for a full refund including postage.:..

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/08/2024 13:48

@Puravida23 Yes, it would be nice to get something completely different each year. Last year's Space NK was really, really similar to the previous year's CB. I don't understand it.
