Beauty advent calendars 2024

Yes I know, I'm stupidly early, but I love a beauty advent calendar and I've just seen Liberty has stopped a sneak peek at their offering this year...

Cult Beauty looks pretty good, but I think that Space NK still has the edge for me.

The EGF Serum is good, but unless I'm mistaken, CB appears to have TWO(!) black eyeliners, as well as wrist bands, hair clips, rich cream, and a candle that I don't really want. I rarely wear eyeshadow so not interested in a palette either.

Would like to see a pic/unboxing though as I find it easier to visualise the contents.

There seems to be a lot of sheet/eye masks in CB too, and yet another bum bum cream...

I probably won't get this. Space NK, F&M and Harrods are still the best I think.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/08/2024 19:08

And a 'scalp serum'? 🤔

Isabelle70 · 26/08/2024 19:15

I don't need another one but do you think I could add the Harrods hair advent to my fragrance pre-order?
I could keep the hair one for January!

CorneliaStreet · 26/08/2024 19:28

@MidnightMeltdown The two black eyeliners have instantly ruled Cult Beauty out for me!

OchonAgusOchonOh · 26/08/2024 19:39

Definitely not feeling it for CB. There are multiple DoDs in it and a lot of small sizes. I know they say 20 full size but that includes things like the 2!!! eye liners. There is too much make-up in it for me too.

So far, I think the only one I'm interested in is Liberty. I'm refusing to look at the ones who don't ship to Ireland (Harrods, F&M etc) in case they are brilliant.

YesItIsNovemberAndMyChristmasTreeIsUp · 26/08/2024 20:14

I've just had a sneak peak email from sephora but it's nothing exciting so far

MidnightMeltdown · 26/08/2024 20:28

CorneliaStreet · 26/08/2024 19:28

@MidnightMeltdown The two black eyeliners have instantly ruled Cult Beauty out for me!

Yes, it put me off instantly too!

That and the scalp serum. That seems like a specialist product for people who have issues with their scalp. Why would we want it in an advent calendar that is supposed to have broad appeal? It makes me feel like CB are using this as a way to get rid of products that have been hanging around for a while.

IlovePond · 26/08/2024 20:36

As a matter of interest, which a/c products have you all really liked and subsequently rebought?

For me it’s been- so far:

The M&S Formula night cream
The Wet & Dry brush from the H&B calendar
Eyeko mascara
Bum bum cream
Weleda skin cream from H&B calendar
Clarins beauty flash balm

Growlybear83 · 26/08/2024 20:44

I've had various Murad products which I really like and have re-bought several times.

I think I remember that the Fenwick calendar was a nice one last year?

JudgeBurrito · 26/08/2024 21:02

At second look, CB is an almost definite no for me. Although in its defence, I think one of the eyeliners is brown, which I would use. But 15ml of moisturiser, 20ml of body lotion, a mini Exfolikate, and too many single use masks and peels. Not good enough.

TurquoiseDress · 26/08/2024 21:07

I'm very excited to have found this thread!

Only the end of August but I'm very happy to start contemplating beauty advent calendars already! Smile

Biscuitburglar · 26/08/2024 21:45

I’m conflicted because on the one hand I would like to buy the very best value advent calendar, but on the other hand, I don’t want to peek and see what’s in them as I really like the contents to be a surprise, so don’t want any spoilers or to watch any un-boxings. So if any kind spreadsheet owners could advise me I’d be very grateful! I like skincare with a little bit of make up, but less bothered about perfume.

QueefofSheena · 26/08/2024 22:28

Cosmetopia has done a couple of really good run throughs, she has Space NK’s real value of full price items at over £800 whereas HN barely scraped the calendar price. I’m not in the market for anything but perfume this year, otherwise but I’d probably go for Space NK if I was getting a premium AC with skincare etc.

Housewife2010 · 26/08/2024 23:19

I've very disappointed with the CB. If the palette had been a more wearable Natasha Denona, like the Glam one, I may have been tempted, but I don't like all the pink shades
So far my favourites are F&M and Space NK. F&M has the least DoD's, but I find Space NK has more exciting items. I was impressed by LF and HN fragrance too.

Clarins beauty flash balm

Oh I love this question.

Agree with M&S Formula night cream!
Also Alpha H Liquid Gold.
Living Proof dry shampoo.
Summer Fridays jet lag mask.
Biossance squalane and vitamin C rose oil.
Larry King A Social Life for your Hair (didn't try it for ages as expected it to be rubbish - nope, game changer!)
Diptyque Philosykos EDT.

I'll probably repurchase Medik8 retinal, and I discovered Bioeffect through a calendar but can't justify a repurchase. Too pricey.

Witchinawell · 27/08/2024 06:55

Products Ive bought again are Oliverum bath oil, various Hourglass products (discovered brand via a prev AC), boy smells candle (I liked it!) and like the previous poster - living proof dry shampoo and that amazing jet lag mask.

For me:

Weleda Skin Food Light, it's now my day moisturiser. Love the spa-like smell and it's affordable.
LOVED the Murad vitamin C cream but it's too spendy for me.

Philip Kingsley Elasticiser. Thought this would be crap but it's been a game changer on my menopause hair. Seemed to get a lot in my 4 ACs so haven't had to repurchase yet.

Bobbi Brown eyeshadow stick. Another game changer and have since bought other gorgeous shades.

Benefit Roller Lash...gives me beautiful, long fluttery lashes for daytime....and Mac Stack for evening. Haven't had to replace either yet.

ESPA shower gel, smells divine. Still have the calendar bottle and use it for weekends away.

JudgeBurrito · 27/08/2024 09:09

That reminds me, I also liked Benefit They're Real Magnet (surprisingly), but I'm using up other mascara freebies just now so haven't repurchased.

I didn't get on with Weleda skin food at all, everyone raves about it but I broke out in a rash, and that's rare for me. My skin can tolerate most creams.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/08/2024 09:33

I’m not tempted by Cult Beauty as it seems to have a lot of filler products. It does have the EGF serum but so does Harrods along with lots of other nice high end skin care. I am quite pleased that I am only tempted by Harrods so far as I may stick to just the one advent calendar this year!

I had John Lewis, Fenwick (got swayed by the gwp) and the OK calendar last Christmas.
Fenwick was only a 12 day one so I opened between Christmas and New Year. It had lots of really nice full sized products including the EGF serum.

IlovePond · 27/08/2024 09:41

@MonkeyTennis34 - ah yes, the PK Elasticiser - I have also rebought that!

I will also rebuy the Bobbi Brown mascara I got last year!

For reasons unknown, I sold the BB eye shadow stick in bronze I got in one a/c as I didn’t think I’d use it - been regretting that ever since!

IlovePond · 27/08/2024 09:47

I got the Clarins 12 day calendar last year and was really disappointed by all the small sample sizes. The box was nice though, (kept it to refill this year), and it did introduce me to their Beauty Flash Balm, so I don’t regret it too much. Won’t be rebuying, though!

Puravida23 · 27/08/2024 09:57

For me it has been Kate Somerville (goats milk cleanser, exfolikate, anything really I haven’t tried a product I don’t like and will look out for that brand in an advent)
Colour wow Dreamcoat is the only product that makes my hair half decent
Laneige sleeping mask but not the chocolate flavour!
Saie introduced me to liquid blush which I love
I liked the Boy smells candle too and re bought
Sunday Riley Vitamin C serum
I love the Delilah eye shadow sticks too and now have 3 different colours which make eye makeup looks so eas

i just got an email that Latest in Beauty have opened their waitlist. There are a few spoilers on the waitlist page including Medik8. Also sounds like it will be priced under £200.(possibly £170 like last year dropping to £150 with a discount , I got it for under £100 last year on TikTok )So if you are interested in this I recommend stalking TikTok as it is usually priced cheaper than their website but they do use fluid pricing so it will vary so if you see a good deal buy it there and then as it may disappear an hour later

BloodyWolves · 27/08/2024 10:47

Cult beauty does have a lot of filler items in it but it’s also got the most I’d use or want to try so I’m torn!
I’ve never tried a Glow recipe product I didn’t like, I like the look of the blush and lip liner, I’ve been wanting to smell that candle for a while and then there’s the Bioeffect serum, exfolikate, elasticiser (which I love!) and the two eyeliners which I go through like no tomorrow!

But then wristbands, hair clips and bloody scalp serum! Wtf!

JudgeBurrito · 27/08/2024 10:49

@Puravida23 I'm quite interested in the LiB, the spoilers look good. I had it in 2022 and it was great, but wasn't tempted by last year's. The TikTok shop annoys me too, I'd rather just buy from a website, so we'll see.
