Yes I know, I'm stupidly early, but I love a beauty advent calendar and I've just seen Liberty has stopped a sneak peek at their offering this year...

Harvey nics seem to have done what they always do and included a zillion minis and samples. I like the fact that there are some different brands in there, like Trinny London, but it would be better if there were fewer items and bigger sizes. Most people don't want to pay £250 for a big box of samples.

CocoMascara · 23/08/2024 16:48

The only one that has grabbed me so far is the harrods hair and body, but I’m waiting for look fantastic and JL to reveal. If I dont like those, I might go for the 12 days harrods and then splash out on clarins with their Black Friday offers. I got some lovely bits in that last year. But then again CB fragrance might tempt me…

pinkchampagne1 · 23/08/2024 17:37

John Lewis are often a little later revealing their calendar aren’t they? I know it is often available to buy from the beginning of October as it’s usually around my birthday.
I have had JL for the last 3 years but still loving the look of Harrods this year.

GentlemanJack · 23/08/2024 17:42

The Selfridges one looks ok to me. Some interesting bits like the patches ( if the sleep ones work, I'm sold) some new to me perfumes and I like the make up bits.
Can't find a price but reviews aren't great a lot of disappointed people. Maybe it will get reduced. I could consider if the price is good.

mynewusername2023 · 23/08/2024 19:10

Both Selfridge's and Sephora are a no for me. Love that lack of candles in the SpaceNK one as the Jo loves scents give me a head ache.
So just waiting for the full cult beauty reveal. Super annoyed that cult beauty launches on a Wednesday as I work in a different building on a Wednesday and there is zero phone signal!

pinkchampagne1 · 23/08/2024 19:28

Have the contents of the Sephora calendar been revealed?

Housewife2010 · 24/08/2024 12:51

I started watching the Space NK AC unboxing and didn't last very long. I agree with a previous poster who said it was unwatchable. Two daft fake tanned young women who didn't know very much about the products were excitedly opening it. This is from the official Space NK site (rather than them being bloggers) and they hadn't heard of Skin Rocks or Caroline Hirons which have been heavily publicised by Space NK. In the first 5 minutes there were so many "She's gorge" and I gave up!
Grumpy old woman question - what is the trend for calling handbags, ACs and lipsticks "she"? I understand for ships, but not for lipsticks.
Surely Space NK could have chosen a knowledgeable and articulate member of staff to publicise their AC?

BakeOffRewatch · 24/08/2024 13:24

From everything I know about marketing and brand world, it’ll be their mate from school works there at the moment.

Update for @OchonAgusOchonOh and other Irish lurkers here! Liberty CS has proactively come back to me with the following update:

I raised your enquiry with my management and team and have been made aware that once the calendar is released (4th September) then you will be able to order this to be delivered to Ireland.

Great CS from Liberty and great news! Yay!

That’s great news.

I sent one to a friend a couple of years ago and was planning to do the same this year so was very frustrated by the news that they wouldn’t ship.

great update 😊

Growlybear83 · 24/08/2024 13:50

@Housewife2010 I agree it's weird the way people refer to things as 'she' now. I bought a new mattress a couple of years ago, and the very helpful woman who spent an hour with me whilst I tried loads of different ones referred to every single mattress as 'she' or 'her' 😆😆😆

YfenniChristie · 24/08/2024 15:24

Just been catching up on the thread. Last year I had the Selfridges and Boots Premium advent calendars and loved them.

Very disappointed with this year's offering from Selfridges. Definitely have my eye on the Space NK one. Am keeping an eye out for the Boots Premium and Cult Beauty offerings.

IlovePond · 24/08/2024 16:57

Hi, not an advent calendar, but maybe good for things to put in a DIY one:

LF are ‘giving away’ a beauty box with a spend over £75 - app only. If you spend £80+, they are also throwing in a perfume sample, (you can choose from a selection). They also have some discounts on atm.

Several brands on LF have other offers, which stack with the BB and perfume. For example, if you spend more than £70 on EL, you get a ‘free’ mascara and lip serum.

It’s quite a good deal if you ‘need anything’ beauty wise, (or, like me, can persuade yourself that you do😹)

I have ordered and plan to give the BB to my DH to start refilling an advent calendar box I saved from last year!

Wishimaywishimight · 01/07/2024 07:11

Just wondering if anyone gets the Jo Malone advent calendar? I was tempted last year but it's so expensive! Is it worth it I wonder?

They do look fab, but the price 😳 I was supremely disciplined last year though and didn’t buy one at all. Firstly, because I had so much stuff left over from the previous year. Secondly, my always buy in addition to a great one is the M&S, but last year’s just wasn’t doing it for me!

jazzchilli · 24/08/2024 19:39

I've never bought one of the advent calendars as like many of the beauty boxes, they seem liable to include black liquid eyeliner, red lipstick and skincare for dry skin. Are there any that avoid these?

I really miss Sephora's beauty box where you could pick your own...wish someone would come up with something similar.

Puravida23 · 24/08/2024 19:58

More LF Spoilers . I am really liking what I am seeing so far for Look Fantastic looking forward to the full reveal . it would be great to love an advent which only costs £100!

virgocatlover · 24/08/2024 20:01

I agree @Puravida23 LF is looking good so far. It's never appealed to me before but from the previews they've upped their game. I hope the rest of the calendar is as good.

IlovePond · 24/08/2024 20:12

I too am tempted by the LF calendar @Puravida23 - hopefully there will be some more ‘reveals’ before it goes on sale.

BakeOffRewatch · 24/08/2024 20:16

LookFantastic is really good for £100. Might get for family members.

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 24/08/2024 20:34

So many great tips here - I am new the the world of beauty AC, splashed out (I thought) last year and bought the Boots one, this year saw an ad for F&M and fell down the rabbit hole. Torn between that and Liberty.

Addictedtobeauty · 24/08/2024 20:38

I like LF so far too. Very tempting.
Is Look Fantastic the one that’s always on Tik Tok and has random vouchers off?

ReadingWorm · 24/08/2024 20:42

I’m always tempted by these calendars but I get put off by the though of having lots of small sizes or items I know I’ll never use.

I’m tempted to try a fragrance calendar this year. Anyone have an opinion on calendars Jo Malone, Penhaligon or Dyptique offer?

It really shocked me how bad they where “advertising” and they had obviously never bought an advent before because loads of the things they hadn’t heard of which are in the calendars every year and they couldn’t pronounce a lot of the brands either. Like you say if it was an influencer I’d understand but space nk posted it. X

Puravida23 · 24/08/2024 21:24

@Addictedtobeauty No that is Latest in Beauty . It will be interesting to see what they come up with this year. It was superb in 2022 but not so great last year (although I still bought it as got a bargain price on Tiktok and used it for stocking fillers ). It’s probably the most frustrating buy though as you buy it for what you think is a good price only for it to reduce the next day/hour and you can waste hours of your life tracking it. To be honest I hope it is rubbish this year as not sure I can face the hassle😂

Growlybear83 · 24/08/2024 21:54

@ReadingWorm I've had the Jo Malone calendar twice and Jo Loves once and I've loved all three. There has been a good mix of fragrances, different creams, and only a couple of candles, with more fragrances than anything else. They are expensive compared with the beauty advent calendars, but I think they're worth if you like Jo Malone fragrances. I've decided not to get either this year, just because I've still got quite a bit that I've not finished from the last couple of years, and there aren't that many new fragrances which I haven't got. I've not had Penhaligon or Diptique, but from what I remember there were quite a lot of candles in the Diptique calendar last year, which I wouldn't use. I don't know many of the Penhaligon fragrances but might be tempted!

Wheeliegoodlego · 24/08/2024 22:29

I think I’m one of the few the CB calendar really appeals to. Lots of bits I use and love and would end up buying more anyway. And a few bits I’d love to try. I’m waiting to see what asos comes out with this year. I ended up getting one last year at a bargain price and it had a fair few things I would expect to find in the £200 calendars.
A few fillers but I’d say I’ve used at least half and loved it and given away some other bits that my mil loved.
