Yes I know, I'm stupidly early, but I love a beauty advent calendar and I've just seen Liberty has stopped a sneak peek at their offering this year...

I've just ordered the liberty. I had the Elemis one last year. I am trying to stop buying but yeah it's not working

pinkchampagne1 · 19/08/2024 18:51

Ooh, I will be interested to see the live reveal of the Space NK calendar tomorrow.

GentlemanJack · 19/08/2024 19:32

I do think that if I'm spending a good chunk of cash on an advent calendar then it ought to have drawers. Sturdy ones - so I can repurpose it. I collect things all year and gift to my friend and her daughters to open and share things between them.
I'm not so bothered if it's a cheaper one.

JudgeBurrito · 19/08/2024 19:44

@GentlemanJack I prefer something easily recyclable, regardless of what I spend. I still have last year's F&M box sitting upstairs because I feel guilty throwing it out but I cba selling it or filling it.

I'm using last year's Next AC to make a new one for DD.

Have almost got enough goodies to fill all the drawers.

Growlybear83 · 19/08/2024 20:32

I've ordered the Liberty calendar too. With the £20 off for pre orders and my Beauty Drop money, I thought it would be a bit rude not to 😆

Therightcoffee · 19/08/2024 21:40

@JudgeBurrito f&m is recyclable - if you rip the magnets out, it’s just case of jumping on the rest and putting in cardboard recycling.

AprilLady · 19/08/2024 22:37

I finally had some time over the weekend and tonight to set up my spreadsheet. As last year, I’ve tried to calculate an “RRP” value based on the listed contents and to guestimate the value if you tried to buy it all on eBay once the calendars are released. I’ve also looked at what I would use, and the products I am actively excited by. Calendar price includes postage where this is charged on top.

I’ve added some extra analysis this year - looking at the types of products included in each calendar. This is quite interesting; Harrods is very skincare heavy, but the others released so far are more balanced.

Both Liberty and F&M so far look decent, and for me Harrods is the stand out so far.

No colour coding as yet!

That’s so funny @AprilLady i just came to this thread to post about my dithering. I’ve never had an advent calendar before, I follow the threads then I dither then Christmas comes round and I am distracted! I really want to get the Liberty I’ll use it all and trying new fragrances will be fun, but there’s nothing I’ll repurchase. I think Cult Beauty fits me more meeting and brand wise, but they might be to make up heavy. I love Hourglass, La Neige, Ouai and Summer Fridays, all brands I have and would purchase too.

You know what I’ve convinced myself to just press pre order on the Liberty. It’ll be completely different stuff to what I own.

wheresmyshoe · 19/08/2024 22:41

Thank you @AprilLady your spreadsheet is, as ever, very helpful!

Biscuitburglar · 19/08/2024 22:48

Thank you @AprilLady i have also decided not to dither this year, and have ordered the Harrods one. I had the Liberty and JL ones last year and loved them both and I’m still really enjoying using my haul. It was my first year of beauty advents and I’m totally hooked now, they are such a treat.

BakeOffRewatch · 19/08/2024 22:51

Well I’ve just made a couple of attempts at purchasing the Liberty one and no success. Wouldn’t log in on my mobile, and keeps failing on my tablet. Oh dear! Is this a sign to dither and forgo again?

MonkeyTennis34 · 20/08/2024 08:22

Wow @AprilLady that's impressive!

pinkchampagne1 · 20/08/2024 09:12

Thanks for the spreadsheet, AprilLady. Harrods is still the standout calendar for me as I prefer getting skin care and there are lots of luxury products in the calendar I would like to try. I only wear a little make up when I go out so don’t need loads of make up products.
Will be interested to see the Space NK reveal later.

BakeOffRewatch · 20/08/2024 09:35

Doesn’t the Harrods have more makeup than the Liberty? F&M seems best for skincare with lots of serums. I know on AprilLady’s sheet the numbers show Harrods is higher number of skincare items but what you don’t see is that two of the full sizes are SPFs and the other skincare is deluxe and samples really. Whereas the Liberty has full size skincare and the F&M has those nice serums.

BakeOffRewatch · 20/08/2024 09:37

Were I to do a spreadsheet, I’d count count deluxe and mini products as 0.5 in columns K to P. Don’t worry I won’t be! But just to show you really need to do the legwork yourself about what’s worth it to you.

pinkchampagne1 · 20/08/2024 09:48

Harrods has more skincare that interests me than the others. It has a full size EGF bio effect serum, a full size Murad night cream, a Clarins moisturiser and some other high end brands I would like to try.
I watched the Liberty unboxing yesterday and I thought there were too many exfoliating products for me and I am not too fussed about hair products as I have very thick hair so don’t use anything that adds volume. Harrods is my favourite so far but looking forward to seeing the reveals of the other calendars. Last year I ended up with 3 beauty advents!

SoloCat · 20/08/2024 10:35

Thanks @AprilLady for the spreadsheet post. I’m waiting for Space NK reveal, I had it last year and it was so good.
I have already ordered the Harrods fragrance.
I just want them all really 🤔

BIossomtoes · 20/08/2024 10:57

I think I’m broken. I have enough Beauty Drop credit for the advent calendar so it would be “free” and I just don’t want it. I’ve reached the stage where I have enough holy grail products that most skincare doesn’t tempt me at all. I quite fancy the blusher and eye shadow but I’ll just pick them up on eBay or Vinted.

JudgeBurrito · 20/08/2024 11:07

I'm feeling a bit the same Blossomtoes!

Just for fun, if you could compose your dream beauty advent calendar, what would make it in?

BakeOffRewatch · 20/08/2024 11:12

Mine would be a serum a day. Maybe for different body parts and seasons. Like décolletage, radiator face.

BIossomtoes · 20/08/2024 11:15

A mixture of balm cleansers and fragrance for me. And the perfect red lipstick (that hasn’t been invented yet).

MiaN · 20/08/2024 11:18

I am kind of like this. There is, only value for me if I actually want the products and my skincare is solid, I don't want to mess with it.

MiaN · 20/08/2024 11:20

Balm cleansers, perfumes, nice hand cream, good size body cream and hair mask, blush, maybe HE nail polish

JudgeBurrito · 20/08/2024 11:35

For me it would be BioEffect EGF serum, Alpha H Liquid Gold, a retinol (Medik8?), a rich night cream (not AB rich cream…), vitamin C serum (Sunday Riley?), Kate Somerville ExfoliKate, full size candle (Diptyque if we’re dreaming, or Jo Loves), a couple of fragrances (nothing too oudhy, I like fresher scents), a brown eyeliner, a black mascara, a red lipstick, an eyeshadow palette (NOT Charlotte Tilbury. Maybe Vieve, haven’t tried that brand), Aromatherapy Associates/Olverum bath oil, Larry King A Social Life for your Hair, and a body lotion. I can dream!
