How old and fat is too old and fat for this dress at a very informal summer wedding in a field?

I’m size 12/14 depending on make and have this dress in denim. I really like it and people have said it suits me. I am 68, but feel younger and wear what feels right for me. I used to be a size 22! Having lost around five stone I have gone a bit mad on buying clothes. I would go ahead and buy it if you like it. The bust area is a bit small so if you are lucky enough to be well endowed in that department then I would advise to size up. (I am not well endowed).

Did you buy the dress, OP? Just interested in what it's like! :)

Any age.
But £99 on one dress?

I brought a very similar one from New Look a couple weeks ago, broderie anglaise, same deep green - is off the shoulder tho

There's a lot of work in that dress. Detail in the button fastening, and the pattern which is quite complex.
New Look is fast fashion and relies on very, very underpaid workforces. Decent broderie anglaise fabric is not cheap either, believe it or not.
Nobody's child might also be cutting corners, but the dress does look quality.

What do you prefer to spend money on, @Sillysausage65?

(I’m certain you wouldn’t actually be surprised that some people might happily spend ten times that amount on ‘one dress’?)

Completely agree. I bought one similar from primark and I wore it twice before a button came loose and the seams unpicked themselves.

the nobody’s child version should last much longer and be good for next summer too

My Nobody's Child stuff all developed holes in three delicate washes. Sadly, these days high prices are no indication of quality at all.

That is shocking did they do anything about it?

Lentilweaver · 22/06/2024 12:06

I didn't get back to them. This was in the pandemic and I had too much other stuff to do. There was a thread on here about the dubious quality of Nobody's Child dresses not long ago if you search.

Swinglower · 22/06/2024 12:12

I’ll look into it. Was the dress a good fit for you?

MoMo999 · 22/06/2024 17:54

No age or weight limit on wearing whatever you want. Go for it.

Grammarnut · 03/08/2024 18:18

Well, I'm old and a bit fat (trying hard to lose weight!) and I would wear it, it's lovely and stylish.
