How old and fat is too old and fat for this dress at a very informal summer wedding in a field?

I have a lack one with billowly sleeves and it's vast. It's a 14 but would fit an 18/20.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 12/06/2024 15:24

I have just bought the sleeveless version in black linen, it's a lovely cut. I'm an 18 and it is generous in size.

I just looked at the sleeveless version, and I really like it. I am not keen on poufy sleeves.

I think if your short and fat it would make you look fatter.

Igneococcus · 13/06/2024 07:52

Sale on now, some similar dresses are reduced, not this one though.

TheChosenTwo · 13/06/2024 08:03

There was a size 18 just now when I clicked the link!
It’s a lovely dress and totally suitable for the occasion, can also be worn to any other summery event as it’s not too formal.
I will say though, I like the look of loads of NC dresses but I have terrible trouble getting them to fit me properly in the right areas. I’m currently a 12-14 in most other shops but I’ve got around 5 ND dresses in bigger sizes because the bust area of the dresses are tight otherwise!

Packetofcrispsplease · 13/06/2024 09:41

I love it , I especially love the black embroidered one that’s sold out .
I am 60 and would definitely wear this except I think I’d need to wear a cami under as my boobs would poke out

MsLuxLisbon · 13/06/2024 11:29

That dress would flatter most shapes, unless you are a very pronounced apple. It is quite forgiving, so unless by 'fat' you mean a size 30, I think it would be fine.

Fraaahnces · 13/06/2024 11:31

It’s gorgeous and if I had had a waist instead of looking like a toothpick potato animal, I would totally get one for myself. (I’m 52, btw)

GreenShady · 13/06/2024 12:58

Anyone buying on the NC website - try Summer20 for an extra discount. Not sure if it works on full price items.

GreenShady · 13/06/2024 12:59

Okay just checked and it does! So it works for sale and non sale items

Sillysausage65 · 13/06/2024 15:18

Any age.
But £99 on one dress?

I brought a very similar one from New Look a couple weeks ago, broderie anglaise, same deep green - is off the shoulder tho

Yes, but the OP's dress is (hopefully) better quality than your NL dress.

GreenShady · 13/06/2024 17:38

Just to clarify - Summer20 gets another 20% off on the Nobody's Child website - or it did this morning anyway.

Badgertime · 14/06/2024 23:14

I love it. I'm nearly 44 and often wear this style of dress. I'm also quite fat!

OriginalFloorboards · 15/06/2024 05:14

Never heard of this place before OP but wow…it’s lovely and looks pretty timeless (and ageless!).

I absolutely love it. Order it and see what you think. It looks very flattering.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 15/06/2024 10:32

Lovely dress, don’t like the green tho

I don't tend to buy fast fashion but I actually tend to agree that broiderie Anglais is something where there's not a huge benefit in spending more as even from the cheapest shop it's 100% cotton. Particularly for white broiderie anglais tops I've often got them from h and m as they are holiday wear which swiftly falls victim to sun cream damage etc.
For the nobody's child dress I think it is the cut that makes it so if I had a specific occasion I wanted it for I'd accept paying for that cut. It doesn't strike me as a dress that'll have much longevity as the colour is very much this season's but it could be worn to death post wedding if we do get a summer as it's very versatile to dressing up or down.

Partimer82 · 18/06/2024 20:38

what a lovely dress. As long as it fits

Swinglower · 19/06/2024 07:17

I agree a great summer dress. Definitely need to size up as it is quite small in the chest. I had to get a size 16 to keep things pg for a party I went to.

I think 99 is fine for a wedding outfit.

Calliopespa · 19/06/2024 13:17

I think it’s really lovely op. If you are busty maybe a cami underneath as it is quite unstructured and low round the cleavage .

But a very tasteful style and couldn’t cause offence.

Swinglower · 19/06/2024 16:15

agree a cami would keep everything under wrap so not to draw attention.

it’s annoying as those with a very small chest can wear it without issue but those with more chest are seen as attention seekers and have to cover up.

goldenrachita · 19/06/2024 18:20

It's trendy (I think?) but totally suitable for any age. It would suit certain body types better. Not body sizes, but definitely shapes. I'm wary of this style as my boobs literally fall out of it and I think you'd also struggle with the fit if you hold your weight around your rib and waist area. An evenly proportioned size 16 or 18, in her 50s or 60s would look lovely in it.
