I think puffed sleeves are a bit girly and don't do much for the well-upholstered.

eggplant16 · 09/06/2024 20:06

Its nice but it certainly is fugure hugging.

CurlewKate · 09/06/2024 09:48

Thank you! I was just worried it might be a little bit "girly". Sadly, it's academic now because while I've spent 24 hours dithering, the bigger sizes have sold out in all colours i I like! Back to the drawing board.

@CurlewKate

i think it's a bit girlie for someone of our ages. But then it boarders on matronly too. I think you'll find something better.

As for the size, I think it would gape if you're 'well padded' (like me). I need something to wear to a wedding in August, I'd dreading finding something. I also have the curse of being under 5ft as well.

Alittlefrustrated · 09/06/2024 20:25

It's VERY low cut - might even show your bra.

TootGoesTheOwl · 09/06/2024 10:09

Well you can be too fat, as the dress only ever went up to a size 18.
I do think it is pertinent to consider our age and size when buying clothing (I am a size 20) and it is worth considering that just because they make it in your size doesn't mean something will be 'flattering' to wear.
If you genuinely have no fucks to give about what people think about your clothing choices then obviously go for it and wear what you like, I think most people want to wear something that brings out their best features so taking age and size into account is perfectly normal.
That said, I do think that style of dress would be suitable for most ages/sizes.

I think that older people just have different tastes to young people. I wouldn't want to flaunt my body - not because it is fat, but because at my age I've had enough of all that.

I always wonder about older women in the public eye like Liz Hurley who, because she has a fantastic figure, is always stripping off. I suppose she is just doing it for work and to make a buck. I wonder what she's really like at home when no-one's watching.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 09/06/2024 20:38

I ordered a red corduroy version and found it to be very revealing of my D-cup, I thought about getting some poppers sewn in but ended up sending it back. Worth trying on before you decide.

Lentilweaver · 09/06/2024 20:41

It's too girly for me. But not because it's right for someone young and slim. I just don't like the milkmaid style of dress on anyone.
If you like it you should wear it.

Illegally18 · 09/06/2024 20:49

It's a beautiful dress, but rather girlish, so I wouldn't wear it am my age of 64

Elevenutionary · 09/06/2024 22:49

You should check the label OP. Usually it gives age limits and size limits. Often expiry dates/times too e.g. not to be worn past midnight etc. Very important to read the labels. 😉

Pretty dress OP. Perfect for a casual wedding.

HiFillyJonk · 09/06/2024 23:26

It's not so much a question of how old and fat you are but how big are your norks? I can't get Nobody's Child dresses to fit me because the bit that's meant to sit under my bust cuts across it. Most frustrating!

nupnup · 09/06/2024 23:34

I can't envision anyone young wearing that dress. So i think if you're worried about it being 'too young' then you don't have any worries.

It doesn't look like a dress anyone in my circle would wear. (20&30s)

I do like it though! It's just a bit matronly for me.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 09/06/2024 23:43

One of the office juniors in my office regularly wears that style of dress. She's early 20s. Probably not Nobody's Child as she's on an office junior's salary, and £85 to £100 depending on which version is probably more than she'd spend, but very similar.

The last few posts have been fascinating - the dress is simultaneously girly, too young, too old, matronly.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 09/06/2024 23:52

That's a nice dress, would be perfect for the wedding you're describing but those sleeves will add bulk so if you are busty and a bit on the stocky or short side, you could end up looking like a big green fridge.

The Boden one is so much better.

notacooldad · 09/06/2024 23:55

I ordered it in a different colour. It is a nice dress but if you are a bit plump it's not flattering, especially around the hips. This is why it was sent back.
It is a lovely dress though just not on me.

I wouldn’t say you can be too old,
but clearly you can’t wear it if you are bigger than an 18 because that’s the biggest size they make.
I never understand they “am I too fat for this?” question because it is obvious if they make it in your size you are not.

Age is an issue with clothing; mutton dressed as lamb
Also with size. Just because an item is available in a size 22 does not mean it is going to look good on a size 22

OP; not saying these statement apply to you or to derail thread! Just wanted to address the assertions of PP

SherrieElmer · 10/06/2024 10:48

35 years.
65 kgs.

Epidote · 10/06/2024 10:52

It said that they only have it up to size 14 Atm, so unless they are back I stock before the venue any age and size 14.
If it fits and you like it just wear it.

Ha, you should go over to the grey dress for a wedding thread. Despite selling it in "giant" sizes (22) it was very clear op should only consider it if she were slim. No giants in delicate frocks on there.

Op it's lovely, I'm a 22 and 42 and I'd wear something similar, but it would also look different and great on my size 10, 22 yo niece

SleepingStandingUp · 10/06/2024 11:18

LuluBlakey1 · 09/06/2024 12:29

No idea what is too old but a size 20 is too fat as it only goes up to an 18 and some colours only have smaller sizes left.

Height probably significant too looking at the skirt and the style.

Only took fat in some colours, goes to a 24 in others

MitskiMoo · 10/06/2024 12:11

It's lovely. Wear it. Does it give an option to email you when it's back in stock? I have the opposite problem. I'm a size 4 petite (or I look at Asian sites or children's sections), finding an outfit for my DS's wedding has been a nightmare. I've settled on a dress and jacket from Karen Millen and had it tailored, which cost less than I expected.

MrsRadichio · 10/06/2024 12:47

@CurlewKate - my local M&S sells Nobody's Child - they had this dress in the same colour (tho not broderie material) in today - worth checking your local M&S maybe?

Literally came here to say this.

I love them but they are not designed for larger busts…!

XiCi · 10/06/2024 13:15

I'm 5ft 5 and the length was perfect

lljkk · 10/06/2024 13:44

Clothes can show off our best features and hide our worst features.

That dress would highlight very flabby arms if you had very flabby arms.
I would not want my flabby arms to be obvious.
Some people can be large with toned (not flabby) arms... any indication of max size really depends on indivl features.
