Do you like it?

I'm conflicted - it's a truly classic ageless scent or not?

lovemycbf · 05/06/2024 16:09

I love it and have a half empty bottle
It's a treat/birthday/Christmas gift as it's rather expensive

PaminaMozart · 05/06/2024 16:10

It is somewhat overpowering very strong...

ManilowBarry · 05/06/2024 16:11

I love the old version, the modern version is g the same or as lovely but it's still a decent fragrance.

Joob · 05/06/2024 16:11

It’s very distinctive and a bit old fashioned but I love it.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 05/06/2024 16:11

It smells very old lady to me

twoandcooplease · 05/06/2024 16:12

Absolute classic and I love it. Is there any similar? To that floraly clean soap smell it has? I've never found one even close
My great aunty always wore no5 and I loved it as a child. Got my first bottle as an 18th birthday present from my mum (it lasted me 3 years!)

FakeMiddleton · 05/06/2024 16:12

Nay - very old woman, too flowery, much much too strong

Gettingbysomehow · 05/06/2024 16:14

I love it. It is my favourite perfume. It is divine. I dont spray it on like a mad woman though. Just a bit on the neck and wrists.
A true classic.

MsFogi · 05/06/2024 16:14

I love it and also love Coco.

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/06/2024 16:15

Adore it. I'm down to my last few squirts though so I'm eeking mine out!

MissBattleaxe · 05/06/2024 16:16

I don't really like it. It smells like face powder and old make up bags. If people smelled it blind, I'm sure they wouldn't snap it up. It is probably the most famous perfume in the world, but not the best, although that would be subjective.

HysteriaOfTheWanderingWomb · 05/06/2024 16:18

I was bought a bottle once by a lover, my conclusion was that scent is very subjective and perfume is a risky present. 🤣🤣

Idontjetwashthefucker · 05/06/2024 16:19

Used to like it when I was younger but it actually makes me feel nauseous now when I smell it, along with any of the heavy/cloying perfumes like Alien, Angel etc.

Tuwhituwhoo · 05/06/2024 16:20

I love it, but won’t wear it myself. It reminds me of my lovely mum.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/06/2024 16:22

I tried to like it but the truth is I don't think it smells good and it also makes me nauseous, as do most of the classic Chanel perfumes. My heart sinks if I'm sitting near someone at dinner who has recently put on Chanel No5.

Mytholmroyd · 05/06/2024 16:31

I have never liked it - prefer No. 19 (before they changed it!) or Coromandel or Bois d'Isles - I never have understood why so much focus is on No.5 when they do some many much better ones!

Pigeonqueen · 05/06/2024 16:40

I love it but it always makes me smile as I was a beauty consultant for Chanel for many years and every year we’d have tons of guys come in at Christmas who’d never set foot in a beauty hall before asking for “Channel Number 5” so I always call it that as a joke.

We also had one elderly gent who’d come through the hall often and spritz a little on a handkerchief and he’d smell it. He said his wife who had passed away always wore it and whenever he had a whiff of it he was always taken right back to thinking of her.

Coastalcreeksider · 05/06/2024 16:40

I like it but No 19 is my favourite so I have both.

PragmaticDramatic · 05/06/2024 16:45

Not for me. I prefer Mademoiselle.

Poggishairtufts · 05/06/2024 16:50

The new one (l'eau?) is much more modern but with a hint to the original. I like it and have a bottle and am looking forward to transitioning to the classic on in about 30 years time!

greengreyblue · 05/06/2024 16:51

All that matters is whether you like it. I have never considered whether strangers like my perfume!

greengreyblue · 05/06/2024 16:52

@Mytholmroyd the fuss is because Marilyn Monroe wore it so it has a kind of cult status.

LettuceTruss · 05/06/2024 16:53

No. 22 is better.

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/06/2024 16:54

Gives me a headache.

AnnaMagnani · 05/06/2024 16:55

Just make sure it doesn't give you a headache.

Almost all the Chanels have a strong aldehyde element which triggers headache in susceptible people.

Which is a shame as I like the scent.
