@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius there's an interesting piece here about the history of the DVF wrap dress

www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/fashion-news/a60255478/diane-von-furstenberg-wrap-dress/

The prices have gone up, there's another interesting article here www.nytimes.com/2020/07/22/business/diane-von-furstenberg-coronavirus-crisis.html

But what is special about her dresses is the silk jersey material that she uses for a lot of her wrap dress (she also uses printed crepe and crepe de chine now whereas originally it was just the silk jersey fabric that she found in Italy.)

The Outnet is worth a look as they have lots of DVF at discounted prices and lots of other designers. I've tried to find something similar to the one you mentioned but haven't come up with anything yet. A lot of brands do 'mock' wrap dresses now for some reason. Never Fully Dressed do lots of proper wrap styles but their prints are quite bold and more occasion but worth a look. Otherwise, I'd look at the usual higher end high street suspects- Reiss, Hobbs, Whistles, Boden etc. I've attached a couple of ideas. Had to include the Les Revieres one as it's beautiful for an occasion

Hi please could you help me? I’m going backpacking to Asia for 6 weeks, late fifties, size 8 5’2, I need a small capsule wardrobe and am looking for 2 or 3 dresses preferably knee length, suitable for sightseeing, beach, meals etc. I usually find things in Zara, Anthropologie, local independent shop we have, but am struggling to find anything casual enough that still looks stylish, thanks x

@PeonyBlush10 lots of good ideas here already. Linked a suggestion below

@frillseeking thanks very much for your time and suggestions. I was considering tan shoes and the necklace ties everything together adding contrast/texture and 3 rd colour to lift the look without ‘taking over’ the dress. Great advice given earlier on about looking your best when trying on - sometimes I think an item of clothing looks drab when it’s really me who is looking/feeling drab having just got up in the morning etc. Thanks also to @redfacebigdisgrace - hope you find what you are looking for. Some great advice on here.

@PeonyBlush10 it's only Zara, was quite surprised to find a piece like this on the high street here's the link necklace

@redfacebigdisgrace I totally empathise with this one as I was planning to wear my favourite silver midi recently for a weekend away but my stomach was feeling very bloated- the dreaded apron belly! The fitted waistcoat was my savour, like the image below. It nips in at the waist so brings back definition to the waist without having to tuck in (which I agree can just add bulk) and just gives that extra bit of coverage. I've also seen inpolife on insta rocking this look recently as a curvier lady and she looks fab! Hope this helps!

I am taking on new clients, linking my website if anyone wants to have a look

You are really very clever at this and quick at sourcing items ! I’ve developed frown lines between my eyebrows after too much scrolling on my phone looking for the perfect accessory with no joy 😂 I look forward to looking at your website

Please - another question about the olive dress which has sat unworn in my wardrobe for a few weeks. This waistcoat doesn’t detract from the shape of the dress when worn open and it breaks the colour up. I know this is an unpopular word but do you think the overall look could be ‘frumpy’ when worn together with the dress ? I could wear it in winter with my long slightly clumpy black boots

@frillseeking you are so good at this! A waistcoat will be perfect. Thanks very much. I will save down your details, thanks.

@anatara I just wanted to pop on here and mention Uniqlo airism dresses. They’re crease free, very light and can be dressed up or down. I got one for our summer travels where I need to pack light. I’m sure @frillseeking will give you some fab advice but I wanted to pop in with that nugget!

Hi,
I’m going to Wimbledon in July and wondered if you could help me with what to wear please?
Many thanks x

OP If you’re still going, do you have any ideas for shorts for someone who looks awful in shorts. My usual go to is a knee length skirt (fitted from waist to hips then very full skirt) or loose linen trousers, as that seems to work for my hourglass shape, but I would like one decent pair of shorts.

I think I need knee length, as shorter looks awful, and maybe something like a skort or very loose shorts? I’d want to wear them with a linen t shirt or a fitted cotton t shirt, and either Vans or Birkies, as that’s what I have.

Wimbledon/ Henley inspo. Re Wimbledon, I think it's a nice opportunity to wear a white dress as there are so many lovely ones in the shops but obviously you can't wear to a wedding. I also love the summer tailoring co ords. This pale yellow suit from mint velvet would be my choice!

Also for the Farm Rio lovers, H&M have this gorgeous print in if you want to get the look for less

Thank you for replying, that Mint Velvet suit is gorgeous and my kind of style. The trousers are out of stock in my size but I’ll keep checking back. Thanks again!

I'm looking for a suitable dress for Ascot
Ideally to suit my Soft Summer colouring and with Tan shoes/Bag already bought
I'm 5'3 so nothing too long/baggy that drowns me too much

Happy to hire a hat but would really like a beautiful dress with short or 3/4 sleeves
Budget circa £300
Thank You

@CameToASuddenArborealStop knee length shorts are all the rage this season so this is your time to shine!

Primark have these fab linen ones (which come with a matching jacket which is a nice office look.) I love that the belt is stretchy too so very wearable. H&M have these wider fit denim ones which are a nice length as well. Most of the high street shops have them at the moment though so you should be able to find easily. I also spotted some longer length denim shorts in M&S in their magic range. They're a slimmer fit but could be an option. On the skort front, I found this one from Zara

@frillseeking Thanks so much - I hadn’t realised Bermuda was in this year, and that should help a lot. I’ll have a look in Primark this weekend - linen and knee length and loose fit is my dream pair of shorts!

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 31/05/2024 22:37

@frillseeking love thread so much thank you! Any recs for a dvf type wrap that’s not as expensive (they’ve doubled since I bought my last one!) x
