@liveforchocolate I'll have a look for you. I did come across this on Amazon and I have no idea what it would be like in RL but it would definitely fit the bill!

Thank you!... this is indeed lovely and would fit the bill, as would the sequin kimono mentioned by PP, but I'm more thinking that it may well be a scorching day, and I'm looking for something more exciting than a sequin tank top with jeans, although it feels like that is what I'll end up with. I'm not quite sure what I'm hoping for x

frillseeking · 24/05/2024 17:21

@liveforchocolate what about something like this? Slightly different to the bog standard sequin tank/ vest.

@Isabelle70 not at all! Gorgeous dress for summer. If you're worried about it looking too pink, you could dial it down a bit with some tan sandals/ bag

Really like that, thank you. Will have a look and see other colours as that colours makes me look washed out.

really like that pink dress too from Boden for the summer. None left in my size :(

Isabelle70 · 24/05/2024 22:48

@liveforchocolate I am a 14 and had to size up to a 16. They might have it on other sites too, maybe Next?

Isabelle70 · 24/05/2024 22:50

Many thanks @frillseeking I never think of the accessories as it's a try on in the bedroom in front of the mirror normally at the end of the day when I am not looking my best!

frillseeking · 25/05/2024 10:45

@timefornewme2023 I would add interest through your accessories. Depends on your style but I would add a chunky necklace and some gold sandals. Something that also came to me was adding a little embroidered waistcoat as these are very on trend but then that's another new piece 😂 but just some ideas

@Isabelle70 you should try on when you're freshly showered and feeling good. I know it sounds really obvious but you said yourself in your post you're trying on at the end of day when you're not feeling your best so you're not going to put that outfit on and feel good. I'm quite strict with this, especially if I've got dresses/ outfits to try on for an occasion. The temptation is to try things on as soon as they arrive but I set them aside and wait till I'm in the right frame of mind and I've got hair/make up done, it makes such a difference!

@HalfMumHalfBiccit yes please do! I wouldn't order a camel blazer to go with the trousers as this will look too matchy. I'd go for a light coloured blazer for a more tonal look. There are some great sales at the moment. I love this linen mix blazer from Whistles

@HalfMumHalfBiccit I also spotted this great little workwear top earlier this week from phase eight x

Thanks so much for this thread! 2 requests please:

  1. low rise shorts that aren’t super short
  2. a beige or maybe khaki trench / mac maybe slightly a-line - my previous trusty skirted khaki one has given up the ghost. I have a Burberry but don’t want to wear that to the corner shop or to work every day!

size 8, 5ft5 with boobs and hips

thanks :)

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 25/05/2024 13:40

Hi, the Hobbs dress arrived and I think it’s just a bit long for me and bulky with the front pockets. Lovely quality, beautifully made.
I’ve done a pic for you with it on. These shoes would ruin my feet at the conference and probably aren’t smart enough.

second dress is one already in my wardrobe which is also Hobbs but I could wear.

@frillseeking you read my mind. I got this similar top from phase 8. Top I get bored of wearing the same thing so nice to have some alternatives.

I’m afraid the Reiss trousers were thinner and all creased so not as good a quality as I’d hoped for the money. I might pop to M&S today to see if they have a similar wide leg style.

@frillseeking after much dithering I have bought this dress to wear for a June wedding in Scotland. Any thoughts on what kind of wrap or jacket could work with it?

frillseeking · 25/05/2024 21:12

@Aria999 gorgeous dress 💛 I think I'd either go for a traditional stole/ shawl or a blazer draped over the shoulders. Black is going to look too heavy so I'd go for a colour like this one. Zara also have a gold blazer in if you wanted to go the whole hog!

@HalfMumHalfBiccit I really like the Hobbs dress from the photo but you've got to feel good in it. The second dress is lovely too. I'd go for a nude heel something like this

Toast
Hi please can you suggest how I can style this dress. It hangs beautifully so I don’t want to spoil the shape by adding a cardigan/jacket. It’s a beautiful dark olive but it could look drab without the right accessories. Many thanks

@frillseeking an invitation to Henley Regatta has arrived which is exciting as I've never been before. I've googled some images from last year and it's very dressy. I loved the Farm Rio dress but it's no longer available, have you seen any other incredible dresses please? I'm 5'5 size 10 and open to anything Thank you x

redfacebigdisgrace · 26/05/2024 09:27

@frillseeking
this is so generous of you! Are you taking on clients?

One thing I’d love help on is tops to go with skirts, particularly bias satin skirts. I don’t like my stomach (size 10 but with a bit of a sticky out stomach) so I hate tucking in. I need some definition as I have big shoulders and can look a bit rectangular if I don’t wear something that goes in at the waist. Any tips? Thanks 🙏

redfacebigdisgrace · 26/05/2024 09:33

@PeonyBlush10 that’s a beautiful dress. I love Toast. I would wear it with a gold long pendant of some sort. Or maybe a scarf/headband in your hair/poytail?. Or an across body bag to break it up? Not that I have a clue 😂I have a lot of Toast clothes - they are stunning and really different to the rest of the high street.

Thanks for your suggestions. I agree, gold/bronze/Pearl chunky accessories would add warmth. Scarf in hair is a great idea and could be a perfect solution but I have very thin short hair, so I need something else to add a statement or tonal colour contrast. I can’t seem to find the right scarf around shoulders look. I don’t want it too big or too small…..

redfacebigdisgrace · 26/05/2024 10:39

How about a fabric covered headband? That could look really cool if you choose a colour that suits you.
