Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

Still away at the festival till tomorrow so hopefully will have a few outfits to share. Loving everyone’s looks 😍and all the kindness on this thread

Just one picture to be going on with of me about to enter the fairy themed fancy dress with my EBay dress, two people stopped me to say it was lovely

OMG I love it 😁🩷🩷 Hope you win! 😊

Soccermumamir · 23/06/2024 12:36

Well today I am in my favourite clothes- gym gear lol Been to the gym this morning with eldest and now sat in the garden with a coffee in fresh gym gear 😆🫶

Doing a charity walk at work tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to. Yet more gym attire 😊 Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely weather 🌞

Evenstar · 23/06/2024 12:53

@Soccermumamir sadly I didn’t win, but it was such fun sashaying along the front of the crowd and there were some brilliant costumes 🥰

ChishiyaBat · 23/06/2024 13:25

@Evenstar those wings are so pretty, glad you had fun.

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel wow what a bargain you had £7 that's amazing!

@LakeSnake I hope the oil works it usually does, it sounds like there was improper prepping and finishing!

I went storage-bag diving again! Today it's a pink Out of Xile dress I bought YEARS ago. It has princess seams on the bust, perfect length, flows over everything else. I thought I'd got too big for it but no! It looks as nice as it always did!

It has a little crochet/lace panel under the bust, sewn on top though, not see through, and which has sequins on. I'm going to have to snip the sequins off, they always scratched (shout out to the sensory issues fans in the audience tonight).

I love this dress and I'm so happy to wear it again!

Ha! I am someone for whom sequins have been a life saver (well a dress saver! ). I had a beautiful dress from Monsoon which I managed to rip at the front while running up some stairs. I threw it to the back of the wardrobe in disgust. Then a few years later I got it out, looked at it and decided to have a go at stitching it - I am a terrible sewer, and had the bright idea of covering my sewing with sequins - small, delicate ones I just happened to have. Have now worn that dress many times as it's so cool and lovely to wear, and have even used the sequins trick on small holes I had on other garments such as t shirts etc. Even though my sewing is crap, I always kept the little spare packets of sequins, beads and buttons and I'm now glad I did.

Fab costume! I watched some of the festival on tv yesterday and thought everyone looked so cool and really loving it. Sad that I didn't see any fairies - that would have been great.

Excuse the bedroom. We're in the middle of decorating, and everything is everywhere lol This was what I wore today. I longed for my tomboy outfits halfway through the day. Don't know what's wrong with me 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I think you look lovely but it's also important to be yourself.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 23/06/2024 19:29

Lwrenn · 23/06/2024 08:48

I love that dress! The pin up/rockabilly aesthetic is so cool, probably a daft question but how do you wear your hair? Do you do the vintagey styling?

No, I should really but I'm a bit lazy 😂. I try to embrace my natural wave, I'm not so polished.

The headband pic is last night, the other pic is January, but shows the jacket (monsoon from ebay size 18), and the hoody I wore last night (cupcake cult in XXL)

@Evenstar you're my hero. I want to be a 🧚‍♂️. That is just magnificent. Perfection. I have a bit of a fairy obsession. I just love your outfit.

Thank you 🙂 I felt comfortable at first, but as the day went on I longed for a TShirt lol It was very warm on Friday though, and the air con wasn't working properly either, so maybe I was just pining for comfort 😆

Hecatoncheires · 23/06/2024 21:01

@ChishiyaBat @FredsRoses @LakeSnake @Lwrenn @TruthThatsHardAsSteel Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement, it’s really sweet of you to take the time to perk me up. I think some of my ‘missing the mark’ feeling is that I’m not up-to-date and to be perfectly honest I’m not stylish. Some women seem to have the knack of looking naturally fab, regardless of size, but that’s never been me. I’m the one wearing trousers when everyone else is in a skirt and vice versa, or wearing sandals when everyone else is in trainers. And not on purpose! I dunno. It’s hard to articulate. And I worry that I’ve passed it on to my DD, though she has youth and beauty on her side so looks awesome all the time. 😆

ChishiyaBat · 23/06/2024 21:07

@Hecatoncheires it's ok to wear what you want though, it doesn't matter how you look or what everyone else is wearing, it matters how you feel. If you are comfortable then it's all good. No one thinks they are stylish though(i'm deffo not😂) it's about confidience in yourself, just be you.
I get what you say about your daughter though, mine is 23 and she's as bad as me, there's lots of is this ok, what about xyz, I passed that onto her😂.

Hecatoncheires · 23/06/2024 21:29

@ChishiyaBat I feel comfortable enough in what I’m wearing but then uncomfortable in the feeling that I’ve got it wrong! Though thinking specifically about my works do, I was sat across from two women that I know the least well (haven’t been in my job long) so it’s highly likely that was part of it.

Am still loving everyone’s outfits and stories. We definitely need a new thread when this one is full.

Found this thread by accident but it's lovely to see some positivity - I have put alot of weight on over the last year and I am the biggest I have ever been. I feel disgusting, I'm about an 18 but really big boobs, no waist and only 5ft 3in. I feel like I have no shape and just look like a lump. I have a work thing this week (nothing fancy just drinks and networking after work type thing) but I have nothing to wear and everything I try looks awful, I don't suit anything.

If you’ve put on weight recently, I highly recommend you start with new underwear! Get yourself to an independent bra fitter, or Bravissimo. Get the big boobs sitting where they should, makes a massive difference.

I second Sainsburys as a good option to browse, they do a good size range and good clothes. What kind of clothes would you like to wear?

TragicMuse · 24/06/2024 08:12

This morning it's another dress from the weekend storage-bag-dive.

Red, floral, major elastic aged panel in the bodice! It's an old Sainsbury one, I love it and I love wearing it.

I'll probably wear some little pumps with it, they're about to wear through but I've had them for years too, they've more than paid for themselves.

Yesterday I bought a Manners London top from Vinted. I'm really excited to see how it works with my hefty bust. I'm 59 now but I think they're ok, not too droopy yet. But I don't know if I can go braless! Maybe not for work... Smile

HebburnPokemon · 24/06/2024 08:17

TragicMuse Got any photos of the dress?

I'm on a red obsession atm (election related).

Gemi33 · 24/06/2024 09:12

Thank you Lwrenn and GoingDownDown for your kind replies. I have also been someone who wears mainly dresses but I just don't feel like anything suits be anymore. I carry most of my weight on my stomach and have big boobs so I just feel like a barrel and everything looks awful.

That's so kind, thanks! 🤩 I just call it wearing what I want And like haha. A bit eclectic possibly. I've never thought about it

I think my replacement combats are coming today, so excited to have a slouchy outside option.

Welcome 🌹. I'm sure there's someone here to match your shape, the joy of this thread is the pure variation and general loveliness. And the belief in fairies 🧚‍♂️. You definitely will have clothes to suit your shape, it's a matter of finding them.

Folks here are very good at coming up with a few Instagrammers to help so hopefully that's on its way. I don't Instagram so I'm no use!

@TragicMuse i love that you're deep driving into storage clothes. Some gems to be found 🤞

I know the standard advice is normally to wear something that nips in on the waist, but actually I’ve found myself doing the exact opposite sometimes and actually really like it. I have a couple of dresses that are this shape. It’s not going to make you look smaller - that’s ok, we are all the size we are, it doesn’t define us - but just flows over everything.
