Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

All these photos look amazing. I wish I was more girly lol

Today I wore my black maxi skirt and a tie top which was lovely, I got compliments, I felt OK, but as the day went on I wish I'd teamed my skirt with a T Shirt. I'm such a tomboy. It's so hard to feel comfortable in girly clothes. Help! Anyone else feel this way or us it just me? 🤔

Soccermumamir · 21/06/2024 19:47

Excuse the bedroom. We're in the middle of decorating, and everything is everywhere lol This was what I wore today. I longed for my tomboy outfits halfway through the day. Don't know what's wrong with me 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Finally it's warm enough to wear my Manners Asri without a cardigan on top.

I feel so happy wearing this dress. It's the petite length in size XL.

Beautiful love it

Aw love this @wateringcanface 💛💛💛

I will look good at my current weight; I will also look good with a stone or two down, where I am on the weight spectrum does not place how worthy I am to wear nice clothes.

Ughhh I need some support ladies.

Why does this happen to me every time I travel abroad??

I feel okay about my appearance (not great but okay). However whenever I travel to Europe (France, Germany, etc) I feel utterly HIDEOUS. I feel I look like an elephant next to the European women with their natural tans and teeny tiny waists. I find myself body checking every minute and feel so self conscious, to the point where comparisons become obsessive & compulsive. I felt hyper aware of my body and shameful of it. I even started to feel guilty that my husband is married to me and not women like them.

When I arrived back in the UK, within a few hours I felt okay again, borderline pretty.

How can I stop this cycle keep happening whenever I travel? It spoils what should be a really pleasant experience.

Sorry for dampening the thread.

I totally hear you.
But please don't feel this way OP.
It makes no sense!
I bet your husband adores you.
Also wondering if he looks like Jason Momoa himself?
Being skinny is not the highest achievement of a woman's life, after all..,,

You are gorgeous OP. Of this I'm certain. And your friends, family and anyone who really matters knows this.

Besos Chica! 😘

Slay lady! 🙌👗💃🏻💛

Love this!!! What are your tomboy outfits? And why do you feel you need to change what you wear? Please don't. Wear the thing!

I'm autistic, so I use formulas for my clothes. I know a specific dress style suits me, hence owning like 20 hellbunny dresses in the same size. But they're far from girly in my eyes. Most have skulls on, chunky dirty boots, a bit of a scruffy jacket, unruly hair. I am not made to be pristine. 😁

I love trousers but struggle with sensory issues/fitting in the waist. By the time the waist is big enough for comfort, the trousers usually make me look like Mc hammer.....

I'm giving you permission to wear what you want. If you feel good and feel it's flattering, your confidence will show. Just be you 😍😻.

It's not that you will. You do!! 💪

Have you ever looked at someone and thought - they aren't worthy to me, they should definitely loose x. Nah.

Tonight's pep talk sponsored by half a bottle of red. Sorry. 👻🍷

Yes definitely know what you mean - I'm waaaay more comfortable in non-girly clothes! I even took jeans and a top and my stompy boots to a wedding recently and got changed in the evening once the dancing had started 😀

I think I feel more me in non-girly clothes and get noticed less, which suits me just fine! But I do like a swishy skirt from tike to time - will be sticking my hippy swishy skirt on today - just wish it had pockets...!

Do you actually want to dress “girly” or do you just think you should? Because we’re all about wearing what you want to and feeing fabulous in that, not about pushing any particular style! Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone can be part of that, but there’s no need to try things unless you actually want to.

A T-shirt with a maxi skirt sounds cool to me - do you prefer plain, patterned? If you want to change things up a bit could you experiment with bolder colours, band shirts, a cool belt, etc?

Thank you 😊 Your style sounds rocking 🤘
I usually wear jeans with trainers, boots in winter, sandals in the summer. I like girly floaty tops but think I took my outfit yesterday a little too out of my comfort zone. Lesson learnt lol 😆

Thank you. I think because I work in a junior management role everyone around me is so girly. Sometimes I feel too out of place and my head starts telling me that I need to be more like them. It's stupid I know. I like girly tops, I can't get away with dresses unless it's for an occasion such as a wedding. I opt for skirts instead. I love wearing midi and maxi skirts and would pair these usually with a T shirt. Any t shirt. I do love colour, plain, patterned and have band t shirts also. If I was to wear a girly floaty top I would team it with jeans or floaty summer trousers.

Thank you I needed this. I've realised that yesterday pairing a girly top with a maxi skirt is way too far out of my comfort zone. I did it, but felt uncomfortable and that's not how I want to feel 😆
I love that I can come on here and gain clarity and no one judges. I just need to get out of my own head, which is really hard sometimes.

TragicMuse · 22/06/2024 12:05

What's on the slate for today?

I'm wearing some patterned linen trousers from a few years ago. They're a vaguely leafy red, blue and white. I love almost everything about them except NO POCKETS! Which is pretty heinous. Otoh, nothing to interrupt the lines which is, I suppose, a consideration.

This is paired with a linen cami too I made a couple of years ago. I was a bit short on fabric so it's white at the front with an inky blue colour block stripe and the straps and back are also blue.

Red cropped 3/4 sleeve cardi.

Blue sambas.

I'm raring to go!!

bridgetreilly · 22/06/2024 13:46

Today I am rocking mismatched pyjamas and a long cardigan on the sofa and I feel fabulous. In my head I am in a 1930s movie with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.

I've been inspired to start sewing again! I know that there is a much better choice of clothes shops for us big girls to shop in these days, but I still find so much of the stuff drab and uninteresting. Even when you're prepared to pay a lot of money for something, it's just SO bloody hard to find a size that actually FITS!! If I were years younger, I'd be seriously tempted to try and start the sort of shop that I would like to shop in, but age and disability are against me these days. However, having always been able to sew, but mainly doing house stuff like curtains and cushion covers, etc., over recent years, I've decided to have a go at making my own clothes again, and to this end have booked myself on a free online sewing course, to get me started on drafting my own patterns. Who knows, maybe some of you other ladies out there might like to start making their own clothes too?

Just having a tidy up for the charity shop bag and have found four patterns (from Prima magazine, was gifted a subscription as a gift and they just come with the magazine). Dresses/Shirts/ Shorts /Trousers up to size 24.

Happy to post to you if any use.

Sounds lovely and summery 🙂

I've got my floaty black summer trousers on, black strappy top with a light blue denim shirt over the top, unbuttoned. Also got my tan buckled slide on sandals on 😊

I'm at a music festival (not one of the big ones) and I'm wearing shorts and a vest top.

The weather is gorgeous and I've decided that what other people may think of me is not my concern, I'm wearing the shorts.
