Fat girl summer - let's slay 💅

Lwrenn · 15/05/2024 18:56

So, for those of us who are chunky yet funky, what's the plan ladies?

Shall we give no fucks and wear nice comfy summery clothes or do we worry about keeping every inch of us covered head to toe in black until we sweat so hard we melt? What's the plan?

Currently a size 20/22 myself, unlikely to get down to a magical size 14 by July so I'm looking at the nice comfy looking linen pants, few maxi dresses, shorts because I'm a wee chubby pale rebel and to really go wild a jumpsuit or two.

Simply be has some lovely things at the moment including shoes, asos curve is looking alright and vinted is my best pal.

I'm 35 for a few more months and don't want to have another summer in my 30s hating my body, so this year I'm going to embrace it. Anyone with me?

I have been inspired to buy a couple of shorter dresses than I normally wear - just floaty summer ones from Asda and Tesco. In pictures they look much further above the knee than they are on my short frame!

Oooh nice colours and I love the sleeves!

Cluelessaf · 22/06/2024 17:34

Thank you! It's about 3 inches longer on me and I've some cropped leggings on too. But it's very vibrant and I try to avoid standing out, usually!

Lwrenn · 22/06/2024 17:34

We're still slaying and going strong ladies!

So I tried waxing today and got all overwhelmed with wax strips etc, had one stuck to an arse cheek, managed to remove a strip of arm hair, no idea how and my legs are so patchy I look like I've tried shaving with a pencil sharpener 🙈😂

That aside, it wasn't too bad!

Youre all looking gorgeous on the pics, glad our @ChishiyaBat had a brilliant time seeing greenday!

ChishiyaBat · 22/06/2024 17:49

Haha oh dear @Lwrenn how did you manage that? I love waxing people, but could never manage it on myself, couldn't pull the skin taut enough. Tip for next time use some talc or body powder on the areas you want to wax before you use the strips that helps the hair adhere better to the wax strips.

Thank you, i'm a bit(very) annoyed at the layout of the arena&2 tier pricing of tickets, so if you didn't pay extra you couldn't see fuck all, but I won't rant and bring the wonderful vibe here down. Green Day were excellent though(as usual)💚.

Also we are going to need a new thread soon, it's been such a lovely thread❤️.

Oh, I love that. It’s gorgeous!

Hecatoncheires · 22/06/2024 21:11

I had a works leaving do yesterday and wore some red and white ultra-wide leg trousers (so wide they look like a skirt) and a black top. I felt quite nice till I got to the restaurant and felt like I’d got it wrong. Seemed to be patterned tops and plain bottoms everywhere I looked. I often feel like I just miss the mark. Anyone know what I mean? Makes me want to crawl back to my usual dreary togs.

No don't feel like that, I wear what I want I don't care about current trends, your outfit sounds lush and if YOU were happy with it and it made YOU feel good that is all that matters!

FredsRoses · 22/06/2024 21:20

Please don't do that 'Hecatoncheires', I'm sure you looked wonderful! We big girls stand out anyway, so lets be out there and proud of ourselves, rather than dressing like the sheep!

Once, when I was a lot younger and skinnier, I had a real thing for hats, and decided to wear one to a concert/dinner, everyone was looking at me, and like you, I was beginning to feel I'd got it wrong, but then lo and behold, the lead singer of a VERY famous group, walked out onto the stage, wearing a hat as close as could be to the one I was wearing. I could feel people looking at me again, and like to think that they were thinking to themselves 'She must know the lead singer'. After that, I figured sod them all, I'll wear what I want, and I still do, even though I'm a LOT bigger than I was then!

Why would you want to be/get dressed like everyone else though?

You are you.
You have your style, which is personal to you.
And that’s amazing!! Because there is no way that the same style will for everyone

Im sure you looked amazing. With clothes that you were comfortable in. Don’t let anyone else try and convince otherwise.

LakeSnake · 22/06/2024 21:48

@Lwrenn i went for some waxing too. New lady I hadn’t tried before.

Im still fighting with bits of wax she left, in areas where there was no hair to remove (like between toes!).
And because I have mobility issues, I can’t quite reach these areas and scrub 😢😢
Im going to have to wait until it goes away I think

(and no I’m not going back!)

ChishiyaBat · 22/06/2024 22:00

Can you rub oil onto the wax @LakeSnake it should dissolve it easily without needing to scrub.

But your outfit sounds so lovely! And I'm not just saying this but I'm definitely someone who would prefer the plain top and busier bottoms, I have a few pairs of the wider leg patterned pants. I find busy tops drown me out a bit.

We all need to dress in what we feel comfortable in. You've left feeling good and then doubt have crept in here because you're not wearing the same stuff as your pals, but you can't let that doubt ruin your lovely outfit and confidence.

I have crazy curly hair and when I was little i was desperately wanting straight hair, my wee nanny told me that we always want the opposite and so many girls over the years have said they'd love my hair, all with straight swishy hair. Nanny knew what's up, we all like to feel we fit and doing that to ourselves we definitely don't give our differences the love we'd give them on others.

You didn't miss the mark, you did look beautiful, you just did things different and that's great, what makes us all unique!

ChishiyaBat · 23/06/2024 00:26

Well said @Lwrenn !
Ooh I am another one who would have loved your curly hair mine is poker straight, fine and wispy, that's why it dreaded so easily, but I would have loved curls❤️. We should all celebrate what makes us US we are all beautiful, it's only society that tells us we are not, we are not lesser, We deserve to feel good about ourselves❤️!

It was awesome, they were fantastic as always, it was so amazing to hear dookie&american idiot in their entirety! I actually felt good yesterday, my slin and makeup looked amazing(even if I do say so myself😂) and I chose the right outfit I think.

Wow am loving your outfit!!! Perfect.

Also - someone posted a twinkle toes pic at the beach... Love the print on those trousers 😍

Totally know what you mean, but it's much cooler to miss the mark and just be you. Why would you want to look like everyone else? I mean that so kindly. I personally think own clothes are so much cooler than wearing what you think you should. I bet you looked amazing. I need to see at least a link to these trousers please, they sound amazing!!

7quid vinted hellbunny dress. Boots are a covid but from depop, I lusted after them for a long time ever since my friend wore them to our wedding

@Lwrenn oh your poor thing with the waxing 🤭 ❤️

@Cluelessaf love the lollipop dress. Great colours

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel waxing update - I managed to misplace one single strip when pulling it apart.
Mr lrwen ended up finding it, by stepping on it barefoot.
Mr lwren was not impressed.

My Waxing journey has come to a swift end and I'm returning to my trusty throw away Razors 😂

I love that dress! The pin up/rockabilly aesthetic is so cool, probably a daft question but how do you wear your hair? Do you do the vintagey styling?

Found this thread by accident but it's lovely to see some positivity - I have put alot of weight on over the last year and I am the biggest I have ever been. I feel disgusting, I'm about an 18 but really big boobs, no waist and only 5ft 3in. I feel like I have no shape and just look like a lump. I have a work thing this week (nothing fancy just drinks and networking after work type thing) but I have nothing to wear and everything I try looks awful, I don't suit anything.

Youre taller than I am but I am not heavy of nork as is the catchphrase here, I instead am B belly, so I get the feeling a weird shape to dress.

Do you have anything you enjoy wearing in?
If not, you're only an 18, if you can afford it get to sainsburys, they've 25% off and loads of things that would definitely balance out your blessed of nork shape.

Also, if you're feeling a bit meh in general have a wee Google for a free site that shows you what colours you suit and add some of that colour, even a painted nail or something, you'll feel a bit fancier.

I hope you enjoy your evening 😊

I went storage-bag diving again! Today it's a pink Out of Xile dress I bought YEARS ago. It has princess seams on the bust, perfect length, flows over everything else. I thought I'd got too big for it but no! It looks as nice as it always did!

It has a little crochet/lace panel under the bust, sewn on top though, not see through, and which has sequins on. I'm going to have to snip the sequins off, they always scratched (shout out to the sensory issues fans in the audience tonight).

I love this dress and I'm so happy to wear it again!
