Please help me find a wow dress for a destination wedding

I am going to a wedding In Cyprus in June and looking for some suggestions on a dress. I have over the past 8 months lost 6 stone and hoping to lose another stone by the time the wedding comes around. I'm looking for a wow dress! There will be people there that I haven't seen since the weight loss and I want to make a great impression.
I'm open to all suggestions, however I need to have sleeves to cover the top of my arms. I don't want to wear any cover up so would definitely need a dress with sleeves.
Budget around £100. Cant be yellow as this is the bridesmaids colour. I'm not keen on all the floral prints that are around at the moment. Would like it slightly fitted on the top as I am a pear shape with a small waist and wider hips. Blonde hair and in my early 40s.
Thanks

Gulp - I like that Adrianna Papell dress and don't think it's frumpy, more understated, but life would be boring if we all liked the same things!

I don't understand why a pp said rayon would be uncomfortable to wear in the heat as that's not my experience.

I am tempted by this one on Lavish Alice. However I am unsure if the material will be suitable?

Nice dress but I would need in mind that Cyprus in June is likely to be hot so you may feel more comfortable in something a bit looser and a lighter material .

Think the poster just wanted to have a go. 😄

Seriously ? If we are insulting other people's fashion choices then I would say that the dress you've linked to is the definition of frumpy. And who wants to wear high necked polyester in the heat?

Agree - very ordinary, plain and uninspiring and definitely not what the OP is looking for!

@Bignanna without wanting to offend I'm surprised it ever gets suggested, it looks like stuff you'd see hanging on rail on a market stall. I'm fiftyish and I don't know anyone my age or even my mum's age that dresses like that never mind anyone that's 30!

Horses for courses though, but that website is giving me static shocks from here! Its got major BHS vibes, and that was never known for it's style credentials but if you're after function over form maybe it's handy for basics? Who knows.

While I appreciate some on here hate dresses by Roman, why is it that they then go on to suggest the most unattractive and unsuitable styles for the OP?
I quite like this for a wedding in a hot country!but no doubt others wouldn’t!

How are they any better than the ones from Roman, which some on here moan about? They’re really ordinary!

This looks like polyester, which speaking from experience, you don't want to wear in the heat. I'd filter by cotton or linen when searching.

I know it’s a bit over budget and sleeveless, but I’ve just bought this dress from Me & Em and it’s just gorgeous on.

You wouldn’t find much that is suitable, then, plus it would cease horribly. Polyester is ‘ breathable’ these days, particularly the mesh. It’s often mixed with viscose or cotton for comfort. Another poster on here said she wore polyester as a guest at a wedding in a hot country and was fine, and this dress is very light anyway. Polyester is used in the majority of occasion dresses, and it’s fine.

I wouldn’t wear them either.

You seem very protective over Roman, if you like it you like it, it’s OK that other people don’t. I like tattoos, some of the comments about them are hilarious in how judgemental they are. But that’s ok, they’re allowed to have those opinions even if they’re wrong

I buy clothes from many different places, including Roman. They don’t seem cheap or poorly made, and there is a good choice for all occasions. It just annoys me that some on here rubbish Roman in a way that I find snobbish and pretentious.

Good choices for you. I’d feel like my mum or nan wearing them. You probably wouldn’t wear what I wear and would think I look scruffy or like I can’t be bothered, or maybe like some sort of weirdo. That’s ok, I like it.

I admit I get a bit defensive when people label them as being good for my age group because I think I’m 50 not a Mormon!

canyouletthedogoutplease · 24/04/2024 15:47

I hadn't ever looked at Roman and had only ever heard of it on here. I just looked and can see why it's divisive! Who's designing that, and who for?!

Their stuff looks like Bon Marche and says 'please just make me invisible on holiday'.

NonPlayerCharacter · 24/04/2024 20:53

Bon Marche is hugely successful, even at a time when the high street is struggling. Sometimes success comes not from trying to be cool.and statement-y, but seeing a market and appealing to it. There's a demand for ordinary, sensible, everyday stuff...it might not be the only kind of thing you wear, but most people have a few basic essential pieces that aren't inherently hugely stylish, nor intended to be.

IamII · 24/04/2024 21:20

Sure @NonPlayerCharacter but this thread is about a wow dress for a wedding!

Although the Op has posted dresses she likes so we can see what she means by wow.
Not so much the dress itself but that it's a dress to show off her new body size.

The examples given on for a wedding guest outfit here aren’t great and certainly not wow!

akindredspirit · 24/04/2024 22:06

My son was married in Turkey, on the beach. It was fabuIous but very hot. I recommend something thin and floaty to keep cool and fresh. I would be wary of something very fitted or figure hugging especially in a plain colour. (One of our party had dark circles under her arms and lines down her back from 'perspiration' showing on the material.) I know you want to make a statement, but you need to feel good too.

There’s something for everyone. They are not like those in Bon Marche either. Roman dresses often appear on the Next, Coast and Debenhams wedding guest collections. What some have shown on here as ‘wow’ dresses really aren’t!

maz82 · 24/04/2024 22:44

Thank you for all of your suggestions. There aren't any yet that I absolutely love. I think pp is right in thinking I wanted to show off my new figure so wasn't really thinking about material. The dresses I've been liking have been quite fitting and think I need to listen to some reccomendations on here and look for something a bit more floaty and light.

This one is lovely and would get my vote.
