Please help me find a wow dress for a destination wedding

I am going to a wedding In Cyprus in June and looking for some suggestions on a dress. I have over the past 8 months lost 6 stone and hoping to lose another stone by the time the wedding comes around. I'm looking for a wow dress! There will be people there that I haven't seen since the weight loss and I want to make a great impression.
I'm open to all suggestions, however I need to have sleeves to cover the top of my arms. I don't want to wear any cover up so would definitely need a dress with sleeves.
Budget around £100. Cant be yellow as this is the bridesmaids colour. I'm not keen on all the floral prints that are around at the moment. Would like it slightly fitted on the top as I am a pear shape with a small waist and wider hips. Blonde hair and in my early 40s.
Thanks

I don't think that's the kind of dress you wear because it's flattering. It's the kind of dress you wear to draw attention to the dress, like art. In essence, the dress is wearing you.

Nice work if you can get it; people who can get away with dressing like that are the ones who don't need to worry about "flattering" because nothing will make their hips look wide or their stomach look fat or whatever. I'm not one of those people, sadly.

To be fair though you could be the size of a small house in that dress and no one would know…

Marchintospring · 18/04/2024 17:08

Most if there stuff ups black/ grey and neutrals although they do a lovely blue strappy blue puffball too. 😉

Marchintospring · 18/04/2024 17:42

I'm a C cup. The bust measurements are tailored for each dress so use a tape measure and their guide. Mine fits exactly how it should.

Also I bought it from the U.S. site (maybe the link?). They also sell them on an EU site and through Wolf and Badger. You get a 15% discount if you go direct. Saved £60 than on W&B.

Have a look on Vinted for a bombshell dress....I got one for £30...it's beautiful and very flattering.

Someone got out of bed the wrong side this morning

Take a chill pill

Its been stated on these boards more then enough that Roman clothes are made for the more mature woman in mind, more material, better cuts, sleeves etc, the stuff I want when buying a dress for an occasion without breaking the bank

Some people look to get offended for sure

I’m 41 this year and I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than be labelled a “more mature woman”. JFC.

But that's exactly the criteria I use for choosing dresses- to draw attention to the dress.

I'm 5'4"/5"- size 14 on a good day, 16 on a bad day. I don't worry about "flattering" because it's just not important. It's the dress, which is the thing- like that red dress.

I’m the opposite, I prefer to wear my clothes than they wear me,

That's your prerogative. I don't think I could pull it off and I prefer to wear my clothes - I want their job to be to work for me. I don't want to wear stuff that I don't look good in.

Hi op, having gone to a hot island wedding last year I'd be very careful with fabric choice and colour, as sweat patches are a big thing.
I'd suggest opting for either a floaty fabric or if it's tight, a pattern as block colours in clinging fabrics will show off a sweaty back beautifully 😂

Agree, try to stay away from anything polyester. Look at pure cotton, linen, broderie anlglaise style dresses - you will be glad you did!

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 18/04/2024 20:40

Each to their own but I've worn polyester dresses to multiple overseas weddings (including hot beach island weddings) and never had an issue with sweat 🤷‍♀️

Free people do the boho beach wedding look better than most - lots of floaty dresses with sleeves on offer e.g.

I came to say exactly the same thing, you can't go wrong with Free People especially for a hot weather beach wedding. I am sure you'll be able to find something gorgeous there https://www.freepeople.com/uk/maxi-dresses/

PrimalLass · 18/04/2024 21:46

Boden has some nice dresses in natural fabrics. Not all wacky colours and patterns.

PrimalLass · 18/04/2024 21:48

@Howmanyroses I'd like so many things from there. I'm a sucker for blue and white anything and there's loads that I'd buy if I had a different life!

Trying81 · 18/04/2024 22:16

I imagine this style as a wow dress for a destination wedding

LookItsMeAgain · 19/04/2024 09:44

All of those sleeveless dresses that you've discounted because they don't have sleeves - would something like this over them (not a shawl or pashmina) work?

It would be a lot easier to find a wow dress for a hot Cyprus that doesn't have sleeves if we knew that you could wear something like the above over it.

What do you think?

Have a look at Girl in Mind, I shop in shops similar to you and they have loads of really nice dresses, variety of styles, lots of wrap ones too which are fitted at the top and have floaty sleeves

notacooldad · 19/04/2024 09:51

They are for 40+

Absolutemasterclassin making me furious before the day has properly begun.
I had no bloody idea there were age labels on grown women’s clothes.

Well you wouldn't see many teenagers wearing Roman. 🤷‍♀️

theDudesmummy · 19/04/2024 10:58

Joe Brown has nice midi dresses, some with short sleeves. I wore one recently to a graduation and it looked good.

Ruthdpl · 19/04/2024 19:34

Reiss have some lovely dresses on the Next site
