No sadly not - don't like summer clothes to be honest! Prefer my nice jumpers! Don’t like showing my arms or legs!

Needathickskin · 14/04/2024 07:00

These are all lovely summery ideas….but I’m freezing! Keep looking longingly at my jumpers

Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy.

Loose cotton or linen trousers instead of jeans and loose cotton long sleeved tops instead of jumpers. Or a maxi dress with a loose long sleeved shirt over.

It's silly to make yourself uncomfortable.

Why not ask for suggestions on here for summer clothes that you would feel comfortable wearing?

I prefer summer clothes TBH. I'm fed up with wearing jeans and jumpers now. I'm ready for a change.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 14/04/2024 07:25

I'm ok for summer clothes, but need some non-work things for when jeans, boots and a jumper is too hot, but one of my (many) summer dresses isn't warm enough! Yesterday's weather here, basically. Never seem to have the right combination of top, bottom, shoes and light jacket (if needed).

What I'd like is some flat fronted side zip ankle grazer trousers (my last pair gave up the ghost last year). Can't find any anywhere. I don't like wearing jeans once it's a bit warmer.

I'm going to shopping to actual shops tomorrow - not sure how well that's going to go!

RampantIvy · 14/04/2024 07:40

I have the M and S combat trousers that someone posted upthread earlier. They were perfect for last year's cool summer when it wasn't warm enough for dresses. I also have some wide leg linen trousers.

I bought a polka dot dress from M&S early on, anticipating it would be sold out and it is. This last week (already delivered), I purchased two identical jackets, in a khaki green and a pink linen mix material, oversized, from H&M and will be keeping both (nice texture, cut and weight to the material, plus flattering), and having tried them on with a variety of my existing summer clothing, and they meet my rule of being able to be worn with more than one item I already have, they can stay! https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1217240005.html?hier_id=go_cmp-12828082235_adg-121943360536_ad-517954073489_pla-872315509673_dev-c_ext-_prd-en-1217240003004_sig-EAIaIQobChMI_Lr9g4y9hQMVypRQBh0kYQjPEAQYASABEgJngfD_BwE&utm_source=Google&gad_source=1

I love those blazers ! Did you size up ?

Lentilweaver · 14/04/2024 07:51

I have the problem of dressing for the Tube which is terribly packed these days. Nearly boiled to death yesterday.

mrschocolatte · 14/04/2024 07:54

@liveforchocolate Thank you and I told myself exactly that when I bought it! I am really looking forward to wearing it when the weather improves a little.

Janetime · 14/04/2024 07:58

I just ordered this skirt from Zara. Bit worried about the sizing, as they are all over the place. But reckon it will work with a long sleeve t on cooler days and with a sleeveless top on warmer ones.

I've lost 35lbs since November and will have lost at least another 10 by summer, taking me to my goal weight. I'm going to have a huge wardrobe purge tomorrow and get rid of all the ugly clothes I hate, that I only bought to hide my body in. I'm going to need a big summer shopping spree. I want linen trousers, pretty vests, shorts and comfortable midi skirts.

RampantIvy · 14/04/2024 08:42

Well done @AhBiscuits

Pigtailsandall · 14/04/2024 09:00

Thanks @Jeezitneverends but I should have said - m&s is a no-go for me. Everything I've bought in the last 5 or so years has been horrendous quality. I actually got a pair of leather gold sandals last spring, and by August they had a distinct crack in the middle where your foot bends. And they weren't particularly cheap!

Jeezitneverends · 14/04/2024 09:07

Well done @AhBiscuits =having had life changing weightloss, it’s a fabulous feeling isn’t it!

I think you have been unlucky. I get lots of stuff from there and have only had one purchase that went wrong - a pair of trousers that shrank drastically in length.

Possibly, but it's happened SO many times now and each time I've excused them thinking that i was unlucky, and then it's happened again. So it's easier if I just don't even look there. The shoes were a particularly bad, but this also includes a pack of socks that developed toe and heel holes within 6-8 months; hoodie for DH where the sleeves shrank significantly after the first wash (I did take that one back) and pyjamas for dc which lost colour and looked really really worn and rubbish after about 6 months, despite being washed in 40 degrees. So for me, that's too many misses.

thebear1 · 14/04/2024 09:36

I have winter clothes and summer clothes but lack in-between clothes. Things I can wear when it's cool but not cold. I don't know where to start.

henlake7 · 14/04/2024 10:12

Ive bought some stuff like t shirts, vests and some thin cargo pants.
Im honestly not much of a summer 'dress up' person....I hate the heat and usually mooch around in the comfiest casual items I own.

NeedWineNow · 14/04/2024 10:56

I usually live in a dress/Converse combo during the summer and have had some good charity shop bargains to add to my existing wardrobe so I’m fairly well sorted on that score. I do need a couple of new bras and have got a fitting booked at John Lewis next week so will see how I go after that.

i did order this dress from River Island. I’ve got the same style from a different brand in blue which I bought last year and it’s so comfortable. Depending on fit and fabric it’ll be great for the summer and particularly in Greece when we go away.

Anyone started shopping for summer yet?
Lentilweaver · 14/04/2024 11:09

Just put away all my winter clothes and I think I have enough summer stuff from last year actually. May buy a couple of chinos but that's it.

I bought two t shirts in there that lasted a couple of months before falling apart/developing holes. I don't bother with M&S now, either. I have a Primark t shirt that's 8 years old! I look after my clothes. Also, their sizing is odd and doesn't work for me.

Yes, me too. You said it better and more succinctly than me 😂

This is my problem.....I have literally nothing from last year, or the last 15 yrs!
Losing 6st is awesome but I cant afford a whole new 'posh' wardrobe. Am mainly shopping in Primark, Poundland and any online sale item that are under a tenner!!LOL😄

IFHTTBIC · 14/04/2024 14:13

Better waterproofs.

We moved to north west England in 2022 and I swear it has not stopped raining since.

I’m currently 29w pregnant but don’t want to waste too much money on maternity clothes. Still have about 5 weeks left at work & another month beyond that so I need some cooler bits to wear.

Thanks to @anon2022anon I just headed to Next & bought these in a bigger size to my normal size in both black & natural

https://www.next.co.uk/g80497s3/988020#988020

They feel super comfy & wide leg (but not comically wide)

Then these tops to go with them:

https://www.next.co.uk/g73140s2/n64652#n64652

As it’s still a bit chilly I also bought this lightweight denim jacket. I really liked the colour & I think I can wear it inside too.

https://www.next.co.uk/g29231s2/n31335#n31335

I bought some sand colour suede clogs at the weekend which seem quite comfy too.

I’ll have a look at last summer’s linen shirts. They won’t do up now but might be ok as cover ups if I wear a vest top.

I have two long maternity denim skirts in med blue & black so I’m hoping this will all see me through.

Yes! I started buying spring/summer stuff early March as I was shopping for the weather I wanted not what was actually happening!
Bought a blue/beige tie dye ish print dress from M&S, a bright green T in white stuff, some golden brown/tan (hard to describe colour!) wide leg cropped trousers from Boden and a maxi skirt too along the way.
Oh, and a black and white loose fit linen top in M&S.
I have been reading the sandals thread and fancy some Hoff sandals, and another pair of Tevas.
I have not got my summer clothes out of storage yet though and now feel like I should have done that before going gung ho with the shopping.

What I do need, and can't find, are nice mid thigh length shorts. Not linen, not denim - I need them to be able to be quick to wash and dry while camping without the need to iron. To look good for wandering around towns/tourist sites but also suitable for walking. Seems I want the impossible!
