There’s a sharp frost in my garden this morning. So much for the new summer dress and ecru blazer I hoped to wear to work this morning. I’m back in a black polo neck and knee boots!

😒 same. I went out for dinner last night ans had to wear jumpsuit and boots instead of a spring dress. Sad times

https://www.monki.com/en_gbp/clothing/trousers-shorts/trousers/product.relaxed-fit-linen-blend-trousers-blue.1218264006.html

I ordered these stripy pyjama type trews today - I imagine them with a white tee and my taupe Birkenstock Boston clogs looking all Scandi chic, but may just look like I am in my bed-wear.

There are a lot of very pyjama-like outfits this year.

Mainly linen co-ords in a variety of colours (and stripes).

Quite appealing (and forgiving) but I do wonder how long it would take before someone asked if I was wearing pyjamas…

Saurus72 It hasn’t arrived yet but I will let you know. I’m a large 12 or small 14 and ordered a 12.

Thanks for this, this dress isn’t in my local store so any sizing info v helpful!

I like the relaxed linen trouser look, but not sure as an untidy apple shaped 50 year old it would just look more untidy than casually relaxed. I also don't iron so to be honest think linen is not my friend.
My thin strap tangerine Tevas arrived today, love themhttps://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/women-sandals/original-universal-slim/196565935960.html
Also got an orange plain t-shirt in M&S and this broderie top which I'm hoping will be a "smarter than a t-shirt" top for work, lunches out etchttps://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-broderie-puff-sleeve-blouse/p/clp60644972?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share
I am definitely on a "bright colours" theme for this summer. Just need some sun now!

I like those but imagine they are rather long - given how they look on the 5'10" model.

@Jumbojem Love that M and S top in both cranberry and white.

I know but she has them right down on her hips so I think if you wear them higher they will be okay? I’m 5ft 6. If not (and I like them overall) the wee guy up the road will do them for a tenner.

Pigtailsandall · 24/04/2024 10:54

Right. So reading this thread I started listing all the lovely things I WANT and love the look of, but then I did the sensible thing and went to the loft to look at my summer clothes to audit what I have. I actually have more shorts than I thought, so the sweatshorts I had ordered got sent back, even though they were only a tenner. The fit wasn't perfect either, so it's something I'll keep an eye out in case I find the perfect pair.

Most of my trousers look a bit shabby. I thought I had loads, but most of them actually need replacing. I went for a look around the shops yesterday, and was v disappointed in the black and white monochrome at the local H&M store. They did have some nice simple linen trousers in white, navy and black and a few in more beigey colours, but they were a bit thin and see-through. I have a pair of navy ones from them from years ago but they are on their last legs. But I guess at that price point (£17-27) you can't expect the world.
Arket had some nice things, but lots of colours that didn't suit me.

&other stories - too much fluff and puff and tiers. I despaired and left quickly

I tried on about a million pairs of jeans, and I think what I'd like is loose-fitting, wide-leg, sort of slouchy light blue pair for the summer. All my jeans are mid to dark blue or black, and I'd like a light pair for the spring, preferably mid-rise. Just slightly overwhelmed with options.

I tried on the black White Stuff dress I linked up thread, and it's lovely - very flattering on an hourglass size 14. The £79 seems a bit high but I haven't found anything else I love so far. I just wonder if I should branch out to a brighter/lighter colour.

The only thing I did buy was a pair of VERY wide leg black cotton trousers from COS. Just checked and they don't seem to be on the website which is odd. Black yet again, but they are to replace a worn-out pair of Baukjen trousers I've had for years. The jersey on them is quite stretched out and the fabric looks a bit pilly and faded. The COS trousers were incredibly light and I think they'll be great even on hot days

The only other thing I am contemplating on getting is a playsuit/romper (as much as I hate the word) for hot days at home. Some of them can be pretty cute, but as I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of it, I'm wondering about looking somewhere cheap like New Look for one, or even Vinted. If I end up wearing it lots, I can look at buying a nicer one at the end of summer sales for next year.

anon2022anon · 24/04/2024 11:28

@Pigtailsandall very sensible of you! And I'd like to see the link to those trousers when they appear on the cos site?

Just to say that new look has very much downgraded fabrics while upping prices, so I would personally avoid there. I've just bought this from h&M, and while it's definitely cheap material, it's the same quality as what new look are offering and about half the price of there. It's long legged, but feels cool, and I've bought it as my summer/ dossing in the house and garden but okay to do errands in outfit. Generous sizing, a medium is fine for me on a pear 14/ small 16 bum. Not seen through

Pigtailsandall · 24/04/2024 12:40

@anon2022anon thanks, I like that jumpsuit thingy definitely, but I want something short so my legs get sun in the garden! So ideally looking for something with short legs and sleeveless but not strappy.

I don't know why those COS trousers are not online. They are quite stiff cotton which gives them a bit of structure, but thin enough that they would be breezy in the summer (I hope)
