I had a little splurge in Margaret Howell today to reward myself for getting through a tough medical procedure this week. I bought:

khaki sleeveless cotton dress
lightweight wool sleeveless top
khaki hooded trench coat
chunky leather sandals

Also, separately, ordered a green Ganni cropped buttoned cardigan from Outnet which arrived today and is incredibly flattering (but more of a spring piece as too warm for summer).

CommeIlFaut · 12/04/2024 17:20

After about five years in the wilderness, I’ve found a few nice things in Boden this year.

Bought these dresses, which are both very flattering, although I’m still not sure what shoes to wear them with.https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/panelled-bodice-midi-dress-fiesta-and-orchid-pink/sty-d0882-pnt

Summer, what’s that?

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 12/04/2024 17:28

I bought a polka dot dress from M&S early on, anticipating it would be sold out and it is. This last week (already delivered), I purchased two identical jackets, in a khaki green and a pink linen mix material, oversized, from H&M and will be keeping both (nice texture, cut and weight to the material, plus flattering), and having tried them on with a variety of my existing summer clothing, and they meet my rule of being able to be worn with more than one item I already have, they can stay! https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1217240005.html?hier_id=go_cmp-12828082235_adg-121943360536_ad-517954073489_pla-872315509673_dev-c_ext-_prd-en-1217240003004_sig-EAIaIQobChMI_Lr9g4y9hQMVypRQBh0kYQjPEAQYASABEgJngfD_BwE&utm_source=Google&gad_source=1

Love that M and S dress except for the tiers. Why is everything tiered?

@Lentilweaver @Hannahbanannas everything is tiered because it’s cheaper to produce from narrower pieces of fabric, and also allows them to flex the pattern and item length with trends or different versions, without having to go back to redoing the pattern, pattern blocks and so on. A one piece skirt in different shaped and lengths would require that work.

Lovemusic82 · 12/04/2024 17:59

I have so much clothing that I don’t think I can consider buying any more, though I would like a short jumpsuit 🤔. I’m just here to see what others are buying.

Andnowshesatoddler · 12/04/2024 18:04

I'm mentally shopping more than actual shopping, I'm on a huge weight loss mission so don't want to get the wrong size but I am going to need some things for a special holiday soon so I am preparing that by researching so I can just pull the trigger at the right time.

Blarn · 12/04/2024 18:12

I need a lightweight jacket and a new pair of sandals. I bought a pair of leather Asos fisherman-type sandals four years ago. They have been in the sea several times, walked miles in them and cost £30. I can't believe they have lasted this long and still look good! I am almost tempted to buy the same ones again.

Other than that, I will pick up a couple of plain tshirts and maybe an a line button-down midi skirt as they are just really useful.

TheGirlattheBack · 12/04/2024 12:09

I’ve bought some new ankle grazers in pale blue denim and I’m currently deciding whether I can splurge on this dress. Why are all the nice dresses sooooo expensive now?!

Oooh I like this! Can't justify spending that much, so please get it and let me live vicariously 😂

Fascinating! Thank you.

Whatwouldnanado · 12/04/2024 21:10

Blue and cream polka dot skirt and a short sleeved dress from Nobody’s Child at M&S for work. Also a blue wrap dress from M&S. I’m a petite 10 so pleased to find stuff without poofy sleeves high necks and big patterns.
Also got light khaki jeans from Monsoon in the sale.
It’s the most I have spent on clothes for ages but I know they’re classics and will last ages.
I could do with a new cream go with everything type cardigan.

CrushingOnRubies · 12/04/2024 22:57

Im not too bad for summer clothes. Went on a big trip to a hot country last year so brought quite a bit for that.

But I am after a pair of leather sandals this year

Chickoletta · 12/04/2024 23:00

I’ve picked up a dress and a maxi-skirt on Vinted. Really pleased with them. Need a new pair of white jeans as mine are a bit tired and I live in these all summer.

I love Vinted - sell all of our old stuff and replace with exciting new things.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/04/2024 23:08

I’m in NE Scotland so summer isn’t much of a thing, and spring feels like a long way off still! My purchases have been more “transitional/can be worn any time”:

Lucy and Yak leopard print jeans
White Adidas Samba trainers
Graphic tee by a brand I saw on Instagram - Too Young For Sushi
Black “satin” slip skirt from New Look
Anine Bing sweatshirt via Vinted
Greige Birkenstock Boston clogs to add to my collection - these were a present for my birthday from my DP

CinnamonJellyBeans · 12/04/2024 23:18

@TheGirlattheBack That Casilda dress is just gorgeous.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/04/2024 23:20

I've bought a couple of plain cotton v neck t shirt dresses from next - only £10 each . Just for wearing on holiday or in the garden . I imagine they will shrink a bit but I'm only 5'3" and they come to my knees so don't mind losing an inch or two.

Also bought some more linen shorts - also from Next .

Discorisco · 12/04/2024 23:39

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME
Thank you for this. I've ordered the h&m jacket and matching trousers as I have a few smart work events in the summer and this will be perfect.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 13/04/2024 02:16

Been looking for a blue/white summer dress with good coverage for ages, ordered this and its lovely and comfy, but extremely crumpled which put me off. Might still keep.
Blue floral belted midi shirt dress | River Island

Also ordered this for a garden party type event, there's something lovely about it but fits very big and sort of swamped me. Returned.

I forgot about my Zara shopping trip last week! I’m on Scotland so there’s always the need for a cover up in the summer 🙄I got this Chanel inspired cardigan, smarter than a hoody, but not as formal as a jacket
https://www.zara.com/uk/en/knit-cardigan-with-golden-buttons-p06427124.html?v1=342171645&v2=2352849

I also got this linen shirt, just a basic all rounder
https://www.zara.com/uk/en/100-linen-basic-shirt-p08372097.html?v1=364330826&v2=2352882

I find Zara one of those shops where you either see absolutely nothing or you want to buy the entire shop-no in between….this was a “buy the entire shop”day😂

Jeezitneverends · 13/04/2024 06:35

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 I LOVE that blue/white dress, I’ve been looking for a blue shirt dress for a while, and could be tempted by that!
